Ever since Sandwich Box closed in the summer, Big Stan's has reigned supreme as the best lunch option in the Queen Street marketplace. They also happen to serve one of my favourite veggie burgers in the city - it's deceptively good and is filled with peppery herbs and a touch of parsley. Make sure you get their signature barbeque sauce as a topping as well as cheese. Their sweet potato fries are really good to go with the burger, too!

    Cash only.

These guys must take the summer off because I've only seen their stand open when I returned in the autumn. It appears that everyone seems to miss them, too, considering it was the only counter in the Queen Street food hall that had any sort of activity going on.

The meat is tasty, herby, garlicky, and comes with a nice choice of toppings, including pre-sautéed mushrooms and peppers. However, if you're looking for a big meaty burger, it falls a little short. The bun, too, was a little too dry for my liking... kind of like the rolls you get in chain store bakery bins.

Still, it makes a good replacement for McDonald's, and deserves a red ribbon for offering freshly fried sweet potato fries. Makes a nice snack for the rest of your Queen West walk. Yes, please!

Although I am vegan I'm not too keen on veggie burgers but after a year of working across the Queen St. marketplace, I decided to try out Big Stan's veggie burger.

I was a immediately shocked to learn that they use egg buns.  Boooo.  Why would you offer a veggie burger with an egg bun?  You're already slashing your veggie burger customers in half that way.  Fine, hold the bun, I say.   I mean I had heard such good things about Big Stan's that I just had to try it anyway, but mark my words, I was already less than impressed.

Then I was shocked for a second time.  Although bunless, it was the most juicy veggie burger I had ever tasted.  Most veggie burgers are kind of dry if not void of flavour.  Not Big Stan's.  I almost felt guilty eating it, it was so delicious.

If you're a vegetarian and have yet to walk over to Big Stan's then you're missing out.

Although a big fan of the burger itself, the fact that they only have egg buns stops me from going back.  Come on Stan, get with the vegan program.  I swear, if they ever decide to offer vegan-friendly buns, I would suddenly increase my v-burger consumption by 80%.
