I came in hoping to find Tahini. Not only did this little "convenience" store have tahini, they had 3 different sizes! The store has much more than you would ever expect from a neighborhood corner store. The sandwiches/paninis from the deli are out of this world. I had the special last week, which was one of the best sandwiches I've ever tasted. I love this store, and the family that runs it is super friendly and helpful.

Ever since I got spending allowance from my parents I would go here after school to get their baby Benny Burger (deli style sandwich and has less ingredients than their regular one) which was only $1.9 back in the day. The price has definitely gone up for the baby Benny, which is now over $3 and the owners also said that I'm too old to get the baby Benny now.

I get the regular Benny burger now which is $3.99 excluding tax. This burger uses Portuguese bun with Dijon/regular mustard and Mayo spread, iceberg lettuce, tomatos, onions, mortadella meat, and cheese (forgot what type). They also got daily specials and sell different types of Italian products that you'll never find in other stores.

Tip: Ask the deli person to heat the sandwich up before grilling. Believe me, this makes the burger more delicious.

Great little place tucked away in historic Strathcona.  I come here for the sandwiches.  Head to the back of the store and place your order at the deli and in a few minutes you can enjoy a lovely sandwich on bread or in a bun.

While your are waiting for your sandwich, walk around the store and check out all the imported and locally made specialties that you also see at Whole foods or on Commercial Drive.

I hope these types of establishments survive into the future.  Its more fun than buying a sandwich at Tim Hortons.

I come here wayyy too many times a week! It's less than a block from my house, but that's not the only reason I frequent it so much.

Benny's has a great selection of groceries. It's a wonderful spot for  sandwiches (I'm a panini freak), there is an excellent selection of cheese, meat, frozen sausage (I took some lamb with sage home last week... yum), and frozen perogies that almost rival my great aunt martha's.

Pretty freakin good for the place around the corner. This tiny place has so many quality items to offer!!

And the service is always, always incredibly helpful and friendly - you can really tell they care about their customers and the neighborhood!

This was an interesting find in Strathcona.  Who knew a little deli like this would blow me away.

Family ran business with lot of Italian imported goods and deli in the back.  Some of the stuff I seen here was pretty cool.  One thing in particular that I found pretty interesting was this super bright neon yellow pasta.  We are talking like golden coloured pasta.  Being a chef, I have never seen this kind of pasta.  Any guess?  Corn and rice pasta, which I totally gotta try sometime.  They also got some canned san marzanos tomatoes!  That's a dinner meal right there! mmmm.  Fresh Gnocchi, canned goods, drinks, Cokes in the old coke bottles, ready to eat sandwiches, and much more.

The deli in the back has daily specials I believe.  I hope to yank the specials list next time I'm here.  This time we had the Benny Burger, not really a burger, but a deli style one lol.  Mortadella, Edam cheese, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, mayo, choice of dijon or grainy mustard, in a grilled ciabatta bun for 3.99!  You can't beat that!

Tip: Ask them to heat it up before they grill it so the bread stays soft on the inside.

The biggest little grocery store in Strathcona... they seem to have so many items that you wouldn't expect.. and priced low like the big guys..

Fresh baked goods, fresh house made Italian sandwiches that have a bit of local fame. But you cant beat the super friendly and sweet owners that are the kids of the many generations dating to 1917, it like one of the oldest stores in the city..

Come for the deli / grocery / Italian import goods - stay for the conversation!

Benny's has been at this location for three generations, since the original Italian immigrant patriarch won the then ice-cream parlour in a poker game! If you're lucky and have some time - the senior Mr Benny will be at the cash register and holding court - telling colourful stories about the area's unique history, bootleggers, hobo jungles and the like!

Awesome deli selection, fresh baked artisan breads, import goods..

FYI, Benny's are close on Sundays!

Better known as Benny's Market, this store is hidden away but well known amongst the residents of Strathcona. It's a homely convenience store that sells typical canned and dry goods, and has a deli in the back that makes amazing cheap sandwiches.

The store looks like a small apartment building from the outside, and in fact it probably is host to several families living in the upper quarters. But the space is small, cramped and homely, with a rustic charm that makes it feel like the store owner/cashier is everybody's favorite uncle.

The deli is great, serving many different cheese and meats, and selling $5 sandwiches on homemade Portuguese buns. There's no real place to eat them, save for a couple lawn chairs outside, but perfect for on the go stop-ins.

Love this spot. This whole neighborhood is just  surprising. A quiet and close-knit patch away from the hubub of Chinatown and Hastings. The homes are beautiful, and Benny's Market seems to serve a dual function of stocking really nice specialty items (canned artichokes, olives, great pastas and grains, good organic meats, etc.) and serving up a delicious cheap lunch. There's a laundry list of sandwich options at the back counter, along with some ready to grill pre-made paninis, which are what I always go for. (GET THE HOT SPOT SANDWICH!) Such a great friendly market, maybe not for produce, but everything else.
