Love their milkshakes!! The girl let me mix a bunch of different ice creams together to come up with the Frankenstein's monster of milkshakes, which I thought was pretty cool. Kind of expensive, but I suppose that's the trend for these types of places so it wasn't unexpected.
I managed to talk myself out of buying a cupcake too, but I'm sure I'll be back to try them! -

I had walked past Big City many a time, curious about this new cupcake joint in time. So many, in fact, that it's not so new anymore. But after a healthy of lunch of only salad, I was going crazy for a calorie indulgence. Walking through City Centre Mall, I went, "Aha!" I remembered Big C and their sweet selection of mini-cakes.
There are a ton of great flavours to choose from. I had a really hard time deciding, and I still want to go back for the intense chocolate ganache, the one with cheesecake in the centre, and any of them that included coconut as an ingredient. Eventually I went with the strawberry cake topped with cream cheese icing.
The icing was 5/5. A dream of rich, cream cheese-y flavour. Super tasty and moist and the perfect amount of sweetness, I would have eaten it straight out of the piping bag. But what else is new?
The cake is a 3/5. The flavour was good, but it definitely wasn't as moist as it could have been.
I'm intrigued and have decided that I must investigate further on this urgent cupcake matter. I'll report back from the field when I have further flavour information. -

Wow these cupcakes are amazing!! I tried this place with a groupon and they were amazing. This may not always be my first choice but if I'm in city centre I will start making this a stop.

Big City Cupcakes made such beautiful presentations of their cupcakes that it's almost too good to eat. Toppings and flavors was wonderful, -like the New York Cheese Cake and the Chocolate Truffle. The cake sponge wasn't as moist as I would like it. Other than cupcakes, there was also ice cream and milk shakes. I tried both the cookie dough and cookie n cream milkshake, it wasn't thick enough to my liking, and for some reason each time i took a sip, i kept thinking it would be even better if it had some vodka in it.

I came here to pick up some cupcakes for an impromptu study session with my boyfriend at NAIT. They looked really nice, but looks are deceiving. The cake was dry as a bone, and the icing had hardened into a crusty mess. It was pretty unpalatable alone, but tasty dipped in Timmie's french vanilla. I'm tempted to try it again as the other reviews are fairly positive, and the flavours were there. However, the dry dry cake and high price are deterring me.

I've been on a quest. A quest for delicious cupcakes. And, folks, that quest may be over.
I've been hopping around Edmonton lately trying to find a decent cupcake joint. I don't really understand where the trend came from, but so far, I haven't been very impressed. I bake a lot at home, and found that every cupcake place I'd been to used cheap, flavorless ingredients (read: a LOT of shortening) and the cupcakes that emerged were, put plainly, pretty gross.
Big City Cupcakes, however, does not fall into that category. You can tell their ingredients are quality. Their chocolate cupcakes actually taste rich and chocolaty. Their icing is sweet but not too sweet, and flavorful in the right ways. Their cream cheese icing actually tastes like cream cheese icing and not shortening!! Both my boyfriend and I really enjoyed our cupcakes there, and we both agreed that Big City Cupcakes was miles better than the other places we've tried.
Price wise, they are actually pretty fair in my opinion. Their cupcakes are about 50 cents more than competitors, but the difference in quality spans orders of magnitude. A filled cupcake, their most expensive variety, will cost you four bucks and change. Considering that the size and quality of these cupcakes are akin to something you'd pay seven to eight dollars for in a restaurant, I'd say they are well worth it. -

I tried this place out and they were really good like the reviews said. They must have changed their pricing because it costed something like $10 for 4, $14 for 6, and $27 for 12. That's cheaper than any other place I have seen. Nice to see.

Not bad...not bad at all, but rather expensive for what you get. Big City Cupcakes is another player in Edmonton's cupcake wars, and they do a pretty decent job. Good flavour selection with some standouts like toffee crunch and strawberry cheesecake. The icing is tasty but a bit too thick, while the underlying cake is very rich and dense. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it makes for a dauntingly rich snack.
