Review from Meg B.

Hands down the best cheese shop I've ever been to. I was so full of cheesy goodness when I left. The gentleman behind the counter asked me a few simple questions about what sorts of cheeses I tend to gravitate to and went from there.
My palate and appreciation of cheese has been expanded on immensely. -

For those who read my reviews, they know I very rarely (if ever) give a five-star review. Benton Brothers Fine Cheese Shop has impressed me every time I've been there and I think I'm in danger of becoming an addict or at the very least spending a good chunk of change every visit.
On my last visit, I actually went to both locations. I started out at the one on West 41st and picked up three cheeses. Heck, I was in the neighbourhood, why not? I thought I would have some nice blue cheese with crackers & bread for dinner - or a snack, depending on how good I could be at saving some of it for another day.
Then, on my way home, I passed by the Cambie store and decided to stop and get some charcuterie to go with my cheese. Kind of a mistake (according my wallet, not my appetite!) I ended up getting some more cheese, as well. The selection is really very good but the staff's knowledge of cheese (and everything else in the shop!) is what really blows me away. You can tell them what type of wine or beer you've got and they will recommend some excellent cheeses to make the perfect accompaniment. They really know their stuff! Not only that, but you can try a few different kinds to make sure you really like what you're going to buy.
I walked out of the shop after spending just over $75 at both locations. I had a selection of blue cheese, goat cheese, some soft, some firm & crumbly, some sharp, some mild... plus some wild boar & rosemary sausage, some hot soprasetto... and some olives. So, I called up my girlfriend to come over for a wine & cheese "tasting" so I wouldn't scarf it all in one sitting. We were in cheese heaven! Can't wait for my next visit to try some new varieties. -

NEW: CAMBIE LOCATION at 18th and Cambie, very nice!
Not as many cheeses as Les Amis Du Fromage, but great staff.
They'll sample any cheese for you. The tastings are more generous than Les Amis, and served on plates, not wax paper. The cheeses are sold wrapped in paper, then plastic, keeping them fresh a little longer.
While their selection could use more, what they have is great and very well-thought. They have SOME other items like oils, pates, etc, and, again, they buy with a clear purpose and vision behind the products, reflecting the quality of their shop.
It's a great place and I'll be frequenting them often -- on Cambie, anyhow! -

If you love cheese and charcuterie, this is a place to come.
The cheeses. So many. So many choices. At least they let you try them. So delicious.
We bought 4 cheeses and 4 meats. A lovely brie that was so velvety. This gorgeous soft white beauty called Grey Owl. A sharp complex blue called Queso de Valdeon. And a hard smokey gouda type.
For the meats a serrano ham, an Italian salami-type that I cannot spell. The foie gras mousse. And a pheasant-pistachio terrine.
Enough for two people, with some left over. $65. So pricey. But so so worth it.
I shall return.Listed in: Top of the Heap - Food

If you love cheese, you'll feel like a kid in a candy store at Benton Brothers. You might actually clap your hands together with glee as you stand at the counter and are asked if you'd like to sample any of the cheeses. Don't feel intimidated. The ultra knowledgeable staff will walk you through cheeses that you are unfamiliar with and gauge what you might like. We walked out with a comte and a bleu cheese.
After perusing the Benton Brothers website, I am now fantasizing about ordering a small cheese tray from their catering menu just for me and my wife. And about giving or receiving a cheese filled gift basket. Yum! -

mmm...for the love of CHEESE!
I always say that anything with Brie tastes better but with a recent Groupon in hand I discovered a wonderland of new cheeses at Benton Brothers.
First of all I'm not a cheese expert, but I do know I love it. When you walk into this quaint little cheese shop its easy to feel a bit intimated especially with the wide selection of cheeses available. The brothers are quick to make you feel right at home though. I told them what kind of cheeses I generally like and they were able to make delicious suggestions and give samples too! I discovered a new LOVE for a dutch Gouda called Parrano..it almost has a hint of caramel to it (anything with caramel tastes better too!).
I also discovered that good cheese not cheap, but its worth it. I guess if its expensive you learn to savour it even more. So, if you're looking for your standards is good to go to costco but if you want to a special treat yourself this is place to go.
The store also carries a small selection of crackers, condiments, olives, cured meats, and dried fruits. All they needed was fresh baguette and I would have truly felt Parisian as I left with my small bag of cheese. -

well YET again another cheese shop review. I think I may have a problem. The Benton brothers in Kerrisdale decided to open up a cheese shop to my delight. In this shop you will find an ever-changing variety of some of the best cheeses the world has to offer. Enjoy the rustic and olivey sheeps milk cheeses of the Basque, the tart nutty goat cheeses of Frances Loire Valley, milky and pungent washed rind cheeses from Burgundy along with the best of BC, Quebec and Alberta and many more. Today they had a sale on Cherve noir so I scooped some up along with a triple creme brie that I cant wait to wash down with a glass of preseco! yum

I went here with the family after buying one of their Groupons. I assumed this would result in worse service, but it didn't seem to. Good pate.
