If you are ever in the south east corner of British Columbia and really want a delicious bagel, hit up Big Bang Bagels.  The bagels are delicious, the bagel sandwiches are clever, and there are Australians coming out of the woodwork.

Just thinking about this place makes me drool all over my keyboard. Big Bang is to bagels what Superman is to humanoids. Seriously.

The bagels here have a very distinct taste, sort of sweet and salty at the same time. In my attempts to replicate them, soft pretzel recipes containing a lot of brown sugar came the closest to simulating the flavor and density.

They have quite an extensive selection of bagels, and don't make the same kind every day. They do NOT hold back on bagel toppings. If you get a sesame bagel, rest assured it will be entirely coated in sesame seeds, not just have a few sprinkled on top. They also offer a variety of cleverly named sandwiches that you can get made with the bagel of your choice. You can order bagels here, which is good if you like a particular flavor that they don't often make. Orders must be placed a minimum of 24 hours beforehand. I have ordered from them several times and usually they are great, though one time they did mess up my order and I had to come back the next day.

The bagels themselves freeze quite well, though when thawed they don't have that nice fresh-out-of-the-oven crispy exterior. Still, even frozen they are better than any bagel I've been able to find in Edmonton, so I always take a whole bunch home with me whenever I visit. If you're visiting or passing through the area, you should check them out!

These are not your ordinary run of the mill bagels. They are much lighter and not so dense.  the taste and freshness here is out of this world. I ate here for the first time today. I had a chicken sandwich on a salty top and hubby had a onion and garlic with butter. Absolutely fabulous. We found ourselves talking about it all day.
The prices are reasonable but as I mentioned the bagels are like no other. I promise if you stop for breakfast or lunch you will not be disappointed.
They also serve soups and beverages.

I wish to build a pipeline from Big Bang Bagels to Buffalo. I've never encountered such a variety of white-flour and whole-wheat bagels. I'm a big fan of the salt bagel and was happy to purchase a whole wheat salt, with a schmear, at Big Bang Bagels. Yeah, the whole wheat definitely cancels out the salt in my diet. Great place. They even have hot pepper flavored cream cheese, which I did not try. Wimp.

My family and I stopped in Fernie, BC during a wandering trip on a rainy day looking for lunch.  Fernie's a pretty tiny town and Big Bang seemed like our best bet so we ducked in, expecting nothing incredible.  When we entered, though, we found a warm, bright store that smelled like freshly baked bagels, played Bob Marley, and offered free Wi-Fi.  In other words, we found Canada's version of Heaven.

We'd been driving in the rain for several hours and really just hoped for a bathroom and a quick bite, but the bagel sandwiches blew us away and the service was exceptional.  We ended up sitting by the windows, where we charged our computers and checked our email (and I wrote this review).  Fernie may be out of the way, but if you get up there stop in Big Bang.
