I love cupcakes, who doesn't but I'm fussy I don't like overly sweet cupcakes.  The best I've found so far is Bliss & Co.  They are tasty and the moist and don't give you pancreatic pain as soon as you take a bite.  My fave: Island Dream - their signature cream cheese buttercream with coconut cake which is just delicious.

I had tried Bliss @ Chinook and wasn't so keen about it.  I'm now closer to Chinatown and happened to pass by Bliss & Co.  Not sure if I wanted to buy any cupcakes, I took a look. The nice lady behind the counter told me they had flourless chocolate cupcakes.  I was ecstatic as flourless cake is part of the South Beach Diet.  Now, if they only made it sugar-free, then it would make me happy!

Truly, truly a moist flourless chocolate cupcake.  Delish!  You can add either a Raspberry Compote or a creamcheese icing - you can choose the falvour you want!

After going to Crave a couple of times, and after hearing raving reviews, I failed to be impressed due to the fact that the icing is far too rich for my liking resulting in me becoming violently ill...not to mention the prices for a damn cupcake.  After those wonderful times of getting sick, I swore off cupcakes for a long time.

That did change after my friend dragged me down to Bliss...although  I'm not a huge pastry fan, I did find a heavenly bliss in those cupcakes so to speak.  Although the location in Chinatown is quite little in size, it does not deter them from offering a big variety of cupcakes in different sizes as well as new desserts such as cream puffs and pies.  A great plus is that Bliss products do not contain peanuts or artifical sweetners/flavourings
The girls that work there are exceptional at what they do where they are super-duper friendly and very helpful.  If you have trouble picking a flavour, do ask them for assistance where they can help you narrow down your choices.

If you are a first timer down to Bliss, the location can be hard to find as it is a below-the-street unit.  If you are driving, keep in mind that parking is quite limited where it can be easier to walk - however all in all, taking the trip is definitely worth it.
The strawberry bliss and after eight cupcakes are absolutely delish - but whatever the cupcake you try, it can be shockingly sweet for some, especially for those that are trying Bliss for the first time.  So bring a friend along for the trip to share one or a few of these delectable pastries. =P

Bliss may have overtaken Crave as the best cupcake in Calgary!

After being tired of the overly-iced, super-sugary Crave cupcakes, I started sending the Bliss minis to my clients as thank-you gifts.  They have all raved about them, and love the change from Crave.  The cakes are moist, and the icing is just right.  Not too much, not too little, and not so sugary that your teeth hurt.  You can be guaranteed not to get more icing than cake when you visit Bliss.

A friend brought over some mini-cupcakes from Crave the other day, which put cupcakes on my mind and reminded me that I wanted to try this place.

Following in the footsteps of other cupcake businesses, Bliss & Co. opened in a small space in Chinatown earlier in 2009. They offer similar selections to Crave at comparable prices (just a smidgen cheaper.) I also noticed that all their products are nut-free. If only they could figure out how to make a dairy-free version!

I tried the Valencia cupcake - chocolate cake with orange butter cream frosting - and it was soft and delicious but not sickly sweet. I can't really say I prefer either these or Crave's, because I think both are really yummy products and I'm not sure I'd be able to tell them apart aside from Bliss' softer icing (a matter of personal preference, I think.)

I received a discount because one of the owners told me my cupcake was "a bit smallish" (really? I didn't notice.) They also make cakes and pies which I'm sure would be equally tasty.

The owners are friendly and happy to talk about their business. My only complaint is they ran out of menus to bring home with me to plan for my next indulgence.

$2.75 for one cupcake - a small luxury, but I can think of worse vices.

Little bit of heaven ..oh yes!

It is Assistants Week right now so our firm went and bought a bunch of cupcakes from Bliss and brought them around the office.

    Well helloooooo sugar high!

I had a chocolate cupcake with light blue icing.  Wow ..it was so good!

I have been partial to Crave cupcakes in the past, but now I have TWO places to love! Hurray!

I also heard a rumor that they offer gluten and dairy free varities! my my!

I am not ashamed to say I sat in my chair bopping up and down with glee while eating my Bliss cupcake mmmmmmm

By far the best place to get deliciously yummy cupcakes that don't taste like a mouthful of lard and sugar.

Besides being peanut free, they also use no artificial colour or flavours in their baking.

They have regular size cupcakes and mini ones, as well as a variety of pies and other desserts.

The two gals that own the place are fantastic -- super-friendly and passionate about what they're doing. The service is fantastic, too. If they don't have the specific cake/icing combo you're looking for, they're always happy to check their icing bags and quickly put together what you want.

They're a little hard to find if you don't know where they are, as they're below street level. Keep an eye out for their sandwich board sign on the sidewalk, though, and you'll find it. They're at the bottom of a short flight of stairs (which I'm sure burns off the calories from a 12-pack of cupcakes. :)

Because they're located in Chinatown, it's almost impossible to get parking in front of the store. There is an Impark nearby and street parking is sometimes available within a block or few.

I have gotten cupcakes and cakes from Bliss & Co a few times.  They are absolutely awesome!  I like them much better than Crave & Buttercream for a few different reasons: they aren't as sweet, they have different kinds of cake instead of just vanilla & chocolate) & the sisters that run the place are very, very friendly and easy to work with.  My favorites are the coconut cake (coconut is in the icing and in the cake), the red velvet w/cream cheese icing, the carrot cake & the chocolate cake with caramel buttercream.  Definitely my "go to" place for cupcakes and cakes.  Yum!
