Review from Arlen N.
Vancouver, BC
I have been involved in cycling in one aspect or another for the last decade, from wrenching in shops, to racing at an amateur level, to commuting. Starting quite heavily with mountain bikes then taking a bit of break and now beginning to break into road cycling this year.
Bicycle Sports Pacific, North Vancouver (BSP) appears to be brand new location. Big, bright, show room with LOTS of stock. Clean and well organized. Being seriously in the market for an entry level road bike (1500$ to 2000$) I head to that area of the shop, front and center in the large show room. I find one to my liking. Start having a look... no help yet, fine... I'll keep playing (keeping in mind, there is one other customer is the store at this time, the sales staff of four is behind the retail counter). I take the bike out of the rack, start clicking brakes, bouncing it, spinning wheels... nothing... I look at the sales counter, I see them, they see me... nothing... I walk over to the sales counter and ask: "anybody want to talk road bikes with me?" I was told somebody would be with me in a few minutes.
Finally, somebody shows up and we start talking about the bike I had selected. I ask a few technical questions and leave the sales person stammering. "your not the road bike guy are you?". Turns out there was not a road bike guy there that day. (When 1/2 your shop is road bikes, keep a road bike guy on staff... please).
I continued to test ride the bike, even after being informed I would have to have my credit card authorized for the full pop of the bicycle purchase. Effectively, I have to buy the bike to test ride it. Now, I understand a few bikes go missing each year from test rides, but REALLY inconvenient.
I don't know if 2k$ is not enough money to get attention from a bicycle sales person these days... but I figured in a down-turned economy, we would not be too pickey?
All I can say is that I hope the knowledge and customer service at the other BSP locations is better than North Vancouver. I know the test ride authorization policy will be global, but maybe something they should rethink... they are the only people doing it as far as i know. -

North Vancouver, BC
I was shocked at the incompetence of the service staff. They had my Cannondale for seven weeks, due to not knowing what parts my bike would need, even though i spent a great deal of time asking about anticipated parts needed for the build. Then, when they gave me back the bike, The derailer was misinstalled, the brake line was too short, they had mixed up the brakes which cost me some rather valuable rotors and pads and were unable to solve the problem. I had to figure it out and make the correction in their shop, with their tools. They were very apologetic for all the f-ups and the amount of time it took, although not sorry enough to refund my labour costs. Last week i was hit by a car, bending my lefty wheel. I took it to them because they are authorized and should be the people to go to. The mechanic, who screwed up the lefty bearing cap a year ago and never replaced it for me, despite a promise to do so, tried to remove it as if it were right hand rotation (something i didn't know about but he certainly should have) and stripped the holes out so that the tool they use, which is not even the right tool, couldn't get a grip on it. At 5:10pm we were taking turns pounding on it with a punch and hammer. I brought in a spare wheel which i bought years back and he proceeded to do the same thing to that one. Three mechanics converged and i left that store with no wheel on my bike and two f-ed wheels. They certainly look the part, but they really have no clue how to repair, and i will try to be fair here, Cannondales. They might know how to install a front derailer on a brand new frame of another brand, but on a Cannondale, it's gong to be almost an inch too high, destroying your new paint which will be reviled to you when they move it where it belongs. I don't like how close they are to a Walmart (because i like people more than products) Also, they don't torque anything, including the cap that kid f-ed up for me, which incidentally is decorated with the tightening torque spec. I will now be using the other Cannondale dealer in BC instead. Infact, if i see you entering BSP North Van., i will accost you.
