Fun times there... For sure!!
Had such a great meal that I bought both cooks a beer for after work!!
If you like food and watching it getting made try to sit near the kitchen.... -

Finally had a chance to go here after thinking about it for the past eight years (yeah, I'm slow). My dining partner and I enjoyed the duck, the mussels (deliciously swimming in a coconut curry broth), and the lamb sirloin, which was perfectly done. Upon being seated we were presented with complimentary mini-mugs of carrot ginger soup, which was richly spiced and yummy!
Seating-wise we were lucky to go at 5:30 and got a little nook right by the window :) -

I have been to Bin on several occasions, but on the most recent visit I think we hit an off night.
We were greeted by a hasty server who didn't seem to have he time to tell us our seating options. She told us that it would be about 30 minutes for a table for 4 and that there were seats along the wall in the back. And then she walked away, leaving us at the front. We sat ourselves along the back, right outside the bathrooms, and it's an awkward arrangement, constantly being nudged by walkers-by. I'd recommend this area for pairs of smaller people only. The restaurant was busy, but without anyone waiting. Still, our server seemed too busy to give us much attention, was impatient when taking our order, and only took two orders at a time before walking away each time. I had to remind someone else of my drink which didn't show up. Every restaurant as an off night, but Bin seemed to have a lot wrong this time. Half the menu was not available which left me with very few options.
For those who think that tapas parlour means sharing plates that are smaller and lower priced, this is not the case. Most plates are around $17 and are larger that what you'd expect from a snacking menu. Without much of the already limited menu available, choices were slim and I opted not to order food and picked from others' plates. The combination of sold-out and grumpy server didn't make for a memorable evening. -

Busy little place, nicely prepared and presented food. The prices are not too bad, just a tad on the steep side. The service was good and friendly. We found the hummus very lacking in flavour but the caesar salad and the duck were very good.
There is a bar table that runs the length of the hallway to the bathrooms, we would not have enjoyed sitting there...it is very dark and you are literally right in front of the bathroom. The rest of the seating is extremely cozy ie: you are in elbow distance of your fellow diners but it seems to work.
Overall it was quite good, but probably not a place I would go back to often - there is nothing that really stands out from other great places. -

I always think of this place as a great first date place, as it's small and very intimate, but I've been here for girls nights too and every time has been great.
Great food and great service - it's one of my go-to places when I want something not too fancy and not too low-key.
Shoestring Fries with Balsamic Reduction, Beef Wellington and the Duck are all super yummy. -

Loved it!! Wish the wine menu was better...if that's the only problem, you better get your touchy over there and fast!!

Brought some friends here from out of town last week. Had a fantastic time. Great service, the food once again was DELICIOUS. Great wine selection. I just wanted to reinforce how much I love this place as long as I can get a seat and the service is friendly and great, which it was this time.

WOW- a wonderful dinner. Great food, great service and a nice space.
A really fun menu, the duck was especially good. The wine list is interesting and not overpriced. We were lucky to get a table on a night when the restaurant was full but not overwhelmed which I am sure helped with our experience. -

I have got to say I haven't been to a restaurant this good in Vancouver in a long time. We stopped in for dinner and shared a bottle of wine (a really nice white for $35 which we both thought was very reasonable), spot prawn risotto, duck breast and ahi tuna as well as the beet salad and it came to just under $100.
Even though the risotto and duck breast took about 20-30 min to cook it wasn't a problem at all, we started with the golden beet salad and wine and then enjoyed them as they came. Each of the dishes was a really good combination of fresh, rich ingredients. Nothing was too saucy or rich, even the risotto (which is often too rich). The duck and tuna were perfectly done and I highly, highly recommend them.
Our server was very friendly and filled us in on the items, changes to the menu and wine list. We got there right when it opened so we snagged a window seat and it was a lovely early supper.
Considering I grew up in Vancouver I'm shocked I haven't eaten here before and I strongly suggest heading in if you haven't :) -

The food was exceptional.Quite creative and presented imaginatively.
But the pace of delivering dishes on a Saturday night- slowww. And this was after 9:00.
Would be 5 stars if not for slowness. -

Delicious food, and a fantastic date/solo/pairs experience. Restaurant is small and bustling so I wouldn't recommend bringing a group.
Many superb dishes well-suited to sharing, if you enjoy a variety, like I do.
Quite a unique vibe; energetic attitude and eclectic decor. A Davie Street gem! -

My boyfriend and I have not stopped talking about this place since we went in Spring 09.
We ordered about 5-6 items. I can't remember any specific items other than the Navajo Fry Bread (OMG). But I do remember swooning over every bite of everything we got.
Also, we sat at the "kitchen counter" where we could watch the chef prepare the gorgeous gourmet dishes, which kept us entertained while waiting for our order(s).
We can't wait to get back up to Vancouver so we can dine at Bin again.Listed in: Tapas

I love this place. Cozy, intimate feeling. Definitely the best Risotto I have ever had, lovely service as well. Wine selection is pretty decent too.
The only drawback is maybe the waiting time for the dishes to come out of the kitchen, but I guess the risotto takes a bit longer than other plates to prepare.
It is my favorite place in town for sure. -

One of my regular places in the 'hood' is Bin 941. This Tapas Bar is a great spot for either a quick bite with a good glass of wine but also suitable for a date. The later it get's the higher the noise level rises as well... this place can get *packed* and personally I think the prime seats are behind the window, 'The Aquarium' so to say. Max I would go with like 4 people to make sure you find a seat.
My favorite dishes are the steamed Mussels and the Navajo Fry Bread. YUM! They also have a bunch of other delicious goodies on the menu and also a very reasonable prices wine list.
There is a lot of street parking around, though by now I prefer to walk up from my place in YT as it makes things much easier.
Love this place! Enjoy for yourself...!

Best Beef Welington in town!
Had dinner here last night and can I just say WOW! Perfectly cooked Beef Wellington on a bed of creamy mash potatoes with savoury gravy. Hands down the best I've had any where in Vancouver. Paired with a glass of Malbec and I'm in Heaven.

Hands down, one of my favorite restaurants. Last night was my 6th visit to Bin 941; delivering a consistently great experience 6 straight times is worthy of a review from this patron!
The dishes are creative with excellent flavors and well presented. Over the years its nice to see a couple of items stick to the menu: the beef tenderloin wellington is awesome, definitely a favorite; the cinnamon flank steak is a must-try; and last night's surprise, the smoked black cod, still lingers in my mind (in a good way)!
Admittedly tight quarters in this restaurant, but what do you expect if ties a great restaurant and everyone wants in at the same time as you?? If you aren't after creative food or on a tight budget, you aren't going to be happy here... For everyone else, give it a shot - you wont be disappointed. (make sure to talk to your server about the wine - they are very knowledgeable about what's pouring and can make sure you choose the right one for your dishes) -

Bin will always hold a special place in my heart, as it was the first real "foodie" restaurant I started frequenting, back when I was in my late teens. My mum and her gay Davie St pals made this their Friday night hangout, and I would end up popping by when in the neighbourhood.
I still love it.
Interesting, innovative fusion tapas fills the menu, and I like that they change it up while keeping the old favourites on board. When I used to eat meat, the Wellington style beef tenderloin (with a slightly smoky, fruity sauce I could drink by the bottle) and the duck breast were my go-to dishes (and I will admit I still do dream about them...) For fish-only peeps like me, the prawn and scallop tapas dish (with big luscious roe on top) and the Thai-flavoured halibut are perfectly cooked, interesting - and delicious!
I find 3 plates plus some maybe some frites or navajo fry bread are enough to share between 2 people - along with a great bottle of red, of course!
The space itself is a shoebox, and you may have to wait - but it is worth it! A great spot for a date, double date or hangout with a few pals. Or your mum and her gay friends... :)Listed in: My Very Favourites

Dining here cramped our style. We have wanted to eat here for the longest time and our chance came today when 3 of us (my husband and I and our 20 year old daughter) walked by at 5pm and decided to go in (as there were empty tables, a rarity for this place). We were seated at a postage-stamp sized table meant for 2, with an additional chair pulled up on the side (my husband called it the jumper seat).
Although the vibe is funky, we didn't find our dining experience to be very comfortable. In fact, my daughter's portion of mussels hit the floor, completely a side effect of the cramped table. Although the mess was cleaned up quickly, there was certainly no offer to replace the lost food. The food we ordered was OK (mussels, frites, shortrib, beets) but honestly, not stand the out amazing that we had expected. My daughter requested a side of Dijon mustard to dip her frites in (go figure) and we got a firm no. Ketchup? (she asked, foolishly). Not in OUR kitchen, was the server's reply. She then she made the cardinal error of all time: a request for a Diet Coke. Sorry, we don't carry that, was the response. All of this made us feel low class for asking.
We love food and restaurants and eat out frequently in our wonderful city and when we travel. This experience left us flat. We love Davie street dining but this place won't be on our list for the future. -

The food here is absolutely divine!
Having said that this is not a restaurant to go to with people you don't like or if you have personal space issues because you will be sitting on each other and other patrons because this place is so tiny and cramped. If you are modelesque you should have no problems maneuvering or sitting comfortably, if on the other hand you are a full bodied person you will find it a tight squeeze but trust me the food is worth it!
Expect to wait for a seat, we got lucky and were seated relatively quickly but we saw others that waited for close to an hour.
Our waitress was wonderful and sweet, the hostess was the complete opposite unless you knew her then she appeared to be a lot nicer.
The food is definitely why you should come here. Just know all this other stuff first so you aren't pissed when you arrive and then you don't enjoy the food.
We had the Navjo fry bread and Hummus, very delicious, the duck, fantastic, the Ahi Tuna, perfect, the Beef Wellington, beautifully cooked and the potato tart served with it was excellent. We followed our dinner up with the Cheesecake, which was insanely delicious and the Chocolate & Bailey's Creme Brulee, also fantastic but paled in comparison to the cheesecake. -

We were sat at the small table by the window which was perfect as I love to people watch.
Unfortunately the bar did not contain any liquor so pre-meal cocktails were a no :(
Food was nice. I had the white chocolate cheesecake for dessert which was amazing!
Service was average. -

Let me start off by saying that the food was phenomenal. We had the flank stake, the tenderloin, the duck, the risotto.. it was all superb.
The reason they only get 3 stars if for 3 pretty important failings.
First was the service from one of the hostesses. Our waitress was lovely, despite having brought us the wrong dessert, but the hostess who told us to wait in the bar was actually just downright rude. Not only did she act like she was doing us a favour by taking our drink orders, but she actually turned and walked away mid conversation. She clearly had a chip on her shoulder or was having a bad day - I just don't think it was appropriate behaviour and had there been a comment card, I certainly would have shared my thoughts.
The restaurant only seats 32. And not comfortably by any means. 4 of us were squished into a booth.. only one side of the booth, so we were all sitting side by side to eachother. No one else in the restaurant looked like they were seated comfortably or had enough room to meet the conventions of personal space.
And lastly, the prices. Tapas are meant to be small little plates that you share.. you order several and share. At $17/plate, you certainly do not want to order several. Yes, they were great. The food was amazing, that's not the point; the point is that if you are billing yourself as a tapas bar, then you should serve tapas, and serve them at tapas prices, not 'mini entrees' at 'fine dining' prices.
I'd go there again if I was feeling particularly pretentious and harbouring an intense desire to be labelled a hipster; but having been there 3 times now, I think it's time to bin it. ((see what I did there?)) -
Review from Misty S.
The Navajo bread is still to DIE for! I swear I could eat this all day long. The waitress this visit was a bit snotty in a very settle way, but that in no way took away from how incredible the food was. All the main dishes are priced the same at $17 so that makes it easy to split the bill. If you're a gentleman, you'd foot the bill for the lady, though ;)

Review from Will W.
Stopped in for a bite to find a small, narrow venue that is very moody and dark, with a weird layout where the waiting area is in the back by the restrooms (washrooms).
Navajo bread sounds weird but was sooo good! It's basically a fried bread with a little spice...I could've skipped the optional salsa. Beef wellington was very good but the sauce was salty. The halibit was awfully dry on a bed of way salty vegetable...
Good time, good wait staff, but there is better. -

Everything here was delicious! We tried the lamb, mussels, halibut, and the mussels. We loved all of them, especially the mussels with a spicy garlic tomato broth.

This place has great service and food. The duck and goat cheese salsa are amazing, the range of reductions and culinary methods is impressive. A bit crowded, but expected. Had some of the best desert of my life here, the chocolate tort. This place really delivers, and watching the chef work is an art form. The waitress was always on cue and never too much.

This place is wonderful. Sure it's loud but go for the food and the atmosphere.
I've eaten quite often here and I have to say this venue has been more consistent in the quality and presentation of their food than their sister restaurant Bin 942. I will say Bin 942 is a slight bit bigger.
Now you must try their Navajo fry bread, It is absolutely delicious and come to your table piping hot! I've even had 2 orders of this because I can't get enough. I have no problem with carbs. I would suggest ordering the Goat cheese house dried tomato salsa with navajo fry bread. An unbeatable original.
I also recommend their East west Crab Cakes, burnt orange chipotle sauce, charred baby bok choy, cucumber salsa, tobiko
Another staple in their menu is the Angus Beef Tenderloin phyllo wellington, Pecorino romano, portabello, chive roast garlic whipped potato, grainy mustard marsala pan jus. The chef recommends it be cooked at medium rare. This is my favourite main.
This isn't the place to go with a large entourage. If you try that move you won't get it but you would have luck if you come when they just open. I've rarely gone in and not had to wait.
It's hard to have a meaningful conversation or a romantic date here so keep that in mind. Come to enjoy some food, alcohol and general merriment. -

North Vancouver, BC
My wife and I visit Vancouver a couple times each year. Bin 941 has be a been one of our "must visit" restaurants since 1998 or so. The menu was always evolving and quite inspiring and the service always made us feel "looked after". Over the past few years the menu has become more staid and the service, while good, has lost energy. No problem, the food is STILL delicious. That being said...
We walked into Bin 941 at 6:30pm and were immediately met by one of the three servers. She immediately told us that it would be at least an hour for a table. No problem as we prefer to sit at the bar anyway (the bar and all the seating along the back wall were vacant). The server said "fine" and walked away. So we sat.....and we sat....and we sat. No greeting or eye contact from the bartender who was polishing wine glasses at a snail's pace. No menus. No nothing....just sat watching her polish glasses two feet away from us..... So, what does one do when they are being ignored. You start to look around. Some new artwork (nice). Fairly fresh paint (glad they have been maintaining). Oh look they turned the little two-top in the window into a larger table (cute!). The tables were all full and a lot of the guests were just sitting looking around, no food on most of the tables. Dirty dishes on another table. Unbussed plates in front of other guests. One server WAS attending to the guests at a 6-top while the other server was just standing doing nothing. The bartender, well, she just carried on with her glass polishing.
Needless to say, after 15 minutes, we left.
Will we return? We are not sure. It is always so disappointing when a favorite restaurant becomes so hip and busy that they no longer feel the need to evolve; when the servers are too cool to look after their guests.
Good luck Bin 941 it was nice knowing you. -

I agree with most of what has been said about Bin 941. It is a great little spot with some really innovative cooking. Gord Martin, a former punk singer, who opened this place and then followed up with Bin 942 as well as local favourite Go Fish has had a lot of influence on the Vancouver restaurant scene. Many people say that he is the person responsible for the move towards small-plate dining in Vancouver - which has caught on everywhere around town.
Before launching the Bins and Go Fish his early culinary career was flipping burgers at the PNE and then managing a KFC! He then trained as a classical French chef at Dubrulle Culinary School and went on to work at Raincity Grill, Century Grill, Allegro Café, and the Wedgewood Hotel.
The Bins have spawned many other restaurants around town too including veterans of the Bins going on to open Lolita's South of the Border Cantina, Me & Julio, Cobre, and a few others.
So how's that for random facts of the day?
Tip: Come very early or very late as they don't take reservations, but do stay open quite late.
Tip: Take a seat at the Chef's bar to watch them prepare everything, and also chat with the chefs about the food that evening. It can make a really different experience. -

This is a great place to go for a small gathering or a romantic date (up to 4 people) otherwise it can be hard to get a seat. But the atmosphere is worth it.
The service is great with the servers really knowing their wine list. They are also a wealth of information for wine/food pairings.
I'd recommend the bison, ahi tuna and najavo bread. Everything comes as tapas so be ready to share. -
Review from Thu N.
North York, ON
I've kept this place as a once a year for special occasions or else I'd be poor :) But gosh, we went here again last weekend and the food, drinks, service was as solid as it was 4 years ago. I love the ambiance, I love where they sit you in the back with a bottle of a wine waiting for a table, I love the table right by the window - nice and cozy where you can take glimpses of people on Davie walking by but know that you're in a completely different world. I love the service too - they really know their menu and wine list inside out.
My favourites on the menu are the fries and the navajo bread with hummus. For our mains we tried the salmon (i LOVED the salmon skin chips - that's very creative), the duck, the lamb and beets. The dessert was deadly with cheesecake and an Adult Hot Chocolate that was heavily spiked. Everytime I leave Bin941 (I think it's 6 times now) it's more than 2 hours later, I'm happily stuffed with wine and a fun food adventure, and I look for every excuse to go back to do it all over again!
Come early to avoid the lineup and to get your pick of the window booth. -
Review from Kim L.
Vancouver, BC
I love coming here to unwind....and Friday at 5pm is my favorite. The music is always chill, the service friendly, and the wine resonably priced. Get there when it opens so you can select the best table (when facing the entrance door, the window booth on your left) for people watching, and enjoying the changing colors outside as the sunsets (preferrably with a date). This is a cozy restaurant, so even though the music is pumping, this booth seat doesn't sacrifice your ability to hear your companion since you're sitting right next to him/her. *wink, wink*
I always get one of their variations on mussels ($15--which is a great deal), and choose one or a few items off their $5 special list. Again, this is a tapas bar, so I don't tend to overload on food. Although, I've tried entrees there, I really just come here for a bottle of wine and to eat with foods that I can pick up with my fingers. Once in awhile, it's healthy to get in tune with the food I enjoy....such as tearing through their navajo bread and watching it stretch, or dipping foccacia in the mussel broth...num num num... -

Good: The dishes were great, atmosphere was lively but not over the top. The coconut crumb crusted mascarpone is dangerously delicious.
Not-so-good: Service was lackadaisical, seating was remarkably cramped, and it was a hair on the expensive side.
I'd definitely go again. The real shame is that there isn't a patio, I feel like it would be really amazing. -
Review from Janice F.
Walked in here at 6:30 pm on a Monday night - thankfully, there were two tiny tables available. In one of my more insane moments I have waited 45 minutes for a table at this place. Sitting at the back of the restaurant along it's 'waiting' bar is no fun - with many, many people squeezing by you enroute to the washroom. I think I've managed once to get one of the two coveted velvet booths - by arriving at 6 pm.
But beyond the acoustics and guaranteed cramped quarters - I do enjoy the food, this place consistently delivers beautifully presented, thoughtful dishes. The Beef Tenderloin Wellington with portobello and romano was our favourite dish of the night. They had replaced the mushroom risotto with a side stripe shrimp risotto on the menu (!) but will be bringing it back onto the menu by next week, according to the waitress. I hope they bring it back to the Tongue Teaser size because the $16 sized shrimp risotto was a bit too much for us - portion and tastewise. The Gathered Greens with pear and gorgonzola is presented in alternating layers of purple and green leaves, a dramatic look that elicited a "Wow, what's that?!" from the table beside us. Also ordered a gorgonzola fresh pesto bruschetta, which was a bit too soggy and heavy on the balsamic vinegar for my tastes.
Because it's so loud, you can't really hear the conversations beside you and vice versa (I hope) but I can't say it's the most comfortable place for me to have a meal. A good place to impress an out-of-towner couple for some small eats & a glass of wine. -
Review from James E.
I wanted a dinner where we could sit back, relax, and take our time eating. We arrived early enough to snag a table with a window providing a Northwest view, not soon after our arrival did the place quickly fill to capacity.
The menu is suitable for vegetarians, but why anyone would order the portobello mushroom dish for $16 is beyond me. Keep your eyes toward the bottom of the menu and order several tapas to share. Two days later and the taste of Gorgonzola with pear lingers in my mind. And the Navajo fry bread with kalamata olive hummus with a balsamic reduction? Heaven.
Not being from Canada, I was all about trying the wines from BC. The Quails Gate Old Vines Foch was velvet in a glass. I heartily recommend a glass of this red with the flourless chocolate torte. -

Rather than getting annoyed by the cramped atmosphere I'd rather describe it positively as cozy. There isn't' a lot of room but a few wines allows one to bask in the positive energy of their close neighbours. Excellent selection of Reds, could have one or two more syrah's (not shiraz!) though. The food is very rich, but in lovely dainty portions. I bet the rich classless pretentious crowd loves this place, but the truth is it will please the more reasonable patron as well. Good music, pretty genuine waitresses, lovely wine and great food. Put it all together and what do you get?
I'll give it 5 stars despite the painful memories of my ex-girlfriend attached to this place, must be good! -

I used to come here all the time but i kind of stopped. I have no idea why because it's an awesome tiny little place perfect for a romantic date or catch up with friends.
I think it got to busy and i don't like waiting in lines, so be prepared. I have gone later and sat at the bar and been spoiled by tasting there wines by the glass and i never thought i would say this about any place.. but they have amazing wines by the glass. I think they even win awards for it?!
Be prepared to share, this is a tapas place. All i can remember is the navajo fry bread is to die for! French fries with basilamic. YUM. -

OK well the Bingria was amazing (sangria) and hit the spot.
Otherwise the constant knocking into my chair, it being 100 degrees in there, and the people hovering over my food just didn't make the experience worthwhile. If you can deal with being a sardine, then it's definitely a great place to be. -

Couldn't be happier to have found this gem, which is easy to miss with its narrow facade. If you are lucky enough to score a table right away, get ready for some fantastic dishes, portioned perfectly for 2 to share a nice variety. Everything I have tried here is delish, service is super friendly and you'll always find a fun glass or two of wine to try.

I never really understood the hype....to me Bin looked small and cramped...who wants to go on a romantic date and half to practically sit on your neighbors lap? I will admit the tiny, dark space does have an appeal...so I finally gave in and went to dine...
It was relatively quiet which was good...if you have seen the line ups you know it can get busy...my dinning partner and I were sat in the window..Davie is always the best place to people watch...and although cramped it was kinda cozy...
The food...the food was good....very creative tapas dishes...typical pretentious Vancouver fare...small little plates that cost WAY too much...but were prepared with thought and care.....
I did enjoy the food...it was not enough to fill us up..it could be if money was no option and you order tons of dishes...but when pinching pennies and in the mood to really eat..I wouldn't suggest Bin.....we actually stopped at KFC on the way home 'cause we were still hungry....
