One of my favorite areas in the city to hang out in, the Cambie and Broadway corridor has kept growing, store after store, and with Best Buy there, it just makes my time spent in this area even more enjoyable. I love electronics stores, and Best Buy is one of the most organized in regards to their selection, and floor layout.
They have revamped their video game department, and just trying out demos of some games on their massive tv's is a joy, and sometimes a sale in it's own right. I find I never really ever have a problem finding what is advertised on sale in their flyer, and the staff is pretty helpful.
Your never pressured to buy anything, as they say the staff does not work on commission, and the other reason I shop here is they price match with other competitors, even their own other retail chain called Future Shop. And after I shop here, there is just so much other things to do in the neighborhood, like shop for grocery's, or go eat at the many restaurants in walking distance!
The location where it sits is nice, but the inside store looks dark and messy. There are so many items that need to be put on clearance already. The truth is if you're a techie then you know they're selling mostly out-dated and over-priced stuff. Looking for good prices on peripherals for your PC? You know this isn't the place to look. This place caters to people who want to buy assembled computers and electronics that don't need much fiddling around with anymore. It even offers Geek Squad installation and repair service for people who don't care to pay for over-priced quotations.
I purchased a home server and all it really needs is to follow the directions with the supplied installation discs with all the necessary cables right in the box, but of course they were offering me their installation service for an affordable $150 service fee. Wow, really. And don't get me started with their extended service where most will experience nothing while within the warranty and those that do will experience it within the manufacturer warranty.
So why do I still purchase here? Well, if you're going to purchase something that is sold everywhere and is aggressively price protected by the manufacturer to be sold only at MSRP (i.e. Apple), might as well purchase it right here where you get a:
(1) 14-day price protection on computers and peripherals; 30-days on other items.
(2) 90-day same as cash perk which means you can do whatever payment you want to give or none at all without interest as long as you pay the whole bill on the 90th day. Otherwise, a shitload of interest fee will rain down on your ass.
(3) Best Buy Rewards - every $400 in spending will give you 400 points which means a $5 certificate that you can use any which way in Best Buy to spend and repeat the process all over again.
Service and knowledge on a specific item varies depending on who you ask for assistance. The people at the customer service section are nice and helpful. If you have a genuine case for concern or a simple price-match, they will help you out any which way they can.
I would have to reiterate to watch out for pricing because they can get carried away especially with Apple accessories which are being sold more than what the Apple store is selling it for. Which I believe they are doing on purpose because they know they can't sell below Apple's MSRP. And if you're smart enough to price-shop before heading to Best Buy, you know they will match the price of any authorized dealer and even beat it by 10% of the difference. So there you go. You get to grab the item lower than MSRP. Good for you. Good for Best Buy. :)
Well after a couple of purchases here I find the staff very friendly and very hard to find. They also lack cashiers, I find it rather ironic that such a big store has only one cashier with a huge lineup every time I have made purchase. So they get 3*... They do have some of the best prices and even better than across the line down south.

I have yet to make a big purchase here, but I know the day is coming very soon... For the most part… Read more »
Like any man I get all tingly inside when I enter a shop filled with electronics...some things I guess are just part of our DNA...Best Buy always gets me going..I have sudden urges to buy big screen tvs and trip out my pad with a wicked surround sound system and have a computer in every room...thank god I cancelled my Best Buy card....
I also have a little problem with buying dvds and they have a great selection and they are the most affordable you can get...I have personally kept this location open with my dvd buying addiction....
I wouldn't say that service is anything to Yelp at...but you will get a few "can I help you find anything" remarks if you are looking at bigger cost items like TV's or stereos... but when you actually do need help no one seems to be around...
A poor-mediocre choice of products/brands and staff generally have to ask someone else any question you have which typically results in 'no, we've never had that in stock'.
One of the newest Best Buy's to enter the Vancouver Market - it has a unique layout. You walk in upstairs, and have to walk down a flight of stairs (or take an elevator) to get to the main store. They have a good layout making sure you walk through those compulsive shopping areas (like movies and music).
The staff is super knowledgeable and friendly... and (*drumroll please*).... they DO NOT work on commission! (yay!)... finally, a electronics store where you don't feel pressured!!
