The ox tail changed my life, and the pork belly kimchi was one of the most creative, exciting dishes I've eaten in recent memory.  The wait staff was really nice and helpful, and they expect sharing, so they gave us plenty of empty plates.

I wasn't crazy about the lighting (seriously, are there any bright, airy pubs in Seattle?), but that is my only complaint.  Loved everything else.

I went here last week for Ladies Night, just to get away from the college scene. Black Bottle did not disappoint! But my wallet definitely took a hit...

The taco flight for happy hour was acceptable. I don't think it was anything to get too excited about, and the carne asada one was so spicy! I had to take a break because it was seriously heated. I was disappointed with the size of the crispy fried chicken and collard greens - only two 'sticks' of chicken! A friend of mine ordered the house-smoked wild boar ribs, which was excellent. The meat just fell right off the bone!

I'm a whiskey girl, and I've had whiskey sours at nearly every bar I've been to. The drink here was...okay. Not the best I've had. On a scale of 1 to "changed my life", I'd give it a solid 5. Just kind of ehh. For the happy hour price though, not too shabby.

Overall, I would recommend this place if you're looking for a cozy and casual place to just chill with your friends. The ambiance is chill/mellow, and the staff are cheerful and helpful.

I love the Bellevue location, so I thought I would love the Belltown location. So I came, I ordered the same menu items, and I learned that I do not love this location.

The employees were not as friendly or welcoming, so things didn't start off on a great note. Then the food arrived, and I got disappointed by the messy oysters (seemed like they rushed) and the overcooked hanger steak. I can't really tell how overcooked, but I know I like and order my steak rare, and that steak was not rare. The same plate is so much more perfect at their other location!

I guess this BB can satisfy the craving for hanger steak with daikon and some greens, but I'd rather go to the Bellevue location, or find a similar dish elsewhere. I was definitely disappointed when I left, and immediately stopped thinking about getting friends to meet me here for dinner.

Love the food and decently priced drinks.Nothing particularly healthy on the menu, so don't come here looking for that.  I've been here 4 or 5 times and the ambiance has been very different - it can go from comfortable to extremely loud.

    Today we had the following
    - Oxtail (awesome)
    - Fried Chicken and Collards
    - Chicken (stir fry with lettuce)
    - Pesto/arugula Flatbread
    - Ribs
    - seared tuna...that was disappointing.

I have been wanting to try Black Bottle for a while but not until last Friday I got a chance to come by for a friend's going away party. The food was surprisingly good. I've heard about the broccoli and it was indeed very tasty. We also tried the scallop/bacon wrap and the pork belly/kimchi combo. All were good choices.

The ambiance is great for friends gathering, not so much for romantic dates. They accommodated our big party of 20 and everyone was well taken care of. I understand there should be service charge for a big group, but 20% is not the standard around Seattle - not that I would tip any less!

Wow....so glad we decided to try this place. Came on a Friday night with a group of four....TIP- Make a reservation!! This place is packed, and we did not have a reservation, so we ended up waiting over an hour for a table. (Ducked into C.S. Finnegan's next door for some excellent wine and beer while waiting!) Anyway, the wait was well worth it, because the food and ambiance were great. It is really dark, so be prepared to squint. Our waiter was friendly and helpful with suggestions. Between the four of us we ordered seven dishes...shared family style. Great progression of food throughout the night, as we finished one dish another was brought out.

    The Excellent:

    * Madeira saute and grilled halloumi cheese
    * Bacon lemon scallops with frizzled kale
    * Malbec demi glazed oxtail
    * Clemency (cocktail...so good)

    The Good:

    * Grilled octopus and fava beans cilantro pesto salad
    * Brie leek French country pesto flatbread
    * Seven spice shrimp

    The Okay:

    * Braised artichoke heart and greens

Perfect place for girl's nights, intimate setting... great for chit chat over a glass of wine, or two, or three! We always order the Broccoli Blasted, my fav little snack... goes great with wine too! I have even tried making it at home... the recipe is simple, delicious & healthy! Other than that, haven't really been there for dinner but I'm guessing the rest of their menu is pretty tasty.

The place is always packed, so I'd recommend making a reservation. They also have a room in the back that can be rented out for private parties, which is pretty handy dandy!

I was around today and I decided to give another chance to this place.

You still smell a very bad odor when you walk in.

Service is fast, although on Tuesday night there is no much traffic around.

Food is very inexpensive and the portions are very generous but the quality is just in the average. I personally  ate cold meat and both plates I ordered where lukewarm.

    Nothing special with this place

When I die, I want to be cremated with an order of pork belly and kimchi from Black Bottle. Incredible food at a very reasonable price. I found this place via Yelp and I was not disappointed, After a long day of traveling we walked in here on a Wednesday night with no reservation and we were immediately seated. We started with the oysters. Although I'd prefer them lightly steamed they were still delicious raw. Next up was seared tuna. though the portion was small, it was bursting with flavor. Next up was truly the best thing I have ever tasted, pork belly with kimchi. We raved about this for days, in fact we are still raving. So tender and delicious with just a bit of heat. For dessert we got a lemon curd tart with a lavender crust. Very tasty, I couldn't taste the lavender but my wife could.
I would have given Black Bottle 5 stars but the service was a bit spotty. Not terrible, just not exactly on point, as if they were overwhelmed even though it was not too busy. Still, don't let that deter you. This is definitely a spot you want to try.

Had a late dinner here, on a Monday night. One of the few couples in the joint. Good mix of hip-hop over the house system. The service was attentive and didn't act like they wanted us out so they could go home even though it was pretty late.

    Wine on tap! That's fun.

We got the oysters, wild boar short ribs (which tasted a lot like 'lil smokies oddly enough), seared yellowfin, and the grilled portobello on a bean salad. Everything was delicious and well sized. Tapas style small plates, but nothing too tiny.

I can't think of anything horrible to say about Black Bottle. I also can't think of anything great to say about Black Bottle. Food was good. The sangria was good. Service was good. Decor was good. Atmosphere was good. The problem is, with so many eating options in this city, do you really want to eat at a place that's great at nothing? I don't.

This is what happen when I don't review right after going somewhere.

    It gets fuzzy.

I don't think the delicious cocktails helped keep my memory intact, so it could be that to blame as well.

Other reviewers have covered most of the info you'd need but in short:

It's a bit disjointed in the way the food comes out, but don't worry though, just eat what they bring and relax, if yours comes and theirs doesn't, just share.

Order one of the flatbreads to share between at LEAST 2 but likely 3-4 people. They're big and take up lots of room on the table.

Order the broccoli, trust me, yes, it really is that good.

As you can see in the pics, the pork belly and kimchi are really more pork belly (not too much fat either) with the essence of kimchi, so don't let that scare you off, it's truly fantastic even if you're not a kimchi fan.

Even if you are starving, 2-3 plates between two of you should be enough.

Order the specialty cocktails, they're great and strong enough that I can't honestly tell you how good (or not good) dessert was.

Don't be concerned that you can't tell the waitstaff from the patrons.

Seriously, just relax, it's going to be a great night.

After some thought and deliberation over many tapas and small plate joints in the area, we settled on Black Bottle in Belltown for one of my bestie's birthday.

The ambiance is nice, but it can get really noisy so bring your outside voice!

Because of the size of our group we were able to sample a lot of different dishes  -- crispy fried chicken, boar ribs, chicken laab gai, hanger steak, pork belly and kimchi, the infamous broccoli blasted, prosciutto flatbread and chicken flatbread, and fried tofu and peanut sauce.

Upon arriving, I was most excited to try the broccoli blasted since everyone on Yelp (and beyond) raved about it.  I honestly didn't get the hype.  And I'm not sure most of us in the party did either.  It's basically burnt broccoli with a little oil, lemon, salt & pepper but the other flavors were hardly noticeable.

I do however, really like the flatbread, the hanger steak and the fried chicken.  The laab gai was decent but if you're expecting what you get at a Thai restaurant, you'll be disappointed.

Service was spotty, but luckily in larger groups you don't notice it as much.

I'd like to come back and size up the last half of the menu!

I had dinner here last night with my boyfriend and it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. It is definitely a popular place, but only took a few minutes to get seated.

The ambience was great ... not too loud, a little bit dark (but you could still see) and a nice atmosphere. The service is outstanding.

The food was amazing. It's sort of "tapas" style, but the portions are way too big for one person if you order more than one dish. My boyfriend and I shared three dishes and a dessert and were definitely happy and full by the time we left.

I will definitely be a returning customer, can't wait to try all of the other dishes on the menu :)

I went to Black Bottle this weekend with a friend and the food was really good!

We shared the smoked chicken and sun-dried cherry flat bread which was very sizable for $9 and the blasted broccoli for $8. The portions were very generous, especially for the price. Both dishes were superb.

The place was bustling and very noisy in the back room. I felt like we had to talk very loudly (almost yell) to hear each other across the table. It was also very hot in that room, not very good circulation back there.

The bar is very cute and the food is fantastic.

    Service was friendly and prompt.

I had the rising sun-rita drink which was made with sake, blood orange puree, and lime for $8. I thought it was okay. It was refreshing but I could barely taste any alcohol. Pretty much tasted like punch. I would stick to wine next time.

I look forward to returning. Don't miss the food!

Was in town for business and stumbled upon this place. The menu looked awesome so we gave it a shot. The place was pretty busy later at night which is usually a good sign.

Anyways, to cut to the chase... the food wasn't bad. The Ox Tail was quite good. Oh and they charged $2 for a couple little pieces of bread... but the reason this place gets 2 stars instead of a 3 or maybe even a 4 is because the waiter was an asshole. He had a totally condescending attitude and was being a total prick. I went outside to smoke and some other customer was ranting about the same guy and how he will never be back! He had a stupid little beanie on and was wearing a plaid flannel shirt. What a bitch.....

If you can put up with the bad service from that ass then give the food a shot...

Black Bottle is one of those restaurants that I have frequented for the past 4-5 years, yet I always forget it's there (it's tucked away on the corner of 1st Ave and Vine in north Belltown) until I drive or walk by it or like today ...when I saw a couple of friends review it here.

Black Bottle's concept is a wine gastropub with a various selection of tapas in four main categories - meats, seafood, veggies, and flatbread. Faves: the broccoli blasted (I liked this dish so much that I even tried to make it at home, but nowhere near as good. The broccoli is mixed with olive oil, salt, pepper, and lemon and then charred to deliciousness), the tender and juicy pork belly and kimchi, and the crispy fried chicken and collard greens. So-sos: the flatbreads. They are a little thick and too doughy for my taste. All of the waitstaff are excellent at recommending wines to complement your meal, but if you still aren't feeling wine, try one of their specialty cocktails or drafts.

The service is really solid, and the atmosphere makes for a good date spot or place to catch up with a couple of friends (I wouldn't bring a group more than 4 here). Black Bottle is cozy with low lit lighting with an average noise level so you can actually here your conversation.

I was so incredibly impressed with Black Bottle. This is totally what the 5 star review system is all about! Typically I shell out 4 stars for a place I really liked, but 5 only goes to places that surpass each and every expectation.

I will warn however that the more crowded this cozo spot gets, the slower the service. But being such a great hangout with such fabulous food and drinks, it wasn't terribly bothersome to take my time anyway.

A friend and I popped in for some food and drinks and after hearing such great things about Black Bottle, we made our way to Belltown to see for ourselves. There's loca beer on tap, a fabulous wine selection, and some creative cocktails to boot. The best part though? The food!

Some folks have told me Black Bottle was expensive... and perhaps they were comparing this spot to a place like List? Also in Belltown, List has insane happy hour prices. But that's because they have to sell food for cheap in order to sell it at all. I've had decent experiences there but nothing magical like Black Bottle. In fact, even though you'll pay $1-2 more per dish here, it's well worth it!

The wild boar ribs were crazy good and the portion was too much for just one person. Same with the broccoli blasted! This dish could easily feed three and came highly recommended by a friend. Good thing we got it too, it was delicious. In fact, it's by far the best broccoli dish I've ever had. And I love broccoli!

We also tried a number of other dishes but I'm quickly forgetting their names. Point is, you'll find plenty to order if you're a vegetarian, pescatarian or meat eater. I actually had a helluva time deciding what to eat because everything sounded amazing. 3-4 plates feed two easily but remember to save room for dessert! They're just as tasty as the shared plates and entrees.

Perfect definition of a gastropub - high end beer and food without being pretentious (thank you wikipedia). Perfect atmosphere for either a date night or a night out with friends.

The menu is more geared towards family style sharing/ everything is a la carte. You order the meats, seafood, veggies, and flatbreads all seperately. Everything I ordered  food wise was great - seven spice shrimp, smoked chicken and sundried cherries flatbread, and the BROCCOLI BLASTED. (In all CAPS for a good reason).

Anyone that goes here should get the Broccoli Blasted.

My husband and I have been waiting for ages to try out this restaurant. We finally decided to go there this friday...but...It was a real busy night, and there was a 45 minute wait for the table. So we gave our name and they asked us to wait outside for the table, as it was really crowded inside. After 35 minutes, when we went in, we found out that everyone who had come with us and after had been seated..We went to ask the employee but he was quite rude to us and they made us wait for another 25 minutes before giving us a table. At the table we decided to order the fried olives, the smoked chicken and dried cherries flatbread and the masala drumsticks. The food was quite good, but the waitress was another story. She just sort of slammed the food on the table, with no word or smile...And then they forgot half of our order...All in all, we just wished we had gone somewhere else in the meantime...

My friend chose this place, as I never would have thought to come here; it blends in with the hundreds of other places that line Belltown's streets. Thank goodness she did, because this place is awesome and a new fave of mine!

Though these dishes are absolutely big enough to share, my friend and I didn't share because she's a vegetarian and I make a point of eating non-soy protein (read: meat) at every meal. I ordered the chicken laab gai and the smoked chicken and dried cherry flatbread. Both were out-of-this-world outstanding! I ended up eating way too much because it was so good, when I really should have brought half of each dish home. Each was priced at $9 which I thought was exactly what they were worth given how much food there was. I also had a couple of draft beers which were pretty good- they were $5 each.

Service was good; they checked on us often, yet didn't pester us or linger trying to upsell, and they cleared our dishes without interrupting the flow of the conversation my friend and I were carrying on. I took one star away because it was really dark in there, which means I can't bring my parents when they visit because they won't be able to read the menu or see my face across the table. The bathroom is also incredibly small which was uncomfortable when five women tried to squeeze in there with me. Lastly, even though we had a reservation (recommended), our table wasn't ready when we arrived a few minutes after the time we scheduled for. It took another ten minutes or so for them to kick out the patrons from our table, which I thought was rude-- for the patrons they kicked out. I would hate to be them after having spent so much money at a place. Seems they could have just left a table empty for us, but I don't know how they operate, so I'll leave that up to them. All I'll say is if I get kicked out the next time I go back after dropping over $40 on a meal, I will rant about it on Yelp! LOL.

This place is definitely a place to check out if you're in Belltown. You won't be sorry.

First off, I favor the bartenders to the wait staff on the last couple visits. If you bring a large party, be prepared to chase your service friends down.

You must try the ox tail, the port selection, the martinis and the wild boar. The flavors rarely fail here - only once did I get something insanely bitter with endive that had a not-so-fresh moment, but it was replaced after a brief hunt for a missing server.

Maybe it's the faucets, or the fact it's always clean (rare in Belltown establishments)...but it's impressive when I don't choose to hold it for fear of water closet nightmares. So yeah, I love the bathroom here.

Black bottle is reliable, a great stand by when friends stop in from out of town on any given night of the week.

Food is really great and just different enough - exactly what you would hope for for a cool gastropub. Service is just OK. Not so bad I wouldn't go there, but nothing to write home about. Once or twice they've completely forgotten a dish we've ordered, but the food is good enough (and decently priced enough) that we'll keep going back.

Oxtail, flat bread, scallops, braised artichoke salad and fried chicken are all really excellent.

This was an incredible find! Was just driving around looking for parking & noticed this corner restaurant. It looked dark from the outside but crazy packed on the inside!

We walked in and host told us there was an hour and 45 minute wait for a table for 2. Almost 2 hours!?
    No thanks.

Then we saw 2 bar seats opened up & we were told that they were first come first served. Jackpot!

We got to know the bartender, JP. He was super helpful & nice. Gave us ton of recommendations for places to eat in Seattle & Vancouver. (I was going there the next day).

We ordered 3 small plates. Ceviche & tortilla chips were refreshing. Pork belly with kimchi was out of this world! It was super tender & sweet with a kimchi kick! Blasted broccoli was recommended but i thought it was just ok. However this dish is not small! Lots & lots of broccoli!! Seasonal sangria was good.

I definitely would come back if I return to Seattle. It's a local spot. Great for small groups. Make reservations. However I think the bar seats are the best. It can get really loud in there.

    Will be back!

Really need to be able to separate the difference between the food, atmosphere and service here.  The latter is the only thing holding this review down.

One of the more comfortable restaurants in town that has a good vibe but still allows you to have conversations with your group.  However the service in my visits here is always off.  I've never been in food service but i would think when a table has no drinks and no food on it, with my tips based largely on what diners consume, that i might want to stop and see what they want.  Definitely room for better service but the reason to come back despite the dice roll on service is the food.  When you have the attention of your server they are phenomenal so it may be an issue of simply being understaffed.

The kitchen at this place has it together even if the people you see out front don't.  Blasted broccoli is amazing my only issue is that you can't get a half order.  I like broccoli but you need four people to even attempt to eat this dish with anything else.  Every flat bread i've had here has been good but the real reason to order them is to soak up sauces from other dishes.  The star of the menu to me is the malbec demi-glazed oxtail.  So tender you only need your fork.  The savory reduction of a sauce i would lick of the plate if it wasn't for the roomful of diners around the restaurant.

All in all solid but better service would easily take this place to four star.  If you've never been here, happy hour is a great idea as they have smaller portions of a number of items on the full menu.  Wine menu is tremendous as well.

Followed the Yelp recommendations down to a tee.

Cerviche. Pork belly Kimchi skewers. Blasted broccoli. Chicken cherry flatbread
And a couple of lovely pints of Freemont harvest ale.

Pure gluttony minus the need for the post pig-out garden hose wash down.
    What a wonderful evening.

I ate the rest of the flat-breads and broccoli in my lap driving to the border the next morning. Nothing to declare here~!

This place had extraordinary food and good service at a great price. It was an excellent recommendation from the cute girls from Free People. The perfect food experience for out of towners. Well done & thank you!

    Potential, potential, potential...

That is all I can really think of when I think of Black Bottle. There is a lot of good here certainly, but there is also a lot of room for improvement here as well.

I should mention our group was a little chaotic -- the reservation was made for 12 and I think we ended up squeezing 16 people in at our table. I can understand a server's annoyance at this, but to have it so readily apparent in their attitude and face really turned me off. She was however lovely enough to ask up front if the check were to be split and I appreciated that considering we never would have gotten out of there if we tried figuring out finances after the fact.

Drinks were ordered and were slow coming. The price on beer was decent though and I was happy to see Fremont Brewing as their seasonal rotating tap. Food orders were then placed and we waited... and waited...and waited.  Parts of orders came out, parts didn't. I had ordered the oxtail and broccoli to share and I never got my broccoli. I know other members of the table had to remind the waitress several times of the food they ordered which either didn't come or came extremely late. The oxtail I had however really quite good and tender. I stole nibbles of fried chicken, beats, flatbread, and then help polish off another diners plate of broccoli (since he DID get his, and the portions on the veg here are insanely large).

Confusion ensued a bit when checks came. I had to make sure they took my broccoli was taken off -- and other member of the party didn't get their checks until I had already closed out and was ready to walk out the door.

Overall: Good food, cute & cozy accommodations,  large veg portions, spacey to annoyed service which then leads to far too much table confusion and annoyance of the diners themselves.  For the prices you are paying (for rather small plates) I feel like BB needs to step up their game to make the rest of the experience worth it.

Great food, great portion, great drinks, great price, great service.  The flatbread is a must, and the sangria is baller!  The waitstaff seated us right away, made awesome suggestions, and instructed us on how to order the right amount of food.  We really got a bang for our buck here!

All of the dishes were superb:
Arugula, tomato, and basil pesto flatbread.
Potatoes with bruschetta wrapped around them with vinaigrette.
Lamb skewers with hummus, tsatziki, and olives/veggie salad.
Plus the wine and sangria, we made it out at $50 even (not including tax and tip).

    A+, Black Bottle.

A great ambiance, but only so so food.

Went last night with a party of 3. We all loved the interior and the great big space.
Wine recommend was perfect, now onto the food...
Not as good as we hoped.
We had 7 different dishes and they were all just ok.
We didn't try the flatbread or broccoli blasted, which might have been our mistake...though we did have the oxtail, bison ribs (too smoky/salty), ceviche (looked and tasted like it had been in a fridge for a couple of days too many), caprese salad (unimpressive, soggy tomatoes), pork tenderloin (weird texture and kind of bland), lamb (ok) and the roasted veggies - which were actually the very best part, they were delicious!

Anyhow, I hope you have a better time, but just had to let some of you know that I don't think this place is 5 star worthy.

One of my favorite eateries downtown. Not only a great date spot, but a great place for medium sized groups. I've been to numerous parties here and the staff always do what they can to accomadate your group. Be sure to make a reservation.

The food is great as well. I always order the boar ribs-which are out of this world, as well as their staple, the blasted broccoli.

Simply put, this place is a must! The menu is inspired, and the cocktails change up every season, so there is always something new to try (and they'll still make your old favorites). Every single item on the menu is devine, crafted with care daily from fresh and local ingredients. You will not go wrong by coming here, the service, the lighting, the simple yet tasteful decor. People of all ages, and of all kinds eat here. This is a great date spot. You can wear jeans, or be fancy. This place is amazing, and shame on you if you don't try it. You're the one missing out. My favorites on the menu include wild boar ribs, hummus and sumac, chicken and cherry flatbread, blasted broccoli, and bacon lemon scallops. Also quite popular is the oxtail. Please eat here, it shall not disappoint.

4 of us went on a Thursday night and had made reservations in advance. Great looking place. They got us seated right away and took our drink orders. They had a great drink selection with good prices.

The food was great! I was pleasantly surprised by the broccoli blasted, ordered it because of the reviews. We also had two different flatbreads, both amazing (one was the sun-dried tomato and the other tomato basil pesto) and it came out right away. We also ordered the duck confit and the masala chicken drums which took a while to get out. Granted the night looked busy. But we got all our other food very quickly, finished, and sat there for over 30 minutes for the chicken. This prompted our second order of flatbread.

The service ... was a little lacking. I don't know if she was just having a bad day or what. We were super nice about the delay of the chicken and she came by twice to assure us it was coming. She was pleasant enough with a little attitude, but when we asked her to separate our check, there were 4 of us, it pushed her over the edge. She was talking about us to the other wait staff and they would glare and shake their heads in our direction. I felt as if we committed the unthinkable ... don't dare ask for them to separate your check. I'll go back for the food, but next time as a courtesy I'll tell them how to separate in advance and maybe they will be more obliging. We will see.
