Review from Devyn G.

This isn't a review. It's a eulogy.
I'm heartbroken to have seen that Black Dog is closing, or has closed. It's one of my two favourite independent businesses (the other being Red Rocket Coffee on Queen) in all of Toronto that seem to have shut its doors in the same week.
Thank you, Black Dog, for your uniqueness, your avant garde and charming vibe, your eagerness to listen and develop your DVD collection with the tastes of your community in mind. If it was those same glorious traits that contributed to your loss as a business, then this is truly a sad state of affairs in the world.Listed in: Queen West

I wish this was my local video shop. It's got a great collection of indie and rare films that stretches as far as the eye can see. It's $5 for new releases and $4 for regs. They also have some sweet boxsets and other harder-to-find flicks.
But lookit, I'm here to talk about ice cream.
If you are stranded near Queen and Ossington and are in desperate need of a cone around say 10pm, you are in luck. The kindly lasses behind the counter let us in one minute before close and scored us some scoops. A classy move indeed, and the iced creams were delicious. They also serve coffee and other cafesque treats. I shall be back again.
Obligatory Title Pun: Give a DOG a CONE!
Menu Readability: Ch-ch-ch-chalkboard.
Need to mention: I understand they have 'adult' fare downstairs. I can only imagine the poor soul that's still on dial-up, hacking his way through a thicket of cobwebs and pornographic DVDs.
What this place teaches me about myself: I thank the Sun God everyday for high speed Internet.Listed in: Queen Street Address, Lions and Tigers and Bears, Six Feet Under

God bless the independent video shops. You can always count on them to house not just newer releases, but allow you to go deeper into a back catalogue or two and either finally get around to see movies you should have, or reacquaint yourself with titles you remember. Black Dog has a great selection that provides you with just that.
Independently owned and operated, Black Dog has one of the broadest selections to be found and is certainly of wider breadth than any large chain à la Blockbuster. Let's add to this knowledgeable staff who can help you track down titles from the shelves and racks like guides on a big game hunt. This is worth the walk/drive/transit to get to for all your current as well as obscure movie needs. Oh, and if you need, there's also an Adult section downstairs. They don't judge. -

This is my local video store and I am totally happy it is such a good one. They stock new movie releases, documentary, tv shows on DVD as well as adding older gems to their catalog. The staff is friendly and the prices are great. Two features of the shop that are fun but I can't take advantage of are: dog treats for your puppy and a delicious looking ice cream counter.

I am proud that this is my local video (dvd) store. A fabulously diverse array of films, laid out in an orderly, easy to find manner. Fantastically friendly and helpful staff. I love the Staff Pick shelf-have discovered some great films there. Best of all, it's open late AND they make coffee! Also love the black dog out front.

Review from Brad C.
I stopped in for a coffee late Sunday night. I haven't been in a video store in at least 5 years... I am a netflix's member. Also I'm from out of town so I didn't think renting a movie would of been a good idea. But I did check out the selection, Black Dog had a good amount of movies I had never seen. I was there for a coffee. I got an americano, it was good and the service was great.
