Review from John W.
Vancouver, BC
Can you say hill... what a driveway!
We stopped in here for a paid tasting & tour during a recent wine tour. I will say that it was worth it to pay for it. You sat off with other afficionados in a lovely sheltered gazebo and were guided through their wines by a wine evangelist. What a communion!
It defined an appreciation for their wines but it is still difficult to get hold of them. And pricey. The only reason it is not 5 stars...
Specialties
The Terroir on this 27-acre property is some of the most exceptional in the country. Located on the famed Black Sage Bench, our vineyard has a microclimate that makes it one of the hottest, driest and sunniest sites in Canada. The west-facing orientation combined with our deep desert sand, intense heat and cool nights yield intensely flavorful grapes. With careful irrigation techniques and intensely focused viticulture practices, these are ideal growing conditions for both the "Big Reds" and our aromatic whites. Our vineyard was first planted in 1996 and has been producing increasingly better wine grapes with each vintage. Plantings include the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc that go into our ultra-popular Nota Bene blend. Further, we produce the only single varietal Carmenere in Canada. We also grow crisp, ripe Sauvignon and Semillon grapes in our vineyard that are used to create our Alibi white blend. New to our wine portfolio introduced in 2009 is a Syrah and Viognier
History
Established in 1996
We were once known for our quaint Quonset Hut on our Black Sage Road vineyard. This quaint but technologically limiting facility was a landmark for years on the Black Sage Road wine trail. It was renowned both for its humble character as well as the "Sorry, Sold Out" sign that seemed to be always mounted outside. This all changed in 2007 when our operations were moved into a new winery only 1000 metres away designed by renowned architect, Nick Bevanda. This new winery proudly won a 2008 Lieutenant Governor's Award for architectural excellence. We are the only winery in Western Canada to have ever received this award. The inspiration for our design was the vision of a Crushpad right in the heart of our vineyard and in the closet possible proximity to our grapes. Having our winery immersed in our vineyard enables instantaneous processing of the grapes within minutes of picking at harvest time.
