Review from Julia C.
On my recent trip to Ottawa I decided to check out the new Black Cat location (and the new menu) with my friend. We went for a quick dinner so I can't comment on the wine selection (I was driving). I decided to trust the chef and ordered the chef's special pork (three little pigs) and my friend got the steak frites. The steak frites turned out just so so, but the pork dishes were exquisite (with the exception of the pulled pork in the middle - since I live in Honolulu, pulled pork anywhere else is just not as good). Afterwards, I had the rocher box and my friend had the creme brulee which he did not like. So it was kind of hit or miss for us. I'm rating it higher simply because it was exquisite the first time I went there years ago.
I think it's the same chef that was at Beckta and he's quite good though some of the dishes were a miss at Beckta and I guess now at Black Cat as well. But when they are good, they are really good!
On a final note, the parking is brutal at the moment since Preston is under some heavy construction (as are many places in Ottawa this summer, what gives??) But I parked right in front of the restaurant, I think illegally, so I can't complain.
