Without a doubt, the best place for breakfast in Winnipeg!

I wanted to love this place. A little vegan cafe that also served carnivores in the heart of Ellice Ave (aka Foodie Mecca).
Got in here while wandering around the West Side of the 'Peg and was underwhelmed by the decor. Dark and dingy, but it had character. Formica tables and country kitchen chairs with the cutest salt and pepper shakers. Hey, I know some people that would love this. So far, no problems.
Ordered some Buttermilk Pancakes with Bacon. Expected Veggie Bacon since this place was sitting in the Vegan camp in my mind. When the food arrived a while later, it turned out to be meaty bacon which is fine for me but could be a problem for others. Probably should have made that clear on the menu.
Pancakes were thick and fluffy and completely burned. I ate them and headed out. I know I should not judge on the one visit but unless I am looking for a place that serves scrambled tofu due to a partner's requests, I won't be going back.
The coffee was great and the price was good but the food needs to be improved. -

Black Sheep is a welcome addition to the quickly improving West End. Ingredients are wholesome, as local as possible, and most important - delicious !
Like others have mentioned, this is a small busy cafe. Feel free to share your table if you have extra seats to those waiting, you never know who you will meet!
Prices are very reasonable especially considering the quality of ingredients. The level of friendly service is awesome! -

Great little brunch place in the West End! You can easily drive by and miss this place if you're not looking too carefully. It's just a very short walk west of the U of W on Ellice. It's a small, unassuming eatery that probably only seats about 30 people. To generalize, the dining room was filled with a late 20's early 30's hipster crowd. But I don't think anyone should feel too out of place here. It's a casual and refreshing brunch place compared to the ever so popular Stella's and Fresh Cafe. The Black Sheep Diner and the Tallest Poppy are my new fav places as of late because they serve good solid food without trying too hard.
I love the old mismatched tables and chairs and the old cigarette vending machine by the register. A throwback to the days where I remember seeing them in a dark corner when there were still smoking and non-smoking sections in restaurants.
The breakfast menu runs all day but during the weekdays, there are sandwiches and burgers on the small lunch menu.
There's a daily omelette ($7.50) filled with whatever veggies is on special that day with a choice of a goat cheese or new bothwell cheese. It also includes a side of hash browns or fruit with toast on the side.
I went with the "choose your adventure breakfast adventure" for $7.50, which offers any 3 items listed plus toast and coffee. There's 2 eggs any style, farmer's sausage, hash browns, baked beans, bacon, fruit salad, avocado, steamed greens and roasted tomatoes. I went with scrambled eggs, farmer's sausage and hash browns. The eggs were bright yellow and fluffy, hash browns were perfectly seasoned with a great crust on the skin. The farmer's sausage was delicious without being overly salty. And the homemade jam went great with my multi-grain buttered toast. It's not a monstrous sized plate, but just good enough to hit the spot for the average person's appetite without feeling tired and lethargic afterwards. I opted for tea instead of the coffee. The Tabasco like hot sauce on the table is also a nice touch for those who want a bit of kick to their breakie.
Service is nice and the turnaround on food was pretty decent compared to other breakfast places around the city. And the prices are very reasonable. They take cash and debit, can't remember if they take credit though.
I'm looking forward to my future lunch visits! -

You don't expect to find a breakfast place this good in the Prairies.
A wonderful artistic ambiance. A mish-mash of hipsters and beautiful people. Friendly service with a smile. The best omelet I may have ever had.
You have to look for this place. It's nestled beside a laundromat in the west end of so-called downtown Winnipeg.
There are few tables, which even make the experience more special. It's a place well worth finding. -

A great brunch place in the West End of Winnipeg. The dining room is small and is generally filled with a mix of people of all ages. The ambiance is comforting and friendly. Service is kind and everything is done with a smile. Although quite hot due to no air conditioning, the service is fast enough to ensure the dining experience is pleasant.
I have tried a variety of items, but enjoy the eggs, mixed fruit, various toast, hash browns, etc. Very reasonable pricing too.
I highly recommend it! -

A much-needed addition to the West End's food scene--a "hip" lunch spot with a trendy menu. Lots of creative choices but the lighting & décor could use a boost. It can get busy too, and all their tables are 4-seaters, so it'd be nice if they added more tables or became less shy about seating strangers together during peak hours.
Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you're getting.
All in all a great start and I'm sure they'll only get better. -

In the past month or so I have been here about 4 times and brought different people. This is a great breakfast spot with reasonable prices, good coffee and the best homeade-like hashbrowns in the city.
I also enjoyed the veggie sandwich which was loaded with fresh veggies and came with a large side salad.
This place loses a star because the service is a little inattentive (even though the staff is friendly) and it was closed randomly one Sunday early afternoon when I had ridden my bike over specifically to go there. -

Wow what a treat to find this little gem (thanks to yelp for iPhone).
Nice little restaurant with an amazing breakfast. I had the "choose your own breakfast adventure" which consisted of:
Eggs (scrambled)
Hasbrowns
Farmer's Sausage
Substituted my toast for a buttermilk pancake
Everything tasted AMAZING. This was real farmer's sausage, not just a
Marketing term.
I normally am not into hashbrowns but these ones were very light refreshing baby potatotes cut up with some dill and light seasoning. I didn't even need katsup!
The buttermilk pancake was also light but delicious with real maple syrup.
The decor is limited but quaint.
What a relief to finally have a breakfast joint downtown that is delicious.
Highly recommended!

Lovely little brunch joint. The food was yummy, the waiters were friendly and the price was peachy. The only downside was the lack of waiting space, having to stand awkwardly in the middle of the room, giving the envious eagle eye to everyone else's food. But once that was over it was a bright and delightful brunch spot (particularly the table by the window).
