I don't eat meat, so I don't know how good their meat tastes. But I often shop at the Bloor Meat Market for my meat eating husband. The service here is genuinely friendly and the staff offer advice on cooking the meat. My husband is a terrible cook, but has become very comfortable cooking his own steak with the advice he receives at this butcher shop.

This is an excellent old-world butcher shop. Nice cuts of meat so far superior to those found in the stupor-market chains that you may literaly ask, "What have I been eating all my life?"
If you haven't experienced the joys of purchasing your proteins from a real butcher you're in for a treat here. Friendly service and sage preparatory advice will quickly have you cooking your high class meat in a style befitting your obviously excellent taste.
Really nice selection of meat and also some nice fish - the organic Irish salmon was truly superb. Lots of other good stuff, so take some time and shop around.
Definitely worth a trek to Bloor West Village - it's the oldest butcher shop in Toronto! - easily accessible via TTC.Listed in: Meet the Meat

Excellent.
Great cuts of meat with olde world charm.
They also have a nice selection of marinated meat & shishkabobs for the BBQ.
I'll definitely go back -

I'm new to the country, and this is the first butchers I have actually bought from (been into a couple of others nearby, but they were too expensive). Very knowledgeable staff, who are patient and willing to offer advice and suggestions. Prices are really good too. Didn't try the sausages, but they had a good range and they looked delicious.
I will be going here for my meat in future -

A really good butcher shop that is often bustling, but still has its charm: the weird, anachronistic "box office" they have inside is one example. We used to order goose here for Christmas when expecting to feed a bigger holiday crowd (but lately it's been small turkeys from No Frills, which are admittedly cheaper).
Bloor Meat Market has a good selection of more usual meats and cuts, but I was a little disappointed the last time I came here for pork hocks, when all they had were pre-cooked, packaged ones.Listed in: My Neighborhood

This butcher shop is worth visiting even if you're not from the Bloor West Village area. It's the oldest butcher shop in Toronto and it's still in the same family. This is the definitely the case of the people making the place. The people who own and work here seems to just take pride in what they do and what they have to offer. Drop by, choose from the many cuts of meat and ask the person behind the counter how best to prepare it. I guarantee that you'll get the most thoughtful questions and answers. Enjoy the old school vibe of the place complete with the sawdust on the floor. And for a treat, chat up the blonde lady (owner's wife) that works at the cashier -- she's a hoot and a good soul; I just wish I can remember her name since I've been going there for the past 8 years.

We popped in here again today to grab some kebabs. They were out of my favourite...or so it seemed, but they were super willing to make up some more. For this we were super grateful. Each of the kebabs were delicious. The staff was friendly and they moved through the orders in a fair and speedy way. I love the string suspended from the ceiling that they use to tie up the packages.

With its creaky wood floor and old world feel, this butcher shop is a great option for meat loving west-enders. The selection is fresh, affordable and varied, offering local choices as well as a vast selection of global delights (organic salmon from Ireland?!). Plus the brown paper packages (all tied up with string) come with the added help of friendly and knowledgeable staff whose advice goes far beyond recommended cooking temperature. Even paying at this place is whimsical-- the register and cashier are inside an old style movie ticket booth-- taking you back to a time before meat was offered on Styrofoam trays.

The best mild Italian sausage in the city hands down!
