Back when I used to live in the Annex, Better and Better Bakery and Cafe was my daily go-to place for coffee and sometimes breakfast. This place has the best coffee that I've tasted in the area. Although it's a little more expensive than the chain places like Tim Hortons, it's well worth it. The bagels and baguettes are awesome. The woman who runs Better and Better Bakery and Cafe is also really sweet; she always remembered my order and was quick to always help in getting the coffee for me.
I really miss this place, and I wish I could still make my daily runs when I'm on my way to school or work. -

this place is lovely.
Quiet, good service, jazz music; it is as close to a library as a student can get without the palpable anxiety experienced at crunch time.
The coffee is delicious and the baked goods are delightful, tres affordable as well.
In an area where seating is at a premium (goodluck finding a place to sit mid-day at aroma, the beanery, starbucks etc) this place is often overlooked, which means you can ALWAYS find a seat and an electrical outlet to plug-in your lappy or other battery operated device.
Finally, the woman who runs the place is friendly and it feels like she remembers me every time i come in. -

As I write this I am hungrily devouring the last of what could be the best BLT I have ever had, on this, my second stop at the Better and Better Bakery and Cafe. Between sips of a really nice large cappuccino (BLT now GONE), I am appreciating this quiet, simple little place here in Toronto's Koreatown.
I first stopped in early one morning a couple of days ago as I was walking from Chinatown up through this area on the way to visit my Mother who lives in a nursing home nearby, and purchased a small cap (acceptable) and a butter croissant (dry and not that fresh). The place didn't make much of an impression on that first visit, partly because I took my food to go and didn't spend any time here.
When I arrived here just a bit ago the place had a gaggle of teen kids in the back all enjoying their lunch break from school (now gone), a pair of Korean lesbians (yeah, I got the gaydar that way) working on some sort of writing project, and a round-eye or two like me (well, not LIKE me, but....you know...).
Anyway, now it's quiet and still.......with lovely Muzak playing (or Christian music, I'm not sure - but still very warm and pleasant)....the energy is really nice, and I'm starting to wonder which of the cool pastries I'm going to get to finish off this lunch break, and whether or not I'll have another cappuccino (it IS vacation after all!).
This isn't a place I would make a special trip for, but I would certainly come here any time I was walking through on the way to see my Mom. Oh, and that BLT......made on a really awesome buttery-topped round semi-hard roll, with absolutely HEAPS of warm, greasy-just-right bacon, mayo, and a bit of lettuce and tomato. Sweet!! -

I discovered this place as I used to live around the corner but since I've moved I still make a point of dropping by to buy one of their fresh, squidgy bagels or their amazing banana and chocolate muffins. I went here a few weekends ago to do my Spanish homework (hola!) and stayed for about 2 and half hours. And even though I'd gobbled my danish pastry and juice within the first 5 minutes (I've never been able to be one of those people who can sit there and slowly and delicately pick at their food), they let me happily sit there and get on with my studies. The cookies are good too. And everything is reasonably priced.

Very solid 3. Clean and quiet cafe that affords a pleasant place to sit while you have your sandwich or soup. The quality is nothing to write home about, but its a good option in the Bloor / Bathurst area for a quick bite that's simple and not an adventure.

Quick Review:
The good: Their specialty is banana bread (also comes in muffin form both with and without chocolate chips), not too busy or trendy, family owned independent business, free samples, good location, assortment of beverages and coffee's, assortment of bagels, bun's (can have a sandwich made fresh in front of you), croissants, and danishes, reasonable prices and free wifi, of course.
The bad: Not sure about the quality of coffee as I rarely drink it.
Some more detail: First off, I'm not a big coffee house/Starbucks dude because I can grind out work really well at home, but as of late I've been testing the waters a bit more. Better and Better Bakery is situated beside the old McDonald's that used to be in the Annex and the location itself used to be a Polish bakery for many years until recently when ownership/renters changed. Now under new Korean ownership, Better and Better Bakery resembles a cafe with a hint of an Asian bakery ( hard to explain unless you've been to one). On first impressions, the cafe is clean with a wood finish, some stools at the front window and some private seating in the back. You'll be greeted by a friendly lady, that i only assume is the mom of the business ( she instructed her daughter of maybe 12 years old to proceed and make my cappuccino, which tasted good). They carry all the standard coffee's, lattes, etc.. and have tea's, juices and other various drinks as well as a home made lemonade that was pretty tasty. However, the big draw would be the banana bread and banana bread muffins, which are noticeably fresh to the bite.
Better and Better Bakery is recommended if you'd like some privacy, like free wifi, like banana bread and dislike trendy hipsters and coffee house aficionados (no offense intended). -

I have been coming here for around about a year and have no complaints. As long as you buy some food and are polite, they will let you setup shop for hours as you plug away on your laptop.
They used to have some internet issues, but I helped them get rid of them so now they have one of the most consistent internet connections a cafe can provide.
If you go there, get the breakfast bagel combo #3. It comes in at $3.83 after tax for a large coffee and egg+cheese bagel. Yum!
