This is the best used book store that I have ever came across. Good selection of categories of fiction and non-fiction reading. Books are in really good, almost new condition.

Really warm friendly energy there. Also, there are two resident cats that live there and I like cats!

the books are too expensive for 2nd hand, but the woman who is usually there (the owner maybe?) is really helpful and welcoming. the selection is ok, but i still prefer ABC on broadway at granville for both selection and prices.

Bibliophile used to be my favourite bookstore, but then it changed ownership.

old bibliophile was decently priced, with two fat cats to hang out with while i perused. great ambiance and good prices.

new bibliophile is now owned, I believe,  by the woman who owns Canterbury Tales in kitsilano (which i tried out when i lived over there and found too expensive).

Well, she brought her high prices with her and I now can not afford to shop at my favourite bookstore. She should change the name, lest Bibilophile`s reputation be tarnished (which it already is in my books).

yes, the books are practically new. but so are the prices. I have found that the prices have risen about 20% overall, but sometimes even more. I hate to say it, but if I`m buying a brand new book, I`m probably going to go to Book Warehouse or Costco, at least pay 25% under Chapters or Indigo, as well as probably 25% less than Bibliophile.

it really breaks my heart. I do love supporting my local shops, but no one likes to be ripped off. Sorry.

wow! This was my first time to visit. I found a pristine copy of "The Help" for half price. There's one entire wall with all the popular titles. Most in "like new" condition.  What a great store! The staff (Sara) was friendly and knew exactly where I could find things. It doesn't even look like a used bookstore. It's clean, organized and with a pretty good selection.

I don't understand Kate's comment. Perhaps she hasn't thought it through? Bookstores (and others) are closing left-right-and-center. Kate said the previous owner (with the cats) left. Perhaps books at bargain basement prices didn't pay the rent...after all! it's not a subsidized thrift store.

And the best news? they'll buy "The Help" back and I can put the credit toward another book...now there's a bargain!

Bibliophile reminds me of my hometown Half Price Books, but with so much more character.  There are little wooden signs hanging from the stacks delineating their different sections.  There are strange brass and wooden knicknacks everywhere.   The prices are fair and there are books to suit EVERY taste in this small storefront.  Seriously, if you can't find one book to enjoy in this place, you just plain don't like books.  I was sorely tempted by several and had a hard time narrowing down my final selections.

Things are a bit cramped in this place--at one point I found myself being poked in the bum by a model sailing ship's prow--but that's part of its charm, and although it's packed in tight, it's also fairly well-organized.  I walked out with two books from their "Miscellaneous History" section: a volume on the Dutch tulip mania and a book about history's most famous and influential courtesans.  They were welcome friends on my plane trip home, and Bibliophile Book Shop was a memorable stop on my Vancouver vacation.

The best used book store I've found in Vancouver.

Not only are the prices very reasonable (under $10 for most books, a bit more if it's new), but they have a diverse selection of quality books. If you're in need of a cheapo Clive Cussler, this is not the place for you.

However, if you're looking for stimulating fiction or non-fiction literature, come check it out. Discover a new book, or find that one you've been searching for.

Friendly staff. Conveniently situated amongst many delicious coffee shops.

Typical of any used bookstore, Bibliophile has huge shelves scattered throughout the store, full of books that reach up to the ceiling. It is not uncommon to be pretending to look through the art history books until the two people crammed into the fiction section are done perusing and make some space.

Every type of reader can get their fix here, from quirky historical biographies to formulaic harlequin romances. The inventory is thorough despite the limited space, and sometimes trying to find that one particular book while getting lost in the bookshelf passageways can make the customer feel like a rat in a maze.

The cashier is always reading something, which is a good sign, and is as helpful as a librarian with glasses. The store in general manages to pull off that feeling that some of the books hold great secrets.

It even looks like the place where the kid bought the magical book in the movie The Never Ending Story.

My regular visits here keep my book buying habit satiated. Heavy wooden bookshelves laden with tomes on almost every topic tower over my head. I can easily spend hours browsing the (fairly) well organized shelves or stop in for a quick 15 minutes on my lunch break. Either way, I always ended up finding a book I just have to have. The prices are fair for the quality of book you get and I love the random wood crafts on display throughout the shop. So next time you're feeling wormy, I highly recommend Bibliophile for a good book to curl up with.

I have been disappointed with the Bibliophile.  Prices are relatively high compared to other second hand book shops, and more than one staff person has appeared unfriendly when I've been there.

I really have enjoyed this bookstore on the occasions when I've had a chance to browse.  And it's been fun to browse.  But as Jill G. has said, it may not be the best place for all literature.  Every time I've visited, they have not had the book I wished to find (I'm not so big on Canadiana).  Still, I like to keep going back to get my fix of used-book smell.  The staff are pleasant and friendly.  And there really aren't a lot of places like this left in Vancouver so I wander through to pick up something whenever I can!

This cosy second-hand bookstore has a pretty good selection in a diverse range of subjects from classics to the arts, and they do particularly well in their Canadiana section.  If you're only looking for literature, this may not be THE place, but they do manage to keep a decent selection of all things literary alongside other genres.
