Review from Sandra T.

My experience with Blackcomb Sleighrides was very positive.
My first time riding in a sleigh was several years ago in Lake Louise. I think the service was run by Chateau Lake Louise and it felt a little impersonal, cold, and corporate. This was a totally different experience.
Our tour guide and his wife run the business and raise and take care of the horses themselves. It is always nice to support local business. He was warm, talkative and very personable - but still kind of gruff like you would expect from a cowboy.
We went at 5 pm which was PERFECT! It was still light enough to take pictures. On our way back, it darkened and we experienced the night time ride. The ride with light was much better. Too bad they don't have earlier rides but then again, this would interfere with the skiers/ snowboarders since they take us on a trail that goes through the ski hill.
Sooooo glad we went at 5 pm and I would recommend you do too.
Mid ride we stopped at a small shack to have hot chocolate. It was no name superstore brand hot chocolate. It was pretty good but I would probably suggest covering up the big yellow tubs to give it a more authentic feel and make the riders think they are getting home made hot chocolate. You don't have to lie, just hide the evidence.
It was a nice experience and I kind of wish we had spent more time checking out the view and taking pictures but most of the down time was spent in the shack.
The view was quite beautiful and since I didn't get to snowboard this trip, I am glad I got to experience the view from on top of the mountain.
I have warm feelings when I think to our sleigh ride. -
Review from Chandler H.
Blackcomb Sleighrides offers two rides--one is on Blackcomb Mountain, and the other is on a golf course. This review is for the mountain ride.
The sleigh is large, and carries a maximum of fifteen people. Pulling the sleigh are two large beautiful horses. I won't bother saying too much about the horses, as they have a number of them, and rotate through.
The ride is in two segments. You first traverse an uphill path for about twenty minutes to a cabin. You spend about ten minutes in the cabin drinking hot chocolate, and then return to the sleigh. The remainder of the ride is back down the path you came up.
If you have images of horses traveling through the snow at high speed you might be disappointed. This is definitely a slow trail, including breaks to rest the horses.
The driver of the sleigh, David, owns the company with his wife. He kept us entertained through the ride and obviously is passionate about his horses. My kids got a big kick out of meeting a real cowboy.
As I type this I am sure the description does not match the enjoyment we got out of the ride. It obviously would be fun to go a little faster, and to return on a different trail than you departed on. That being said, there is just something magical about riding on a horse drawn sleigh through the woods with the stars above you. I doubt we'll do it again soon due to the cost, but it was definitely a highlight of our Whistler trip.
