Oh, wedding.  My fiance & I are scheduled to become husband and wife next summer.  So much of our time lately has been spent on the myriad of madness that comes with planning a wedding.  We've visited countless venues trying to find the perfect setting.  Our original list of 20 is now down to two.  This hotel is one of them, and I have to admit I did not expect it to be.

The Best Western Port O' Call is a hotel located near the Calgary Airport.  From the outside, it is not an attractive hotel.  To be honest, it looks like an oversized Inn that you might find along a desolate road.  But as soon as you enter the hotel, everything changes.

Lobbies in hotels don't differ much, and this hotel is no exception.  It's nice, it's clean, and it's refreshing when contrasted with the exterior.  Throughout our several visits there, everything just looked nice and clean.

A little tip that you're likely to see me mention in my wedding related reviews.  It doesn't matter how nice the venue is, as long as the people you are dealing with are top notch.  And while the venue in this case is nice, the people make it extraordinary.

Port O' Call has several options to make your day great.  They have a place for outdoor ceremonies that is beautiful.  Their recently renovated Strathmore ballroom is gorgeous and their provided, also recently renovated, honeymoon suite is very nice.  They also have an indoor water park.  And that's just awesome.

I mentioned before the people.  We've been working with Jocelyn throughout our decision-making process.  She is fantastic and somewhat of a rarity in the business of wedding coordination.  In fact, the 2 locations we are deciding between only made it to the top because of people like Jocelyn.  Aside from being knowledgeable, she seems to genuinely care about how our wedding will be.  You can't go wrong there.

Finally, a few caveats.  The hotel is close to the airport, which means the outdoor ceremony will be interrupted by planes flying overhead.  This is unavoidable and shouldn't be overlooked.  Our food tasting didn't go great.  Nothing major, but aside from the food not being prepared exactly as it should (new chef), my fiance & I were given one main course and one desert to share.  Our other top choice included salad, main course and desert for each of us in their tasting.  Now this isn't huge, as several hotels flat out refuse to do tastings until after you have agreed to book with them.  Regardless, a full experience would have been nice.  In Jocelyn's defense, she did offer us a free buffet during our first visit which would have allowed us to taste a bit more of the food, but unfortunately we had to decline.

All in all, great hotel with great people.  Even the service we received during our tasting was fantastic.
