Shawarma is ubiquitous in Toronto, and of the 5+ restaurants I've tried, this is by far my favorite.  Too many places have meat whose taste and appearance indicate they've been spinning too long (or worse yet, sitting in a pile growing cold).  Here, I've always found it to be tender, flavorful, and fresh.  Plus the quantities are massive - $8 can get you a beef/chicken combo plate with rice, an enormous salad, and four small pieces of pita - enough for a meal-and-a-half.  The employees are very friendly, and judging from the interaction with customers, have a loyal clientèle.

This is my favourite shawarma place.   One thing we need to be clear on before we continue is that this is not a shawarma place - despite the name of the restaurant, it's actually a place that makes doner - Turksih version of the shawarma?  I'm sure people will say that they are the same thing, but past experiences tell me that doners taste a lot better than shawarmas.  They have always been very distinct in flavour everytime.

Just south of Bloor, blocks from the Bloor subway station, you'll find this obscure place on the westside of Yonge St.  It's well hidden - I always seem to miss the location because of the ever elusive black store sign of the restaurant.

Whenever I go in, I always order one of two things:  either the beef doner, or the beef doner plate.  The wrap I get with onions, tomato, hot sauce and tahini sauce.  The beef is amazing - my personal favourite.  What I like most, is that the flavour of the beef is something out of this world.  At odd times though, you'll probably get either of the chicken or beef that's been sitting on the spit for a few hours that may taste a little more bland than normal.  Don't fret... they sell enough of these things that they definitely go through a spit of meat daily.

I've also tried their Turkish pizza, that I'm not a fan of.  it's basically tomato sauce loaded with parsley (i think) and some other herbs, and some meat on pizza dough - no cheese :(.

Overall, if you eat shawarma, this place should be tried by all.  The service is very friendly. The prices are nominal for very healthy portions.

    This place is superstar!!!
