First time at Blo Blow Dry Bar and I love it. I went there because of NYE party and I wanted to look sexy on that night.  The stylist understood what I wanted and did a pretty good job. She was really friendly and efficient.  I was out of there in no time!

The space is modern but on the cozy side.  So I didn't get the "pampering" experience.  Since I paid $35 plus taxes and tips, I thought it was a bit pricey.  So I'll go there for special ocasssions.

For my wedding this past summer, I chose Blo Yaletown to do my bridal party 'dos. It was close to my Maid of Honor's apartment where we were getting dressed, and more affordable than going to a high-end salon. I got the bridal package which included a consultation and I showed up to it with a couple of photos, wanting a combination of the two hairstyles. The stylist (the manager, I believe it was) did a fantastic job and got it just right on the first try.

Feeling happy and confident, I arrived with my bridesmaids, mother and mother-in-law on the day of my wedding where Blo had perfectly coordinated all of our appointments so that we would be done at around the same time and back at the apartment just in time to meet my makeup artist. I can't tell you how every minute counts when you're getting wedding prepped!

I felt absolutely beautiful for my wedding, as did my bridesmaids and the moms. We all got so many compliments on our hair and the photos look amazing.

Thanks for being a part of my special day, Blo!

I know you could get your hair done without getting a haircut at any salon, but I love the easy-to-use setup at Blo. I simply booked online (and got a same-day appointment), picked a style from the menu (OK, the sketches of the hairdos could possibly be more helpful and perhaps show variations on medium to long hair lengths), sat down and read trashy magazines (flipping dramatically each time I encountered those f$$$ing Kardashian people), and then walked out around 45 minutes later with a Hollywood blowout that had so much wavy volume, my hair felt like it was floating.

It sure beat the panties out of wrestling with my blowdryer and brush and mousse trying desperately to achieve something that would resemble a hairSTYLE.

I'm totally going to do this again for major events and parties. Well worth the bucks to look like a million.

Well....  I hate to rain on the parade but I had a terrible experience at Blo, Yaletown.  I could go on with all kinds of witty jokes here but I won't waste your time.  Here's the juicy story:

I walked in on a whim on a Friday night.  The receptionist went to ask about availability and to my surprise, they could take me at that time.  She led me to my seat and asked what I would like done (no one showed me a sample book!).  Since it was a special occasion (My Birthday) I asked for a Marilyn Monroe style - which should leave nothing to the imagination since they have a 6ft tall picture of her on the wall.

The receptionist gets busy fussing with my hair - weird, you are a receptionist and a stylist?  No comment, just a smile.  I expect to go to the sink but she starts curling my hair with a flatiron and spraying hairspray everywhere and back-combing my hair into a beehive.  I stop her and explain again what I want.  After 10 minutes of this going nowhere (I am trying to be patient) I instruct for the 3rd time what I would like and point to the huge picture on the wall. Another 5 minutes goes by she disappears to go talk to another 'stylist'.

I can see the other girl had just finished up with someone else.  She comes over and quickly takes over my now rats nest hair while space cadet stands and gawks over her shoulder.  I realize the receptionist is not a double agent but just a receptionist.

They actually took a booking just to make that extra $30 when there wasn't a qualified person to do my hair.  The 'actual' stylists puts a few curls in my hair, sprays the shit out of it and they send me off.  When I get home 15 minutes later, my back combed mess has lost all of its curl and looks like a sad wig.

I start from scratch and do my own hair for my Birthday.

    45 minutes, $30, 1 pissed off customer

    Blo.Me.Dry.

    Haiku:
    Fabulous Hair Styles
    Thirty dollars plus taxes
    Great prep for tonight

Blo as us locals call it, is a fantastic oasis in the city and one that I would strongly recommend to any girlies getting ready for a night out, attending a black tie, having a bad day, or just in need of some pampering.
In just thirty minutes Blo stylists work their magic and transform you from a stylish vixen with an unruly mane into a sweet darling with a fantastic head-turning coif. Their set menu from which to choose your 'do and has all sorts of different styles - from "Holly wood" (think sexy curls), to poker straight, to a "Bardot updo"  and all in a short (30 minute-ish) visit.
AND (the icing on the cake) for those bad days/pre-partying ways, Blo carries a special occasions license so feel free to bring a bottle of wine, champagne, or whatever your alcoholic choice in beverage may be to enjoy while being made up.

I can't rave enough about this place! I go here every time I have a special event to dress up for, or for a quick pampering escape. It's also nice to take a girlfriend along so we can catch up over a good gossip in the time it takes to be made up. But a tip from a local: make an appointment if you know what time you would like to go. Weekends fill up fast and often walk-ins aren't available on a Friday-Saturday when a Blo visit is needed the most!

    Love the concept.
    1. They wash your hair
    2. You choose 'do from book with sample up do's and blo outs
    3. Blo Artist blowdries, curls, hairsprays - the works all while you read fun gossip mags. No cutting at all!
    4. Within half an hour from start to finish you leave looking like you're ready for the red carpet. All for $30.

AWESOME. I went to Cara at the Yaletown location. I'm picky with my stylists and really liked her so will likely go back to her for next time.

Blo is a great concept and was very good until it was sold to new owners. Now all the good stylists are gone and the service is awful. Some stylists are so bad they rip and tear the hair. Pay a few dollars more and go to a salon where stylists are properly trained and skilled.  Blo now has high turnover with minimal training.   Most have never worked with hair before.

Like the pink and white chic decor.
@ Graville.  Had a newbie stylist needless to say not the best hair do I've got.  Customer service is good.  Would recommend to try but make sure you get a seasoned stylist.

Any place that promises me luscious hair in under 30 minutes gets 5 stars in my books.

And as promised, within half an hour, I got hair that's probably impossible to attain by oneself. This place is perfect to go to before a big night out, or just if you want to treat yourself to something good! It's relatively inexpensive and the results are indeed, luscious.

Now if only they would open up in the suburbs!!

This is a review for the Four Seasons location. The only thing I really liked was the male receptionist who helped me out when making the appointment; very helpful, kind, answered all my questions with detail. I saw one stylist who was finishing up a great looking blow out  so I made an appointment with confidence.

The actual appointment itself was disappointing. Firstly my stylist was telling me about how she actually went to school to do makeup and doesn't really want to do hair but did the training program anyway. This kind of worried me - how much work are you going to put into something you don't really want to do? Secondly, she tugged a lot on my hair - it really hurt! However, I didn't speak up so that was my fault. Thirdly, she sprayed hair spray on my hair (and all over my face) and guaranteed that my hair would stay the entire day as long as I didn't touch it for 10 minutes while it set. I followed her instruction yet it was deflated and lost most of its curls within the hour and I was finding small sections that she missed during the appointment.

My initial visit making the appointment makes me believe that great service is possible at this location. However, unless I get a referral for stylist from someone, I most likely will not be back.

Fabulous concept that's perfect for Yaletown.

As someone who rarely does anything with her hair, save slipping in a fancy headband once and awhile, Blo always succeeds in making me feel like a superstar in exactly the time they advertise, about 30-45min. I also appreciate that these blow outs are perfectly affordable. Great for special occasions.

They're very big (pun intended) on backcombing, and as a customer, insist on letting them know immediately if something's not going the way you look. Otherwise you could have a hot mess beehive on your hands. Because of the limited time, communication is key. Otherwise, the service is attentive,

I've been to Blo a handful of times and I even though I'm aware of their specific styles, I've actually usually just sat down and told them what I wanted, and they go ahead with it. Very accommodating.

I think the only thing that would make this place better, is if they offered a make-up service for a similar price ($35). That way you could get a whole make-over package for under $100.

well the blo.me.dry venue i went to wasn't in yaletown; that much i'll clarify. it was the south granville location and this was a while ago, but i figure i should leave a review since they are a chain and affiliated.

maybe i had a bad stylist? but regardless. the whole concept of this place is ... to give you a stellar blow out. they don't cut. they don't color. they just ... blow. so. if that's all you're gonna do, you better do a DAMN good job. and not half assed.

it's like, going to a restaurant. and they don't serve .. anything BUT cheese. no bread. no butter. no drinks. just ... cheese. that cheese better blow you through the roof. ya know what i'm saying??

so back to why it sucked.

i have naturally curly hair so i've been blowdrying my own hair since i was 12. i've worn it straight. i've worn it afro. i wear it up, i wear it down. i'm not a pro by any means, but i know hair b/c i've spent countless hours blow drying my OWN hair. and i've spent tons of time sitting in a hairdressers chair getting it blown.

stuff i CAN do? i can straighten, i can give volume, i can do the basics and a bit more thru experience. the reason why human beings HAVE stylists is so ... the PROFESSIONAL could do stuff that YOU can't do. it's not acceptable when you leave a salon thinking, 'wow. that was so bad. i could've blown my own hair better.'

and i left thinking that. shame!

the stylist never asked what i wanted (there is SO much to do with hair. SO MUCH.) and just lacklusturedly ran some heat through it. it was ass.

    the end.

Love love love! What can I say who doesn't want to stroll into a little shop and come out with drop dead gorgeous locks 30 minutes later?! For $30 you can't get a better blow out.

Both times I have to admit I picked variations on the blo menu, but they were totally cool about it. Considering that it's a get-in-get-out type of experience they were actually very attentive to my experience. I only wish I lived closer to one so I could get them done all the time! Would totally recommend trying it out!

Although the first Blo Dry Bar has been open since 2007, it's taken me until now to experience my first Blo job.

I had an event to attend to at the Hastings Racecourse that required my Sunday best with pearls, mesh Cocoesque hat and a perfectly primped and curled coif. Blo was there to the rescue and my stylist Chris whipped me up into shape in about 30 minutes.

With no scissors (cutting is a no no) and no color (also a no no), for about $30 you get washed and blown with styles like, 'Executive Sweet', 'Bardot Updo', and 'Red Carpet'. You'll look perfect for that special day, important meeting or hot date.

Now you East Coasters can enjoy what we have as Blo opens their first location in Toronto on Yonge Street. As well, as of September 1, 2009 watch for their 'Mini Blo Bar' opening at the Four Seasons Hotel.

This place is always a Hit or Miss? Iv been going to the 4 seasons and South Granville location over the past 3.5 years, I have Naturally Curly hair so I bought a Blo Tab to use on Special occasions... Iv had great stylist at the 4 seasons location and South Granville but it seems Iv had more bad experiences then positive over the years! The blo outs in the last year had no effort put into them, no products were really used. Im also pretty sure you can just tell most of the young ladies their cant stand their job! The last 4 out 4 times Iv gone Iv left very disappointed.. My hair looked terrible and maybe stayed put for about 5 mins after I left... Iv also found that a lot of the girls are just to rough iv been burnt and had my scalp ripped out way to many times...and I know sometimes beauty is pain but then the end result should be fab! I always politly say When its hurting but they just seem to pull harder! Iv decieded to stop going to Blo as after tip its over $40 a blo out and it basically ( most of the time) looks like crap! Id rather spend my $ at a salon for a proper blo out! If you get a great blo out make sure you get her name so you can book the stylist next time otherwise its a hit or miss everytime!

Blo. Me, Dry.  That grabs attention, doesn't it?  That's the point of these cleaver, all-pink hair places that offer a blow-out or hair-styling for about $30 plus taxes and tip.  The appointment only salon has a very cute menu that you can choose a hair-style from. After a quick meet-and-greet, shampoo and conditioning, you're in a chair and getting styled to the nines.  I have chosen the straight-out flat ironed look and the curly and flirty roller look.  The pink hair-dryers and free coffee and water service is a really nice touch.  Val who is one of the owners is a great reference to have when he is in the store.  The Yaletown location is my favorite but I've heard that the Four Season's one is the place to go for a morning martini and a blow-dry.  Hmmm...martinis at 9am?  Sounds like a delicious breakfast to me.

Blo is fabulous when you need your hair done quickly for any type of event. I've used them for girls' nights out and for attending weddings. While you can pick your 'do out of their style book, they've always been very accommodating if you would like a different style and ask your opinion throughout the entire process. This ensures your hair turns out how you like and you go away fully satisfied! I've only been to the Yaletown location but love it!
