What does Engineering have in common with cheese?
Andrew and Jonah Benton, of course.
I attended the grand opening of The Benton Brothers new location in Cambie Village. This is a labour of love for Andrew and Jonah, who once were Civic Engineers and graduated from Queens University. It is obvious that cheese is a passion for the pair: both were busy pouring glasses of complimentary wine and offering tasters to customers of all the different cheeses Benton Brothers has to offer. My favorite was the Cave Aged Gruyere Swiss - a milder yet supper tasty cheese that had an almost crunch to it.
This is the second location of Benton Cheese to open in Vancouver, the original is located at 2104 W. 41st Ave in Kerrisdale. Jonah tells me that this location is the largest of the two.
Aside from serving world-class cheeses they also sell deli meats and pates. But not just any deli meats would do here. They smoke their own meats in-house and always use only the freshest ingredients. You can even pick up a sandwich on the go here - made with homemade sauces on fresh artisan bread. They also cater - and they have gift boxes available for purchase ranging from $35 to $70. Not a bad Christmas gift... (hint, hint).
Something to look forward at this location: Wine and cheese pairing classes! I for one can't wait. You can keep track of all their events coming up at this location (and the one in Kerrisdale) via their twitter or you can read their blog. I'm being told that all sort of surprises are coming our way! -

Who doesn't love some good cheese? (Aside from those unfortunate lactose intolerants)
Party called for a cheese and wine potluck. There was no way I was gonna buy the mainstream garbage from Stupidstore. Popped and here and with the knowledgeable guidance of the guy working here, I picked a goat cheese and a blue cheese (forget which ones).
People loved the cheeses, as did I. Overdoses galore of cheese, bread, wine, and DQ ice cream cake and homemade brownies.
Good night for all. Oh the power of cheese. -

I have never been to a place that made my mouth water on walking in. I love the strange smells of cheese and freshly cut pepper salami. MMMMMMMMMM!!! I just wish I had a bigger budget as things in here are quite pricey. The staff was very helpful and friendly and helped me pick the right combo of meats and cheeses.

Fantastic! Such friendly and knowledgeable service and, of course, the cheese! Some of the best in the world!
This is the newest location for Benton Brothers, which until now have only been situated in Kerrisdale (not the easiest place to get too.) I'm so glad they've opened this second location in Cambie Village.
If you're a connoisseur or you're new to fine cheeses this is a great place to go. The staff can answer any questions you have - about flavour, provenance, pairing, process, etc. and will happily give you samples to compare and make the right choice. Just wonderful. -

Danger! This place is the perfect cheese shoppe. I stumbled upon it quite by mistake and walked out with the two of the best cheeses I have ever tasted. The Mull Island Cheddar is sublime! The folks behind the counter know their stuff......and the sandwiches are pretty decent, too.
If you love cheese then you must check this place out. This Cambie location is convenient....hmmmm, maybe I'll go back tomorrow. -

When you walk into Benton Brothers you might not know anything about cheese except for the fact that it's tasty and goes well with wine and fresh bread. When you walk out of the store, you feel like you just became an expert on this fine food that you now just can't live without.
Jonah & Andrew Benton and the their staff really know their cheeses and they will take the time (I was there for 45 min to buy 3 cheeses) to find the best cheese for you and your taste. Very knowledgeable, very passionate, very patient. I know I'll make the trip up to Cambie and go out of my way to buy my cheese from there because it's the experience that will bring me back here again and again.
