When ever I want a chocolate treat, this is were I head to. I'm always tempted to get a box of chocolates for my self but somehow , I'm able to control myself and a stay controlled at least until I'm out of the store. (savouring my first bite of my decadent sweet treat) I always get the speciality chocolate bar, and a mini box which holds up to three little chocolates, of my selected favorites. They are fabulous. The little mini box makes me feel so special, a treat just for me, by me. ; ) I've tried other stores and none of them come close to Bernard Callebaut, you can really taste the difference, Secretly good ole Bernard Callebaut has turned me into a chocolate connoisseur.

Bernard is a bit of an upscale chocolate place. They have a huge variety of small chocolates and certainly hold a pretty high standard. A perfect place to buy small gift bags of chocolates.
I remember buying maybe 7-8 small packets of chocolates for Christmas with a decent variety in each. Some truffles, some nut based, some dark, some milk. The chocolates are usually quite recently made and have expiry dates to them (usually 10-15 days, maybe less for truffles). That's because they don't use preservatives. It's serious stuff. They've got this awesome looking cigar shaped chocolate which I gifted to my Cuban friend (yea, sad joke).. but I hope he liked it!
I love this place, but it's way too costly. I'm not a chocoholic, so I would probably spend my money on other stuff that really mattered to me. However, if you're looking for the best quality of chocolate - look no further. It's much better than Godiva and other stereotypical chocolate shops in a mall.Listed in: Edmonton's High Street

We all know it: the reason you came to Canada at all, be it as an immigrant or tourist, was to get chocolates from Bernard Callebaut. They don't have any preservatives or wax in them, meaning you have to eat them within 7 days or so. There's your excuse, if you needed one. :)
They pretty much melt in your mouth instantaneously and lead to orgasm. They have like a zillion flavors, but their packaging includes labeled photos so you know what you're getting in to. Can we please get this back in the States? -

I'm a bit of a chocolate snob. I appreciate a good-quality dark chocolate. Bernard Callebaut is known for having some of the best chocolate around, but I just don't get the hype. I was in the store the other day, craving chocolate and hoping that maybe I was wrong about Bernard's. I mean, it's so expensive, it must be good, right?
The store is actually pretty nice, and the front window was all decked out for Halloween. Some of the Halloween gifts were under $10, and there were other inexpensive gifts for graduations or weddings, like chocolate cigars. They also had some chocolate cell phones and CDs, which I thought was rather cheesy, but the chocolate grand piano for $80 was rather impressive. The keys were made out of white chocolate. I really wanted it, but I couldn't come up with a single reason to justify buying a chocolate grand piano for myself. If you can think of one, please let me know.
I was dissapointed in the selection of individual chocolates. Many of them were made with hazelnuts, which I can't have, because I'm allergic. I ended up buying 7 individual chocolates that cost me about $8. None of them really blew me away. I've definitely had better, and I even like Purdy's better, and that would have cost me about $5.
Personally, I think Purdy's has the best individual chocolates, and an Edmonton-based store called Chocolate Exquisite has the best dark chocolate I've ever had, and it totally blows Bernard's chocolate right out of the water! Bernard's is deifinitely high quality though. I think it's worth a try, and whether you like it or not is simple a matter of taste. -

Just because something is expensive doesn't mean it is good. Bernard Callebaut chocolates are both good - and expensive. The chocolates are hand crafted into different shapes, both with and without nuts. Sometimes the selection is limited because the chocolates are made through a very fine process and in smaller quantities.
If you are looking for a gift for the chocolate lover in your life, there is a good selection here of baskets and various shapes of things made from chocolate that range in price from inexpensive to ridiculous.
There are other chocolate shops in Edmonton that offer better value for the price. However, the name Bernard Callebaut to many chocoholics implies quality and would definitely be appreciated. So use your judgment and balance your budget. -

Bernard's has been a household name in my family since I was little. My mom's one request at Christmas and birthdays is a box of Bernards which usually doesn't last more than a day thanks to 4 chocolate deprived mouths. Their selection has changed over the years, and I'm very sad that they no longer carry my favorite, a white chocolate "Animal Farm", but I still go back any time there is a special occasion, especially if I am stumped for a gift!
Bernards makes beautiful chocolates with no waxes or preservatives. They carry a very large selection of single chocolates and truffles. There are also gift boxes and large milk chocolate molded items (think Easter bunnies, and in Alberta, cowboy hats). I am very glad I don't live within walking distance of this shop anymore as it was becoming a regular stop on my way from the gym! And really the two just don't mix. However, I am already looking forward to Christmas and the usual Bernards pig out!
The chocolates are a bit more expensive than what you would find from a mass produced Chocolaterie, but they are so worth it for the odd treat. -

Bernard Callebaut is the gold standard of quality chocolate. I am not afraid to say that no chocolate produced by any other company comes even close! What Chanel is to fashion, Bernard Callebaut is to chocolate.
Whenever I am in the mood to indulge myself or a special person in my life, I come to this chocolaterie. The girls working here are friendly and helpful, and make the trip to this chocolate heaven even more special. The selection of individual chocolates is great, and you can choose among about 50 varieties. I really appreciate the fact that Bernard Callebaut chocolate is made without any preservatives and colour additives. Because of that, it has to be consumed very fast, but I've never had a problem with that :)
A medium size box with about 30 pieces of chocolate costs around $80 which is not cheap but definitely worth it if you want to sweep someone of their feet. If you just want to indulge yourself, come in and buy several pieces or a small box, and savour every bite! -

This is my favourite chocolate shop in town. Every girl must have one. You can buy just a piece of almond bark or a truffle for the road, and it's a great place to pick up a little gift box for a friend or client. All chocolate is made fresh and melt-in-your-mouth. There are lots of seasonal goodies and gift baskets. It's right next door to a cafe where you can get Bernard Callebaut hot chocolate - yes, melted chocolate in a cup. It's heavenly. After have the chocolate here, there is absolutely no point in wasting money on cheap chocolate bars or dollar store Easter bunnies. Don't waste the calories. Save them up for an experience that will make you feel you've died and gone to Willy Wonka heaven.
