I am trying not to let the fact that I was stood up here sour my review. ;)
Beth's is a must do for any Seattleite. People crawl here, taxi here, walk here from every bar in town and it does deliver. The place is an experience on its own.
I wandered in sober, so I was already out of place. Staff is all very helpful and friendly, and the cooks are working fast and hard to keep up with a packed house. Wait for a table can be as long as 30 minutes, and everyone in your party must be present in order to snag one. I should mention that they did break this rule for me. By the time I'd been there an hour, I think this was due to pity.
When I finally ordered, everything came out to perfection. The wait for food is a bit long, but very understandable. Bacon was crisp, toast was buttered, hash browns are HUGE, and egg was delicious. I loved their black tea, which came out with honey and a lemon (without me asking) and was refilled with hot water very promptly.
Perks: a game room with rifle shooting game, old style arcade, and two pinball machines, friendly and helpful staff, no-frills atmosphere and payment (pay at the counter after you are finished eating), crayons and paper to color while you wait.
I will venture back in! -

Overrated.
Just another American breakfast diner place, with the typical pancakes, omelettes, french toast, etc to choose from. The food doesn't wow my taste bud, but it's not bad either. Just mediocre.
They do give you a lot of food. Like how they give you all you can eat hashbrowns when you order the omelettes.
Dislike the service, especially, when they are busy. And most of the time, they are busy! So they really should stop being cheap and hire more servers. One time it took 15 min for me to get my orange juice, and then waited another 25 min for my breakfast. -

Most definitely one of the best dives in the country for breakfast as proved by being featured on so many food shows. We visited after being gone from the NW for 12 years and it's exactly the same - YAY!
Our family breakfast out didn't disappoint. The size of the meals is still humongous and well prepared. We had a 12 egg omelet at our table and two 6 egg omelette's that were devoured! I had the hash - it didnt disappoint - homemade and crispy.
Good coffee, great service, fun and uncensored customer art on the walls. We will always LOVE Beth's and return on each visit back to the NW. -

This is the place you want to take friends or family from outside of Seattle, because it is so unique. My son saw an episode of "Regular Show" where they had a 12-egg omelet challenge and I told him "you know, we have such a thing for real, here in Seattle", so we took him there. We "only" took on the 6-egg omelet and yet, even with sharing, it was a massive breakfast. The hash browns that come with the omelet are pretty tasty.
It's not necessarily for you if you are on a weight-loss diet, but I have seen Beth's Cafe a couple of times on TV and when you know what you can expect, you will not be disappointed. I am looking forward for the next time to take on their humongous breakfast burritos. -

I have been a Washington resident for over 30 years and Beth's is one of my favorite places to eat breakfast.
After watching the episode of Man v. Food that showed Adam Richman attempting to eat a 12-egg omelette, I have repeatedly challenged myself to see if I could consume a 6-egg omelette. To date, I have been unsuccessful.
Since December, I have been sweating it out in Phoenix, Arizona. I just flew back to Seattle last night and the first thing I did was drive over to Beth's and order a Southwestern Exposure omelette.
This place is one of the best there is. Just gimme a slice of Friendship Bread and I'm happy. -

Who isn't a fan of breakfast?!
I've been here a couple times after a long walk at Green Lake Park or just in the area and wanting some good food. It's also nice that it's open 24 hrs :)
You can't go wrong with their 12 egg omelette but their blueberry french toast is pretty darn good too mmm
What makes this place most unique is that people who visit this place have the opportunity to make their mark by drawing a picture and posting it on the walls. It's cool to see the different pictures on the walls. THERE ARE A LOT but it's a good thing.
So if you're hungry and have some creative juices flowing, make a trip here and post your art on the walls. You never know what you'll find in there :DComment from Chris D. of Beth's Cafe 5/8/2012

Beth's Cafe is famous for huge portions at reasonable prices. If that is what you are craving, you have come to the right place. The omelets come in two sizes, six or 12 egg. The other dishes are similar in size. To make things even more crazy, they come with all you can eat hash browns. Overall, the food was pretty good, not great. The hash browns were the star for me.
This place was opened in 1954 and looks like it. I think it adds to the charm, though others may just think it looks old.Comment from Chris D. of Beth's Cafe 4/30/2012

Beth's is a fantastic diner, so long as you know what to expect. It is the epitome of greasy spoon with a great atmosphere. Their hashbrowns are probably best in town (my favorite at least), and many of their other dishes are great as well, if not a bit greasy. Prices aren't the best, but they are reasonable and comparable to the other greasy spoons in Seattle.
My favorite part is always the drawings on the wall, since you never know what you'll see. As a warning, I have found a few crass ones over the years, so something to perhaps be aware of if dining with anyone sensitive to such things (kids or otherwise). If you do happen to notice something, the staff should have no problem removing it though, as they seem to have an endless supply of fresh drawings.
About the staff, I've had some great friendly waiters/waitresses, and some who barely made an appearance. It really depends on how busy they are most of the time, and generally being a late night patron I tend to get better service than when I've been there for lunch/dinner times. -

I'll admit, this place is probably the best thing ever.. when intoxicated. Tons of greasy, deep friend, calorie dense food options to choose from & the portions are always huge. Not to mention it is open 24 hours.
However, when not intoxicated this place is slightly awful. Average food at best, nothing I couldn't get for a lot cheaper then they charge, the place itself is a little dirty & the staff is quite interesting.. to say the least.
Not going to lie & say I won't return, smashed, at 3am, to stuff my face.Comment from Chris D. of Beth's Cafe 4/10/2012

Not gunna lie - I liked this place quite a lot!
The decor left a lot to be desired. The walls are covered with childrens art, nothing is new, very very hole in the wall, but once you get past that it's pretty great!
I had the chocolate milkshake to start and OMG it was awesome - SO DELICIOUS!!! My fiance had the peanut butter milkshake - he loved it!
For my entree I had the pancakes, scrambled eggs, and ham. The pancakes were HUMONGOUS!! Very glad I didn't opt for an extra pancake lol. It was very delicious though. The scrambled eggs were fine - normal eggs. The ham was fantastic though!
My fiance had the ruben - he said it was good, not great.
Overall - pretty great place! I liked it, we'll be back.Comment from Chris D. of Beth's Cafe 4/11/2012

Went in there last night (Saturday) at around 1am and waited around an hour for a table, the service seemed pretty slow even though it didn't seem as busy as it was while we were waiting....Our waitress was super sweet and my grilled cheese and tomato sandwich was yummy! The lighting is a bit bright (flourescent) :-( and the music was a little too loud, but I always wanted to go there because I know that it is a Seattle staple and it was still fun because of all of the art on the wall and the fun patrons......Maybe I will sit in the middle room the next time we go, the lighting doesn't seem as bright. :-)

The help is okay, I don't really know why. I am not a fan of their burgers or their fries. I love splitting a 12 egg omelet. The Alaskan salmon one is soooo delicious. I've gotten it a few time and it tasted burnt once but, the other times it has been quite delicious. The friendship bread is to die for as well. I give it 4 stars in spite of all of that because of the value of food you're getting and the gorrrrrrgeous waitresses that they have working there. Oh mama.

Great place for brunch. Be prepared to wait for at least 30minutes. They have really good hashbrowns and egg dishes. However the chicken fried steak was nasty. Avoid!
We went there to get our biscuits and gravy fix however we left unsatisfied. The gravy was pasty, plain and cold. Next time I think I'll stay at home for biscuits and gravy.
Everything comes out really greasy overall so I don't think it's a weekly weekend dive. More like a lets-find-somewhere-interesting-to-pig-out place.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Don't expect a regular Sunday brunch with the grandparents kind of experience here, it's so much more. Drawing by customers on the wall, small table, half torn menu, tight space and an open kitchen- you get the idea. Expect wait on weekends. A great late night dining venue as well due to the open 24 hrs factor.
Last time I came here with 3 other people we all shared the 12 eggs omelet and went home very happy and full. Also, the all you can eat hash brown is pretty awesome. Overall a decent place but there are definitely better breakfast/brunch joints around Seattle. -

The only reason I would ever go back here is to cheer someone on trying to eat the 12 egg omelette. The food is average on a good day, and the service sucks. Plus, I had to basically clean my silverware myself before using it.
Further to that, if you are going to attempt the 12 egg omelette challenge, don't be fooled into thinking you will win a shirt or a free meal. Nope! That was all made up for the show. As a matter of fact, they really don't even acknowledge that you may be trying to beat 'Man vs Food', and do not give any credit to the show that, in my opinion, has kept this place going.Comment from Chris D. of Beth's Cafe 4/15/2012

This place gets great reviews, and I think I even saw it showcased on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, but when I went it SUCKED BUTT!!!!
I ordered the corned beef hash, which was clearly from a can (I eat a lot of hash, both canned and homemade, so I know WTF i'm talking about). Call me crazy, but I don't think it's very cool to be paying a premium for something spooned from a can.
I went here with my brother. We decided that I would get the hash, and he would get the breakfast burrito, and that we would split them both. However, once the food arrived and he saw the disgusting pile of slop from a can - that they call their corned beef hash - he refused to split his burrito with me!!! I don't know if the chef or my brother was the bigger douchebag in that situation, but either way I would never go back to Beth's cafe!!! -

Do I feel that my ability is compromised, that time has dulled my memories, that my senses look fondly upon a place I would not view with such appreciation should I cross the threshold today, simply because I have not eaten at Beth's in over a decade? No, but yes, but no! Founded in 1954? The Yelp was not. I was not. But Beth's was! And then I was, and then the Internet, and then the Yelp. So I have no qualms about remembering Beth's as Beth's is. Before the fire of '98, after the fire of '98, always with good, good food. Food for the soul, weary with the crises of the young at 4am. Food for the body, battered by substances foreign and domestic. Good for the memories, fond reflections still cherished. Good like home. Good like family. Good like Beth's.

A Seattle establishment for over 50 years, Beth's Cafe has been making customers happy with their enormous omelettes and "all-you-can-eat" hashbrowns. The staff is always ready to greet you with a smile, and the walls decorated with customers' drawings create a laid-back and unique atmosphere. A large menu offers a variety of options, from french toast and pancakes to biscuits and gravy, as well as non-breakfast options as well. Regardless of what you choose to eat *cough.cough.triple-bypass*,Beth's is sure to satiate your appetite for a warm, tasty meal.

I wish there was a 3 1/2 star rating. They are just above A-OK...but not a place that would be on my "gotta go" list.
It was mid-week, so there was no wait. The ambiance is definitely "local cafe". This visit I noticed they redesigned the menus with what looks like an overworked laying hen...which, with Beth's reputation of being one of THE best late night breakfast spots in Seattle, the design makes sense. The chickens will always have job security.
This visit I ordered the "ham scramble" with orange juice. Portions are huge especially the all-you-can-eat hash browns that comes with many of the items. I doubt I will ever have the courage or appetite to order the 12 egg omelette...which has been featured on Food Networks "Food Finds". However, like roadside oddities, I would like to see it some day.
Our server was fantastic. Actually...all the servers were excellent and fun and clearly enjoy their time at work. My hash browns came out a bit overdone and I asked if I could get new ones. Seriously...as quick as it took to take the plate to the dish bin, a fresh plate of hash browns came out. It was jaw dropping.
Our food order was accurate, our drinks were never empty and we never had to ask twice for anything. This was really one of the better nights of service I have had anywhere in a long time.

We're here!!! Okay.. This was numb. 10 on best Foods top 10 diners (Netflix) season 1 epi 4... Good diners episode
I was THOROUGHLY disappointed in this place. The decor was so cool, great concept. You can color on typing paper and they hang it on the wall. The better ones are to the right as you walk in and the others hang all over the other walls of the diner. These are changed out every week or less.
The diner was a little... dirty or old, couldn't determine which, but it was on television and I wanted to try it.
We were seated right away and the wait staff were amazingly attentive. We looked over the menu with a fine toothed comb and chose what we wanted to order. I, of course, had breakfast.
It looked amazing and I "quick tipped" that the food was good... (I was wrong) okay, the eggs... SPOT ON!! The hash browns (all you can eat) greasy as hell!! and the Chicken fried steak... I think it was Chicken fried rubber. I had rye toast, that was good.
Buzz had a chicken sandwich. He said it was good. As a "wanna be chef" I wouldn't ever bring a plate out of my kitchen that looked as bland and cafeteria as that, especially when my restaurant has been on more than one national TV show.
The baked potato was so overcooked it was brown!.
So, a Chicken Fried Steak breakfast, a diet soda, a chicken sandwich, a baked potato and a water $33.00 not including tip. That is a little much for diner food.
If you have read my other diner posts, let me briefly explain. I moved to Washington from the coast of Florida. (East coast) There, I was a regular at a diner where I could get a 32 oz tea, 2 eggs, 2 slices of toast and mashed potatoes, fries or hash browns for just under $5.00. I was a daily customer. When I took my kids, I added pancakes, scrambled eggs with cheese, fries with gravy, biscuits with gravy and 2 more 32 oz teas and still spent less than $20.00 and that was with a generous tip for our favorite waitress. To get eggs, a burger and fries and a drink at a diner shouldn't cost 4 hours wages. I also shouldn't have to leave another hour's wages to leave a tip.
This place has only one bathroom and it is co ed and was out of toilet paper. This place has a juke box blaring rock music almost as loud as what you would expect from Hard Rock Cafe.
I left here feeling as confused as the diner. It boasts itself as the best place to get breakfast after a hang over. If I had a hangover, the noise level would have turned me away.
There is little parking and this place is sandwiched in between 2 bars so park at your own risk.
I just think it is a little diner with a big head due to star status.
I took one star for only having one bathroom and no TP.
I took an additional star for lack of parking and safety in parking
I took a third star for cleanliness and noise level. (not just the music, but they sat us right by the bus station and they clean the plates right behind your ears and don't give a damn that you are sitting right there... food was flying everywhere and I should have washed Buzzie's shirt when we got home, but he probably got all the food off his back by leaning on the car seat.)
I give it one star because the food was not AWESOME, but mediocre, but the Eggs were spot on and I have found that to be a little difficult for most restaurants around this area.
I give it a second star for the great ideas of hanging the drawings and the amazing wait staff. I might even have given it an additional 1/2 star, but they don't have 1/2 stars on here and that would be pushing it! -
Review from Dylan M.
I'm not sure what it's like for breakfast or brunch but I thoroughly enjoyed coming here for a late night dinner. The restaurant itself is very quaint and their selection of foods is crazy. I split a 12 egg omelet with three other people and I was beyond filled. The 12 egg omelet also comes with unlimited hash browns which is nice if that somehow doesn't fill you. It seems like a great place to get a late night snack with friends. Little extra: they post your drawings on the wall which is cute (although some of the drawings were rather disturbing)

Love the food but hate the wait!
The food portions are enormous and delicious! and as I am a big fan of carbs, i love the AYCE hash brown!
I understand this place is like a dive-comfy place but they really need to clean up the "game room/waiting area." Its not fun cramming 10 people into that room for 30 minutes and having everyone move around as the bathroom is located in this area as well.
I only been to this place once but just watched a old episode of Man vs. Food on Netflix and I definitely want to go again! I would love to order one of the 12 egg omelette this time! -

For all the hype, I just don't get it. My food wasn't that great. I've been once and maybe I should try it again or maybe I should try it again with a hangover.
Our breakfast wasn't all that special. The flavor wasn't that standout and the place just had a vibe that wasn't for us. Maybe I'm just too old now? I'm 40 and I just didn't get the attraction to the place. -

This place has been featured on TV because it's no joke! If you are looking for a pig out spot in Seattle, make sure you get here.
I saw the TV spot and decided it was important to make it here for breakfast. I went with a couple buddies and we split the 12 egg "Triple Bypass" Omelette (Bacon, Sausage, Ham, Double Swiss & Double American Cheese). The cooks were giving us a hard time for not trying to tackle this beast individually, but we were all full even after splitting this monster.
At Beths' kids get the change to draw on their paper placemats. Some of these artistic creations now even line the walls. This provided us with some quality entertainment while we ate.
I only gave this place 3 stars because aside from the fact that the portions are obnoxious, the food is A-ok. So if you aren't looking to be in awe of the massive omelettes, it's not a MUST TRY place. -

I wanted to try this place out because it was on Man vs Food. The food was average. Not the homecoming style I was looking for. eggs had hardly any seasonings, hash browns were burnt on top and undercooked in the middle. Everything else was ok. Beth's is a place I probably would have loved in college. 6 months out, I would rather make my greasy spoon, late-night drunk food, early-morning hangover food in the comforts of my own home. Despite enticing entree selections like all you can eat hash browns and 12-egg omelettes, the food (excepting the addictive strawberry jam & toasted egg bread) is ... well, hard to finish. It's a nice touch that diners can take a break from scarfing down food by drawing a picture for Beth's wall, or playing an arcade game by the bathroom... but even with the crayons, the music, the games & the drunk-people-viewing, the bagel sandwich (a dam of ham, one dense, buttered egg, a melted mountain of cheddar cheese) is eminently unstomachable.
If it's your thing though, it's your thing. At 3am, dining options are limited; you're either here or at Denny's. Beth's is local, hipster, grungy, musical, young, fun, etc. Meanwhile, no one looks cool for checking into Denny's on their smart phone. On a lonely, quiet night, I would stop by for camaraderie and stay for... others to eat. Maybe steal a forkful of someone's greasy, bottomless hash browns.
Bottom Line: The menu tastes better than the food, but if you're cool, you have to be here. :) -

Went here on a Sunday morning before work, which can be a bit of a challenge. Nonetheless, we still were able to get a table in a short amount of time. The food was just what you would expect from a greasy spoon...greasy and plentiful. There is nothing small about the small omelets, which are six eggs and have a ton of whatever in them. And they come with endless hash browns, and even the small ones can be split between two people who aren't looking to gorge themselves (of course, I personally can on a good day lol)
The atmosphere is also what you'd expect from a diner. Not the best looking place, but it gets the job done. While you wait to be seated there's a small game room with pinball, although at times the room can be a bit crowded.
All in all, it's like the 5 Point Cafe but without the booze...and a bit friendlier staff. -

Beth's Cafe - the concept is good, the food could be better. I enjoyed my 12 egg Southwestern Exposure omelette overall, but it was much more quantity than quality. I know that quantity is the point of Beth's, but they really could up their score with a little more attention to ingredient quality and omelette structure. The hash brown base of the omelette destroys the flavor to a degree. I would prefer the hash browns on the side instead. The place could also be cleaner, but I agree that a sparkling place would ruin the vibe. All in all, I enjoyed Beth's and will be back again.

I'm totally upping my rating, as I came here on Sunday at around 7:30 AM for breakfast. Not only was the food absolutely tasty, with the just-right perfect amount of grease to soak up all the boozin' I did the night previous, but they had the most adorable awesome waitress taking care of us- She just happens to be an old childhood friend, so maybe i'm biased. But, nevertheless, I was happy, and had enough food for breakfast the next day, and the leftovers heated well.

Since there's no prize for finishing a 12-egg omelet, I was content with just splitting one of the six-egg varieties with my friend. We got the six-egg Northwestern Exposure omelet: smoked salmon, green onions, and cream cheese inside six eggs, with unlimited hash browns and toast (we got sourdough).
The omelet was fantastic. The cream cheese and the smokiness of the salmon popped in my mouth. The onion added color and more pleasing flavor here. Perhaps a little too much cream cheese for me, though. The hash browns were cooked well: golden brown exterior from the flattop and soft on the inside. Unfortunately, the hash browns needed more seasoning (salt and pepper would suffice). The toast was fine, but probably too much butter on there for me. We received two types of jelly on the side. One was strawberry, and the other appeared to be blueberry (or another type of berry). Both were very good.
Unfortunately, what will stick out in my mind more is the subpar service. It's not the server's fault here; it appeared she had to cover about 12-15 tables by herself. We had small cups of water, and despite our attempts for refills, they never came. We did manage more coffee, but overall, I felt like we were abandoned in the back corner of the house. This was not worth the $16 and change spent here.
The walls were completely laced with drawings. To me, it felt like a sea of graffiti, with maybe one or two really talented drawings sprinkled in. The claustrophobic effect of all that artwork really turned me off to the cafe's interior.
Beth's Cafe has a good omelet, but I was not a fan of everything else.Listed in: Man v. Food Places
