Review from Sarah A.
Blue Chip is student-run, and maybe that's why the coffee and cookies here are so amazing (let's be honest, who appreciates a caffeine-sugar addiction better than a sleep-deprived student?). Service here is fast and friendly. They have a ton of freshly baked goodies to try every day (hint - bring a selection of their cookies with you to a party and everyone will want to be your friend). They also have gluten-free and vegan options (that actually taste GOOD), which is oh-so convenient.
The Marbelous cookie is my favourite - never get sick of it. -
Review from Purdy J.
5 stars for their delicious, fair trade coffee. Bring your own mug to Help the environment and save yourself a few coins.
5 stars for their wide selection of delicious, soft and buttery cookies that are made fresh every day.... Some of my favorites include the chunky (chocolate chunks), smarties, vegan!! (with pumpkins seeds and a hint if cinnamon) And the marbelous (large white chocolate... YEs, Marc D is correct, it is just too sweet). The vegan option is great as the others are filled with buttery goodness.
3 stars because the cookies are NOT all baked fresh and they don't have vegan options on the weekends. Many of their cookies were stale when I ordered 4 on a Sunday early afternoon :(
3 stars for their averge tasting muffins and smoothies that are very just and sweet (made with pre made fruit juices).
2 stars for healthiness. They try by offering "healthy" dairy free smoothies, vegan and gluten free cookies options but for the most part, they are full of sugar which is why they are good. common, it's a cookie, what do expect!
Cookies are Charged by weight - generally about $2 each. Did you know that the cookie dough comes pre made in large buckets and scooped and baked every day (except weekends unless someone just slacked off the day I went). I wonder which company makes the dough? -

I work near the SUB so I often go to Blue Chip on my coffee break. UBC is famous for its cinnamon buns. They are good but the I like the Blue Chip ones a lot better especially if you go first thing in the morning when they are hot from oven. The pastry is flaky, there's enough butter to make the cinnamon and sugar stick and the glaze on top is the perfect amount where it doesn't overwhelm the whole thing.
Go to Blue Chip - grab a dark roast coffee and a cinnamon bun - a nice treat that will cost your around $4. Thinking about this now makes me want to go get one in the morning...in fact, I will! -
Review from David L.
Best cookies ever? It's one of the better places for cookies at a university campus. I do like Swirls at UBC a bit more. I like the fact that Blue Chip Cookies are freshly baked everyday and every cookie I buy are always on the soft side.
Often, I find cookies from Blue Chip tend to be a bit too greasy and sugary. I do sort of like the Marbelous cookie but I do find it sometimes too greasy, buttery and sugary. The Brazilian Crunch cookie tastes like a fudge brownie - great for brownie lovers. My favourite is the Smarties cookie. There's melted chocolate inside of the cookie! I discovered that it's their best seller too.
Lineups are always long. Maybe they should stop weighing the cookies and make each cookie the same size! -
Review from Siri W.
Oh Blue Chip, how would I ever make it through 9AM Classical Rhetoric without you?
This place is a lovely little respite from the other UBC establishment (which are, unfortunately, mainly of the greasy variety.) It's ALWAYS got a huge line, but the workers are fast and very courteous. The coffee is very reasonably priced for us poor starving students and the cookies - oh the cookies. There are some blustery November days that only a Marbelous cookie from Blue Chip will fix.
Their other snacks are absolutely delish as well. Yummy cupcakes, great bars of different varieties, and the chocolate chip cookies are a close second to Marbelous - the chocolate chips are MASSIVE.
And because of the demand, the cookies are almost always fresh out of the oven. Biting into some of their deliciousness, somehow makes being barely awake and lectured to about ancient Greek rhetoricians not seem so bad.
Love ya Blue Chip - see you bright and early on Monday ;) -

I ended up trying Blue Chip Cookies because my coworkers come here every morning for coffee and some delicious baked goods. The line up is a lot longer during the school year, but it moves really quickly and the cookies are definitely worth the wait. Don't forget to bring your own mug and get a discount!
I have to agree with the other reviewers that the marbelous cookie is absolutely fantastic! I'm also a huge fan of the smarties cookie (I'm pretty sure mine contained half a box of smarties). No matter what cookie you choose, you can't go wrong!
I'm not a coffee drinker, but I am a huge fan of their Numi Gunpowder Green Tea. All of the tea's are priced the same regardless of the size you order, so for $1.85 you can get an extra large tea! -

Hands down best cookies in town. I used to come here in University and went there again today after years of graduating, the quality is still amazing as ever. Think about the best cookie you've ever had, and multiply the goodness by two, that's how good these are. My favorite is java nut, but marbelous and brazil nut are good too. I can imagine everything here to be pretty delicious. Must try.

I could write a review about all of their individual cookies, but honestly, you just have to try them. They're all amazing.
There seems to be a lot of people deducting stars for bad coffee, but I have a strange feeling that they may have gotten a bad barista that pulled the shot too early or something like that.
Their coffee and espresso is miles better than Starbucks, but not quite near the 49th Parallel standards or Cafe Artigiano.
Recently they've added daily specials which are great for the average student who's a bit short on cash. -

This place is a weekday regular for me and my colleagues-team americano. They know what we want and collect our mugs to prepare the drinks prior to us all getting through the cashier. It can get busy during the school year but they are not as slow as the nearby Starbucks in the SUB and much less expensive.
In addition to their coffees, there is a great selection of cookies etc. My favourites are the vegan cookies and the vegan chocolate chip banana bread, but they all have their merits--especially when they are still warm out of the oven.
Prices are decent and discount is given for bringing your own mug. Loyalty card for those who bring your own mugs too--ten and next one is free. Sometimes they don't want to give you an expresso drink for the free one, until you show them that the expresso drink (at least an americano in own mug) is cheaper than a drip coffee. -

Giant cookies. That's what I remember about the Blue Chips from my UBC days. The cookie goodness continues like everyone else quoted here. This is one place I fear to come if I don"t have my tumbler with me. I almost feel like I would receive a reaction: " How can you not care! (gasp**) they used to have a stamp card for coffees but not sure if they still do. The coffee is... Meh.....
I would try their hot chocolate next time! -

Best cookies EVER. These large, decadent treats are a highlight of the UBC campus. My favourites would have to be the Marbelous cookie for its white chocolate melty goodness, but I'm also a fan of the Brazilian Crunch and Java Nut. Try the Ranger cookie - it looks a little weird but it's surprisingly tasty. I also get the banana chocolate chip muffin which is so good but also so filling that I often have to save the rest for later. They offer gluten-free cupcakes and bars too which is awesome. They price their cookies by weight but it usually rings in at about $1.25-$1.75/cookie.
As for drinks, I'm not a huge fan of their lattes or hot chocolate, you can get better elsewhere. But their tea is yummy, I particularly like the vanilla black tea.
They do add a 10c green tax when you use a paper cup, and they have a 10c off green discount when you bring your own mug. -
Review from Reena M.
I have to deduct a star because the coffee is not so great.. I had a latte this afternoon and the espresso tastes like cigarettes. :-(
However, their cookies and muffins are still great! And the chocolate cupcakes are awesome too.Listed in: Yelping 101 at the University…, Latte? Capuccino? Americano?…, Best Desserts in Vancouver, Anti-Valentine's Day List, Tourism Vancouver

Prior to going here, I thought these were the Blue Chip Cookies I used to enjoy back in San Francisco. In any case, it doesn't matter because this is good as well in it's own right. The cookies are surprisingly big for Vancouver-size standards. There are interesting concoction of flavours for their cookies.
I wish they would offer some buy 5 get 1 free or even a stamp card. But obviously the reviews and customer loyalty especially from students wouldn't need any added marketing gimmick.
The cookies were a hit and miss. Some were deliciously moist. The next one I tried (oh, yes I ate two big cookies in a row. Mwa ha ha!) was a little bit dry inside.
I'd give them another try when in the area. -

Located on the main level of the Student Union Building at UBC, Blue Chip offers wonderfully unhealthy freshly baked huge cookies. They sell them by weight since each one is a different size. They use all fresh ingredients, and it comes through in the taste. These are some of the best cookies I have found in Vancouver. My favourites are the marbelous and smarty cookies. The Marbelous is a black and white cookie that is a chocolate base, and a white chocolate smaller 2nd layer. The white chocolate can sometimes be way too sweet - so try to take one with a smaller white part if you see it! The smarty cookie is basically a chocolate chip cookie that has smarties instead of chips. Make sure to grab extra napkins as the cookies will leave a set of happy greasy fingers.
They also offer Fair trade coffee and use fully compostable cups and cup insulators. Bring your own coffee mug/container and you get a discount as well.Listed in: Dentists' Dreams in Vancouver, Vancouver Coffee

When did they get rid of the island?
As a loya customer circa 2001 this place has not changed one bit, save for the island and the cheap styrofoam cups that used to leak. but no more obtrusive island and no more cheap cups!
PROS:
-Fair trade coffee that is more affordable than any other chain. and less than 2$ for an extra large 20oz, this place has remained a bargain while other places keep on raising prices
-Discounts if you bring your tumbler- yes, should be mandatory in all cafes
-Discount baked goods earl morning (do you have an 8am class? Go get yourself a day-old pastry for 50 cents. It's still delicious.
-Cookies. DECADENCE to the nth degree
-Hot Chocolate (still one of the BEST in Vancouver!)
-Soy - they got it out in the open- you dont' have to ask for it
CONS:
-the line gets long but where does that NOT happen @ UBC
-yeah..there really are no cons.
go get a damn blue chip cookie now! -
Review from Peter S.
My go-to cookie place at UBC is losing a star. Heavens, say it ain't so.
Unfortunately the last three visits yielded semi doughy cookies and bitter lattes. What the heck Blue Chip?
Your muffins are still pretty good. But come on, lets face it. We visit for the cookies. Get it together!
I need my fix damn it.Listed in: Vancouver's best Lattes, My dirty picks, Baked Goods, Tea. I am addicted!

Relaxed and tired, I am not reluctant to go to Starbucks for its long line nor Tim Horton's a 5minute walk away from the SUB. So I pop by one of my favorite hang-out places- Blue Chip Cookies. My little devil horns appear when I see the smell of mixed baked goods wafts across the hallway just a few steps away from fresh bagels and a popular pub. Ding- it is totally in-sync to when the server brings out a new batch of cookies. Then I hover around the area to see what is on the tray.
Up to this day, I have never mentally said "no" when I see my favorite, the Marbelous and the Brazil nut. Another must try is their cinnamon buns. I have some stomach issues where I can't eat something that's too rich. But this bun has everything in just the right ratios without making it taste "too healthy." The reason for the 4 stars, after my long rave, is their fair trade coffee is a total miss. There were times when I settle for a coffee instead of a cinnamon bun (only because they haven't finished the first batch in the early morning) and I would wish I didn't choose to waste that 2 dollars.
This is an overall great store to check out. Marbelous is so popular; sometimes it will take a long while until their next batch. So when you are there, be sure to fight for them (and be sure to save me one!). -

Marbelous is my all time favorite cookie. Ever. People aren't kidding when they say that these are the best cookies that they have ever eaten!
The coffee is fair trade and delicious! you can purchase an attractive reusable mug here, too.
I've tried a couple of the vegan snacks, like the mint brownie, but they are a bit dry. Probably my opinion is biased, because the cookies are just so good. -
Review from Maha E.
Mmm, I can't think of a better pick-me-up before or after exams.
The Numi teas have a price-cap, so you can purchase a large tea for the same price of a medium.
You get a bit of a price-break if you bring your own travel mug.
Downside: the line-up; try not to hit this place in-between class beginnings and ends, or you'll be stuck there for a good fifteen plus minutes.

Recommended Cookie: marbelous.
Score: absolutely marbelous! -

I'm not a big fan of cookies but I LOVE BLUE CHIP'S MARBELOUS cookie! You can tell my excitement from the all-caps and exclamation marks!!! Marbelous has these wonderfully huge white chocolate chunks that just melt in your mouth! Yum. I've also tried the Brazilian Crunch one and didn't like it as much because it was a tad too oily for me. Plus, I'm not a nut person and the Brazilian Crunch is loaded with them but people seem to love this one because by the time I get to Blue Chip (usually late afternoon) they're usually practically all gone.
Oh, the muffins are delicious too! The muffin top is perfectly crunchy, as it should be, and the bottom part is good too. I'm a fan of the bran one but I've also tried the banana chocolate chip and that was nearly as awesome.
Seriously, awesome baked goods! I'm glad I don't live on-campus or else I'd be 50 lbs heavier and nursing a cookie/muffin hangover everyday. *drool* -
Review from Dani B.
This place hits the spot when looking for something sweet. I absolutely loved their Ranger cookies and their fruit buns. I did eat here too much though, because it was the perfect cheap and yummy snack after long study sessions. They also have semi-healthy options and the barista's are honest about which items are good for you and which ones are a bit of a splurge.
The nice thing about this place is you get a discount for bringing your own cup, so do so if you can! They also have many fair-trade coffees, and it's a student owned and operated business.
Lot's of options and lots of yum, if your on campus check it out -

Imagine this: it's soft, warm, sweet, edible and affordable. Yes, that is how I would describe the cookies at Blue Chip. When I attended UBC, it was really hard not to go here daily! I think the lineup was the biggest discouragement.
The marbelous (dark & white chocolate) cookie is my favourite, and I hear the cinnamon buns are delicious too but I have yet to try them. They also offer drink discounts if you bring your own drink container. -

grab a marbelous cookie or a smartie cookies, those are my favourite!

Yum! This place, along with Bernoulli's Bagels and 99 Chairs (RIP) fueled me through most of my four years at UBC. It's great because as I recall they charge by weight, so as long as you're not too hungry your cookie stays reasonably priced, happy happy!
My favourite is the white chocolate macadamia nuts cookies...so soft and warm when they just come out of the oven, the chocolate still only semi-solid as you pull the cookie apart...so much...butter....
Oh Blue Chip Cookies, you are making me drool just reminiscing (on my notes, thousands of miles away. Yeah. That good.) -

Passed by this place everyday. Looked at the big lineups 90% of the time. Smelled the cookies and coffee every time I passed. Read the reviews on Yelp. Been holding back because I know cookies are unhealthy.
But finally fell for it. FML.
Well it was worth it I guess. I've bought a muffin and a cookie in this place. I bought a whole wheat pumpkin or idontrememberthename or whatever muffin and it was good! They are tasty and it comes in generous proportions. I've bought Brazillian Crunch cookie as recommended by a friend of mine and most reviews in Yelp recommended that cookie as well. The cookie itself is a bit firm. I would've liked softer and chewier cookies like that of Tim Hortons but when you get to the middle part it gets softer. It tastes great and IT CONTAINS NUTS! IT CAN MAKE YOU NUTS!
anyway yeah, the cookie was tasty.
As for price they are decent. Muffins cost about $1.5 or so and the cookie cost $1.89 I think. A bit pricey, that's why I gave a 4* (yes2 I'm cheap whatever) but the cookie was pretty big.
Coffees here are Fair Trade coffees! Yummy the taste of coffee beans and sweat of farmers. They're pretty cheap too, cheaper than Starbucks I believe. Wheee.
If you're feeling like having a bite for something sweet just come here! -

One word..Marbelous. That's one of the best cookies they serve there. Chocolate cookies with white chocolate melted on top except I don't know what they put in there but it basically tastes like heaven. Warning: addiction may occur. You will never eat a better cookie anywhere else. Their coffee's also really good and really cheap if you bring your own mug.

If there's a downside to graduating university, being essentially cut off from my brazil crunch cookies would be it. There was never a bad exam, all nighter or hangover that these cookies couldn't fix. It may sound extreme, but these are not cookies you find anywhere - only at blue chip. Their coffee can be hit and miss (often a bit on the slow side), and the line-up sucks between classes, but oh...it's worth it. I miss you, brazil crunch!

Had to go to UBC today and after reading peoples raves about this place thought I had to try it for myself. I think I ordered too many cookies as it took me a while to eat them all. They are dense and big! Really one of the best cookies I have had, they are nearly as good as the ones that I make. I love their coffee as well. I was surprise at the cost of the cookies at first but realized later that one or two cookies would definitely satisfy your cookie lust. I tried the marbelous and the Brazilian crunch.

I don't go to UBC. But my boyfriend does and I beg, beg, beg him to bring me home cookies. I think the ones he brings me are called Marbelous and Brazilian Crunch. I haven't paid much attention. He might be telling me about green tax (when you pay extra for disposable coffee cups) and a green credit (for bringing your own coffee mug) but I'm too busy making googly-eyes with the goey-ness and the big white chocolate chunk on my cookie.

Brazil nut or Marbelous? This is the dilemma I frequently had to face when I visited Blue Chip.
Blue Chip is just a staple on campus, and a good place to go after you've written a crappy exam or need to refuel for the paper that's due tomorrow. A rich cookie after wading through the swimming pool puddles? Awesome.
Decent coffee, good prices (comparatively for UBC), and sugary goodness! A must-visit when you're in the SUB. -

It might be named for the cookies but the coffee is where Blue Chip earns some stars. While the baked goods are excellent, all three varieties of the brew on offer here are exactly what a commuting student like me needs to kill a few minutes before class. I got the Mexican blend here yesterday and it honestly tasted like chocolate. I don't mean that fake flavoured stuff you get in the grocery store or a mocha. This was real coffee, but it had a chocolaty essence to it that I've never experienced with a cup of joe before. I think I'm in love.

I am a HUGE fan of Blue Chip Cookies cookies! Especially Marbelous and Brazilian Crunch! Marbelous is a chocolate cookie with a hugeass chuck of white chocolate on top, and Brazilian crunch is a white chocolate macadamia also with the same hugeass white chocolate chunk on top (you see a pattern here?). They're probably jam-packed with calories, but they're good for the soul and have gotten me through tough times in undergrad. Get them when they're fresh out of the oven; it's crunchy on the outside and chewy and hot on the inside. Their grease soaks through the bags that they come in, but hey, you only live once.
They also have a nice selection of other pastries, coffees and teas. -

Seriously the most amazing cookies you could ever have! I discovered this place when I was still in high school but was at UBC for a special event. Ever since, whenever I'm at UBC, I try to make a stop at this place. I love their Marbelous cookie and their Brazil Nut is amazing too. The melted chocolate on the top takes the whole cookie to another level. The line is long usually, but its so worth the wait!

Excellent coffee. Everytime I walk in from the bus loop into the SUB, I laugh to myself at the sheep in the starbuck's line waiting for their turn to buy overpriced burnt coffee. If only they knew how much better Blue Chip is... hopefully they don't as the lineup at Blue Chip is always shorter than Charbucks. As mentioned cookies are fantastic as well, especially the freshly baked ones. yum yum
