Was looking for a classic, historic old school Boston dive bar. Just a tad off the beaten path, Biddy's satisfied! Beers were cheap, drinks were strong, food looked good (didn't eat), and the atmosphere was just totally perfect - dark, dingy, stone and brick, worn wood - it felt like a bar where a million people have made a million mistakes over the course of a couple hundred years. I only wish I could have taken it home with me.

The only bummer was we tried to go back at about 11:15 p.m. on Saturday night of St. Patrick's Day and they told us they were closing down. A gem like this should be open as much as possible. So, might be a better happy hour/evening spot than a late-night joint.

The best way I can describe this bar is it's a great place to either start or end the night. Great after work place to meet up with a group for some cheap (and in my experience, strong). It epitomizes the words "Dive Bar", and it is glorious.

A dive bar should have at least 3  of the following to be considered acceptable: Erotic Photo Hunt (which just so happens to be my strongest pub game), cheap and strong mixed drinks, darts, a jukebox, late last call, and close proximity to public transportation. Biddy's has them all, and a friendly staff (which is not typical of the dive bar).

In an area where $12 cosmos and clackety stilletto heels can be heard from every corner, Biddy Early's is a breath of fresh (read: stale beer and peanuts) air. I will be back over and over again.

I had to write a review to this place because I've been here many times but did not know how strong people love this place.

To give you my perspective, I work across the street from this bar so it's the go to "I've been working 11 hours straight and I need a goddamn beer" place.

I was directed here because I was looking for a place that is "good place for groups". I just wanted to correct that point. Yes this place is awesome for a college student who wants cheap beer. Yes this is a perfect place for a weekday drink for any professional that is looking for cheap beer. But NO it's not "good for groups". I personally like to have elbow room. The last time I was here I came with my audit team which was about 10+ people. I couldn't turn around without hitting the partner in the arm (who was passing around the bucket of beers - Loved it!).

But honestly, that's my only complaint. It's a perfect college bar and has a great atmosphere. I like coming here with a few co-workers but if I'm with a bigger group I'm going to a bigger bar.

And really, college kids make it alllll the way down to the financial district. Now that's saying something!

Looking for a great dive bar with awesome staff, this is your place.
Try the "Bucket of Beers". Food is typical pub food and very tasty.
When you walk in you will see a mix of construction workers with office people in ties, but don't judge a book by its cover, the place is a legend among us locals.
P.S. Knock loud on the bathroom doors, they don't lock well.

I had to update this review since going again.

Yup, still sucks.  Still not a dive.  And still this little safe little hang out for kids playing rough and tumble.  You can get beers this cheap lots of places, and much stronger drinks for the same price.  Don't believe the hype.  Diversity here means a middle-upper class 30 year old and a college kid will be in the same room.

...Really-if you are looking for a true Boston dive, try the Drinking Fountain, JJ Foley's in Jamaica Plain, or Whiteys.  These places are Tom Waits.  Biddy's is Billy Joel.

Ridiculously cheap drinks, easy on street parking on the weekends and ridiculously cheap drinks. Oh there were also darts, friendly strangers tearing it up on the dance floor and those buckets of $2 beers.

I was jealous of my friend who works across the street and can spend less on 5 drinks at Happy Hour than I spend on 2 drinks in the suburbs.

    BEST BAR IN THE US.

Colin Fiske hangs out there. I understand that many of you might not know who Colin Fiske is out there, average yelpers; but he is like the King Skateboard-Dude of America. The guy like invented every trick. He's skateboarding's DB Cooper. Reclusive in the extreme, I only heard about him when he delivered a package to my office and someone's like "do you know who that guy is???" So I asked why he was a courier and they told me his story and where he hung out. Obviously I was piqued, so I decided to show up at Biddy Early's-where, in the average week, is the only socializing he does-I come to find out.

And that's why they're getting 5 stars. If they can make THIS guy feel comfortable and safe drinking in a wildly diverse crowd such as theirs than surely anyone can feel comfortable there. I mean look at me, business guy, just doin my thing, thinkin my business-y thoughts, not thinkin about skateboard guy hotdoggin thru the streets with his huge white tshirt with the graffiti logo. That's what IM SAYIN. The drinks are generous, the food is simple and perfect bar food (and tons of it), the people that work there are so nice and I don't know-it just rules.

I need to update this review, to show that my love for Biddys has remained strong. I love the bartenders...Sean, Darragh and Jeff are all amazing.

I love that I can scam money for the jukebox and blast Celine Dion.

    I love shots.

I love the chicken finger basket. I love the grilled chicken sandwich. I love the chili. I love the nachos that have a different set of toppings every time I order them.

    I love the crowd.

I love that I haven't had a dart thrown in my foot in almost a year.

I love that after the clock hits 6:30, this place is my goddamned playground.

First place we hit when we arrived in Boston. Small, dimly lit bar, but has a good atmosphere. Nice old look to the bar, like many things have happened over quite a few decades. Went back a second time and had the burgers, which were big, good and reasonably priced. Could not get enough Sam Adams Brick Red. Decent prices, and will go back to Biddy's when back in Beantown

I have never reviewed Biddy Early's, which may or may not be blasphemous.  Now that I have returned to check it out again,  I now feel that I can make an assessment:  it's awesome.

Beer prices are good ($5 for a Sam Adams Brick Red), a feel that can only be described as dive bar, and a scratch card machine in the back that I won $2 from all make for a perfect place.  It can get crowded when there are lots of people, but it also has a generally friendly feel even when crowded.

Overall, I like Biddy's.  It's not pretentious.  Instead, it's a relaxed place to get a beer or multiple beers in Downtown.

We drank cheap pitchers of Pabst Blue Ribbon.

    Are we hipsters?

We played Dropkick Murphys on the juke.

    Are we cliche?

    I learned about jails.

I learned about the nursing profession at jails.

    It was disturbing.

I drank more pitchers of PBR.

    It became less disturbing.

    We played darts.

    We did shots of Jameson.

Someone played Celine Dion on the juke.

    Someone may have puked.

    I think it was me.

I think I drank more pitchers of PBR.

    How did we get home?

My clothes were still on when I woke up.

My wallet still had money in it.

    Should I be really hungover?

Should we have gone back to Biddy Early's for more PBR?

    Probably not.

Cheap PBRs, and a decent selection of other beers & non-fancy drinks at reasonable prices.

Decent burgers and fries if all those cheap drinks lead to the need for some other sustenance in your belly.

Dart board with actually decent weighted bar darts, so no worries if you left yours at home.

Friendly bartenders, the kind of place you can hang out and just feel comfortable.

Oh biddy's, wrap your blue ribbon of pabst around my heart and pull me away into that great frothy ocean of ethanol, the chemical formula of which is CH3CH2OH.

Been hearing a lot of chatter all these years about this place. This is a lot of Yelpers go to spot for fun in the...moonlight. Did not disappoint! I walked in to a group of familiar yelp faces doing an Irish jig to some folky sounding song on the Juke!

Pitcher of PBR was 8 bucks, can't go wrong with that for financial district city prices. Didn't get to try any of the food, missed the kitchen by 5 minutes. Place is very  cozy, seems like there are a lot of regulars.

I wouldn't call this place a 'Dive' but for in the city I guess it's as close as you can get I suppose? Us suburbanites know it's not a dive unless (greater than) 50% of the people are wearing their 3 part colors on their leather jackets. ::Sits a little straighter up on his high horse::

But all in all this place was real fun, and i'll definitely be back now that I know it exists and is pretty packed all the time. I would like to also point out the bar tenders serve you immediately, even with a large crowd. They're very quick on their feet and I never had to wait a second for a drink!

I'll be back soon to that yellow arched hole in the wall I love so much now.

I keep swearing that Biddy's will be a regular bar for me, and I always forget to come here. The trouble with knowing too many people on the Green Line is that they're tough to persuade to branch out of their comfort zones. (Forgive us. We're mostly transplants.)

That said, I've been to Biddy's on a few occasions for various events or reasons, and it's never let me down. They take credit cards. At least once they had Bulleit Bourbon. (They didn't last time. GET IT BACK! NOW!) The beer's cheap. The food's decent enough for bar food. (though they fry with soybean oil)They forgot to bill me for a second Jack n' Coke last week. I tried to rectify it, but they're all, "eh, don't worry about." The jukebox is decent; at least one other patron at Biddy's loves Oakland hip hop because Kreayshawn was playing the last time I was there. The bartenders weren't dicks when I wanted to watch the Sharks during the playoffs. I even accidentally ended up with a free beer during that game. And some guy who just peed hit on me right as he exited the bathroom....oh wait, that's actually not cool.

Maybe I will someday convince my fellow Green Line friends to hussle out here. Maybe I'll just go alone next time.

Fridays are better than Saturdays. They're closed on Sundays.

Do you sometimes wonder why the City of Boston is only somewhat decent? Well, if you really want to know why, this place is one of the many possible reasons. I went to this small Irish-influenced bar located in the heart of Downtown Boston, and encountered a somewhat interesting group of characters that somehow know me. The bar has this gritty look with a lot of noise, and it can get really crowded in the evening. However, I actually liked it for a little bit.

As for food, I got a Biddy Early's Burger, cooked medium rare, with Swiss cheese. It had lettuce tomato, and onion, and the bartenders were nice enough to provide a good amount of ketchup for the French fries and the burger. They were offering this special that they provide a draft beer with your burger for about $8.95. Unfortunately, the beer they provide is a Pabst Blue Ribbon, which is not a great beer. The hamburger meat had a nice and juicy flavor, the vegetables were fairly fresh, the cheese was enjoyable, and the bread was nice and chewy. This made it a really tasty and great hamburger, and they got the job done well. The french fries were just okay, they had a nice crispiness on the outside, and could use a tiny bit more salt.

The appetizers here are somewhat decent. I ate some of the Nachos here, and I liked that they put a decent amount of ground beef, but needed some more cheese. They were definitely not the tastiest nachos I have eaten, but not a bad choice for a generous snack. I also had the Chips and Salsa, and it's not a bad choice for a small snack with your beer. The they also provide French fries as an appetizer which are the exact same French fries you can get with your hamburger, but at a larger amount. The appetizers are not a bad choice, but not high on my recommendations.

As for the beers, they have a somewhat decent selection that is really typical of any typical American bar. The main attraction is supposedly the Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, but they do serve Blue Moon, Sam Adams and Heineken at a somewhat higher price. The beers are somewhat refreshing, but they need to keep serving the beer really cold at a consistent rate to make them really refreshing. Bartenders are decently good and are effective in getting you something to drink as soon as possible.

The good thing about this place is that the prices are actually reasonable. The dishes and appetizers are less than $10, and you can actually get a glass of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer for possibly about $2. Pabst Blue Ribbon beer is not a great beer, especially when it is not served chilled.

The interior and atmosphere is fairly gritty and it is probably an example of the typical gritty American bar. They have a jukebox that plays loud music to dance to, and a dart board if you want to do some throwing.

Overall, this is bar is not high on my recommendations if you are looking for an amazing beer selection or a great menu. I actually liked eating and drinking at this bar because of the prices and the location is great. Although this bar is not high on my recommendations, if you are willing to "get down and dirty" here in the somewhat decent City of Boston, this is actually a really good choice for some good old fashioned and ridiculously insane fun with your friends or if you are willing to hang out with somewhat interesting characters.

who knew that here, in the shiny financial butt-hole of boston, surrounded by meat-head bars and golden gilded hotels, that such a smelly little gem existed?

go on, play some meatloaf on that juke box, you know you want it. you don't smoke anymore, but now that there's an antique cigarette dispenser next to you, you might, you may, you do.

stumble on over and throw some pointy things at that target on the wall. over-tip that gruff bartender, the one who served your husband that soda water without laughing him out of the establishment.

sprinkle in a toothless lady and a few ashtrays and call it tennessee!

After wandering around Boston on a Saturday evening, I stumbled upon Biddy Early's in the financial district. I firmly believe in signs from above, and took this as a sign that I should stop here and have a pint. That sign also said I should come back later that night with more people and have more pints and maybe toss in some shots and darts too.

The 'sign' is because I stop regularly in NYC at a bar with the same name. The challenge was for the Boston version to be as great as the NYC version. They're not affiliated, but they sure do look, sound, and smell similar.

They're both Irish pubs with misc. stuff on the walls. They both get pretty crowded with a young-ish crowd. They both have gross stinky bathrooms. They both have friendly bar staff.

I first stopped in here around 5 o'clock and had a few drinks while playing a few games of darts. I didn't have plans that night, so I planned to bring 8-10 folks back around 10. At 5, it was a cozy place to hang out. At 10, it was like an adult romper room.

    Fun times all around.

I have been a massive Yelp slacker and it's only fitting I get back on track with a review of Biddys - our after-work go-to hang out.  The term "dive" is so overused in Boston, but this is THE best honest-to-goodness dive in the city and the only one in the financial district
Cheap beer, a great bar staff, a kick-ass jukebox and yea - good bar food all make this a fantastic place to bitch about work. The grilled chicken sandwich is really tasty and try to find better mozzarella sticks when your buzz kicks in...
The crowd is pretty cool too in it's diversity - blue and white collar all bellied up for a bucket of beer and Foreigner on the jukebox. The only negative is the bathroom... Which only lends to it's dive cred...

    What an awesome bar!

We felt like total tourists once we settled in at the bar because you could tell the place was full of locals. Drinks were cheap, strong pours, the crowd was full of energy, and the bartenders were friendly. It feels divey, which I loved. People were walking in wearing t-shirts, jeans and sneakers only to be followed by girls in cute dresses with 4 inch heels. There was something for everyone, and the Floridians really enjoyed it!

It's definitely a great place to recommend for the tourist that wants to get away from touristy places and have a great time amongst a fun, local crowd.

    Hello, lover.

Pros: You can sweet-talk the bartender into 5 shots of tequila (as opposed to red-headed sluts or weak mixed shots) for $20. The drinks are cheap and strong. They have cricketeer. The mozzarella sticks are INCREDIBLE. Seriously, what are they made of? I want them now. The bathroom is your classic, topsy-turvy dive bathroom, with people banging on the door and an awkward toilet. The last time I was there, a large black man complimented my red suede pumps.

Cons: It is not inside my house and they are not open 24/7

How can you not like Biddy's when all these Fab Yelpers go every Friday night?

Packed like sardines on a Friday night after work you can barely squeeze by. The after work party thinned out hmmm around 8? I lost track of time.

Sadly I am not a PBR drinker, although the prices is up a bit, so I heard.

I started off the night with the chicken tenders and O Rings. The Rings were great! Jason B had a might fine looking burger...note to self.

I went there on Friday night for the Rapture Party. As I sat there over an ice cold PBR recounting the best days of my life, I wondered if this would be my last night on earth. I thought of the many good times I had with my friend, PBR....

Running from the cops in high school with a case under each arm; digging through car parts on the front lawn while drinking a PBR; waking up in a pile of empty PBR's after a long night out; visiting the PBR brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (thank you Laverne and Shirley); sitting in the bed of a pick up truck with a pretty girl and an ice cold PBR; Never paying more than a dollar or two for a can of this tasty beverage. After downing as many PBR's as I  could, I stumbled out to leave. I thought what a perfect dive bar to enjoy a PBR on my last night on earth.

Then, I woke up the next day with a screaming PBR headache. This quickly made me realize that the rapture was a bunch of crap, and why I dont like PBR anymore. Oh well, at least I can go back to Biddy's and try something new.

I don't know of any other bar that feels quite so much like home.

This past Saturday I arrived at 6:30 for a blowout birthday party, had one of the best grilled chicken sandwiches of my life, danced to Cee Lo Green and Big Punisher, greeted various friends, shared pitchers and inside jokes, and left many many hours later.

I came here to meet some of the coolest yelpers ever! I'm glad they picked this spot. It's definitely small but it's warm and cozy. I didn't feel like I was tripping all over the place to get somewhere either. This is especially good after a few drinks.

The bartenders were very friendly. It's great when they make eye contact with you and actually know your place in line. The beer is really cheap and their other alcohol is decently priced.

I had some of their fries and food which was descent, especially after some drinks. But that's not why you go here is it? It's a little too far from me to frequent but I would definitely like to come back for another event with awesome yelpers!

I'm the last person ever to write a review for Biddy's. But whatevs, here we go.

I have gotten to really love Biddy's. Granted, I'm wasted every time I go there, so this might be a bit biased. But $1.50 PBRs? Yes please. 5 shots for $20? Yes please. Darts? Yes please. Jukebox with music being played not too loudly? Yes please. Cute bartenders? Hell yes. Sketchy one-person bathrooms? Could probably skip. (I've now used the men's bathroom twice).

The diversity of the crowd is awesome. Sitting at the bar, I have a townie on my left whose brother is coming later on to celebrate his 21st bithday. On my right, I have a super preppy guy with longish hair in a North Face coat. Farther down the bar I see a very attractive guy who looks like he works in construction. Behind me, there's 10 Yelpers singing and dancing. And of course, there's always the awesome older Spanish guy,  whose name I think is Hermando, dancing in place and asking pretty girls if they have boyfriends. I had an awesome conversation with Hermando last night, as I shared with him my limited Spanish vocabulary (that all involve cursing, sex or insults). He then decided I knew Spanish so we had a 10 minute convo in Spanish (him talking, me nodding). What he was saying, I have no idea. But I do know that he's awesome.

Last night, Yelpers stormed Biddy's after the elite event at Petit Robert, and the bartenders handled it with ease. Dropped, broken glasses? One of the brothers was there in 30 seconds to clean up the party foul. A certain person getting hit in the foot by a dart and bleeding profusely? The staff didn't even blink an eye.

Also, their onion rings are delicious.

Update: apparently hermano means brother in Spanish. So most likely that is not the Spanish guy's name. But you can just call him Hermando if you see him, he didn't seem to mind.

Best bar around! I moved to Boston about 3 years ago and discovered this gem only a year ago. No matter what I'm guaranteed a good night with great people.

Plus there is the perk of a cute red headed bartender!

The bad thing about Biddy's is that, if you end up there after 10pm, nothing positive will come out of the remainder of your night.

The good thing about Biddy's is that, if you end up there after 10pm, nothing positive will come out of the remainder of your night.

I have never spent an evening here that ended without incident.  That said, the incidents are usually pretty comical as they're happening and as the story unfolds the next day.  They're always worth it.

If a bar scene could be a hot mess, Biddy's would be it.  And we love them for it.

One final comment:  Biddy's is a black hole for cell phones.  There was another disappearance last night. HANG ON TO YOUR PHONE.*

*disclaimer:  This is not to imply that phones are stolen out of pockets.  Ooohhhh no my dear reader.  This is to say that, with the cheap drinks and good times here, more than a handful of people have drunkenly misplaced/dropped/set down/forgotten phones. If this happens to you, rest assured in knowing that you're hangin' with the best of 'em.

I have officially done every single crazy thing* I did in my college days in this bar since it's discovery, which was... what?   Four maybe five months ago?

    EVERY SINGLE THING*!

(*Except that thing.  I'm not ever doing that thing again.)

I spent about $17 dollars here.  This included a more than 20% tip.  I had a meal and I got drunk.

I have recently discovered Biddy's as my new regular spot. Me and my three friends have made it a routine to go there every Saturday night. Mainly because we love the bartenders and DJ Action Jackson! I have never been disappointed with anything there, and have always felt comfortable no matter how large or small the crowd. Great food, great drinks, and an overall good time every time! Highly recommended!!!!

Have you ever had one of those ventures where everything flows together seamlessly? The succession of events, the fluidity of momentum, the timing - it's all just perfect. You forgot eggs at the store, so you hop in the car; weather's temperate, clothes are comfortable. You catch every green light, change lanes without touching the paint or a reflector, find parking up front, stride with eggs to an open cashier, pay with exact change and back to the car type thing.

Biddy's is the only tavern that offers this experience for three-hour dive bar stretch. It's almost creepy. The rumors are true: cheap beer is ridiculously cheap (150 pennies for a draft PBR), the shot board offers a round of 5 collegiate throat coats for 20 clams and the staff are always smiling. Which makes sense, as they get to work in an environment of flawless synchronicity.

    Three things:
    - You will see celebrities. Danny Trejo rules the dart board and Mac's mom from It's Always Sunny cruises the bar. Also, the skull of Dwight Schrute hangs from the wall (Until Halloween? Year round? Time will tell.)
    - The pub standard chicken tender plate is anything but standard. One of my tenders was shaped like a squirrel. Delicious nonetheless, with fries and a salad for $7.
    - The jukebox inevitably plays Rich Girl by Hall and Oates. Love.

MMMMmmmmm.....sweet, sweet cheapness. $1.50 PBR? I love you.

Can't speak to the food. Atmosphere is dive-y in a good way. Small but cozy, uber friendly staff. It is also wheelchair accessible.

Cheap beer + good company + 2 blocks from South Station = Love.

Now that I've been to Biddy Early's twice I can say that it's a great bar, divey or not. Cheap shots, cheap PBR drafts, kitschy decor like something back in the 70's, photo hunt, darts, and some of the nicest bartenders who own the bar passed down from their parents. No joke, what bartender gives you $10 to put in the jukebox and keep the music going?? I also hear the bar food is pretty good too. Really the divest thing about this place are the bathrooms, which clearly keeps it at dive bar status.

I get the feelings this has become a regular Yelper hangout, which isn't so bad.

They play Naughty By Nature's "OPP" like all the time.

The ladies room is pear themed. You heard me.

Two more reasons why you need to go here.

Oh boy. Went last night for Johnna's birthday, showed up late - around 11 or a bit passed. We were told that we could not be let in. I said I was with the birthday girl, with the Yelpers, and eventually they let us in. Nice guys, good judgement call lettin us in too!

Oh what a night! There were sexy tunes galore last night, fantastic DJ - or at least after a few PINT sized mixed drinks, I thought they were pretty good songs...

The bathrooms are easy to find, though a bit oddly set up, making it hard to get to the ladies room without almost getting knocked out by the men's room door... Eeek. Lots of guys trying to use the ladies room too last night, whoa buddy, wait yer turn.

I got a drink knocked out of my hand (covering Dawn E's feet and some other parts of her I'm sure in juice and vodka - sorry!) and the bartender gave me a free new one. Very nice of him.

I spent very little money and got absolutely plastered. I forsee myself going back here often, but I think I'm gonna have to plan getting home better than I've done before. Cheap drinks are nice, saving money for a cab ride is even better --- but falling all over the place rippin butts on Purchase Street at 2am? No bueno.

One of my favorite parts of the night was when I turned around and one of the girls I went with was playing Keno --- random...

They need a coat check, wicked bad. They would probably make a killing off it.

I have not been let down by the Legends of Biddy Earlys!

This Saturday me and 10 of my closest friends invaded a corner of the bar for a few hours to celebrate my 25th year :) The bartender was so super friendly, and had an awesome fro going on! The mixed drinks are served in pint glasses, YES PLEASE! =) The food menu is not huge, but I had the Steak Tips, and damn were they delicious, and maybe $7-8 for a full meal with a side of fries and a salad. Two of my friends also ordered the nachos which they said were also amazing, and inexpensive!

The locations is great, right in the middle of Downtown, but just ever so slightly out of the way of the commotion of State Street. They play good music, and even had a DJ in the back. The staff is very friendly, the people there seemed cool as well :)

The bathroom is a little small, and the toilet rocked when seated, but it's a dive bar, and I got way more than I paid for, so I was a happy camper, thanks Biddys!
