I arrived in Vancouver a little early and my hotel would not check me in yet so I decided to kill some time and grab a good breakfast. The lady at the front desk recommended I check out the Bellagio Cafe so I took her advice and wandered off into Vancouver.

It was about 8:30am when I found the cafe and I was surprised to see no one inside and got a little scared about what I was about to get myself into. But from the moment I walked in my fears disappeared. The place was very sophisticated looking and it reminded me of Little Cafes that I saw in Italy. There was one TV playing beautiful italian scenery and one playing the news which worked for me. I had the breakfast special which was 2 eggs, italian sausage, hash browns and multigrain toast. The eggs were well cooked, the italian sausage was a nice change from regular breakfast sausage, but the hash browns were seasoned a bit too much. The meal came quickly and the waitress was always on top of my coffee fill-up and even offered to pour my cup to go. My meal came out to $13 and that seemed like a fair price to me.

I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to try a classic breakfast with a nice italian twist. The service was good so I don't really see why everyone is complaining about it.

The only Italian restaurant I know that doesn't serve garlic bread. :(

Me and my friend went here for lunch. They were half full. Got there around 12:30ish. We ordered drinks and foods. And 30 minutes after still no food. So we asked what was going on. Our server said it will be ready in few minutes. Waited li'l bit more. 40 minutes after, still no food. We told them we are cancelling our orders. And I heard the kitchen staff said, it's coming out now. We still said no, because we had to get back to work. And c'mon 40mins! My friend just ordered salad, did they have to go to the farm and picked the leaves for the salad?! Usually the service is pretty good. I'm not sure what happened to them today.

The service here was very poor. Doesn't matter how good the quality of food and drink is or how good the atmosphere is... if it takes 30 minutes before you even take my order and then another 20 minutes to bring me my bill after I'm done eating, I'm not patronizing your establishment. Sorry.

Service slow killed this place in the review. I would say this was really one of the slowest places I have ever been to. I want to blame the waitress we had, since we did see other people getting waited on. We sat outside and ordered the breakfast special, eggs, toast, meat and potatoes for $10. It was nothing special. I asked for a grapefruit juice and had to ask for it three times and then finally asked the waitress for the other table. Our waitress never came back to check on us once she dropped the food off. I had a good time because I was on vacation with my husband, the weather was good and we were on the street, but that doesn't really make up for lack of service.

The people at the table next to us were complaining when we sat down, this should have been giant warning shot across our table. They were asking for more coffee, they never got it. They asked for the bill, and finally they got up and went inside for it. They came out and walked by us talking about  how bad service was. That was a different waitress from ours. Let this be your warning shot.

There are better places to eat, I would look for them next time.

A cafe / brunch spot across from the Van Art Gallery on Hornby with delicious coffee, decent food and poor table service.

My friend had his eye on trying it as he noticed a few times that it was busy around lunch, so we came for Sunday brunch today. Our servers were kind, but very inattentive to us and to all tables. We had to flag them down a few times for our coffees and waters, and we waited about 45 minutes before we were served our dishes. My growling tummy was very unimpressed.

I had the White Tuscan Frittata with spinach and mushrooms, which was quite bland. Hash browns were well-seasoned and crispy. My friends had the Italian Omelet and the Full Bellaggio Breakfast, which they seemed to enjoy.

If I could offer one suggestion, it would be to increase staffing for busy hours, like Sunday brunches... then I might consider coming back.

I am giving 4 stars because of a great treatment we got during both game 6 and 7 in playoffs! Owner and serving staff went out of their way to make us feel welcomed! And I really appreciated it, since at that time all of the other restaurant rolled their eyes at me when I asked - do you have a table for 2?! Their looks were something in between - ''you moron, people were sitting here since 1pm'' and ''how dear you disturbing me, I am busy standing here looking pretty".
Food was ok, nothing spectacular, although I was very pleasantly surprised with the dessert- warm bread with hazelnut creme and mascarpone. In translation it is a huge pizza filled with nutella and mascarpone...don't even try to eat it yourself, it's big. I liked it, simple flavours and tasty. Half of that dessert became a very well balanced breakfast next morning:)
Interior is very cozy and nice...
    I will be back:)

Weak, so weak. They do have good things going on, an amazing location, a nice looking restaurant with a great patio - so what's the problem. I think it's just a general lack of passion. They have a great little Italian vibe going on, 2 TV screens on the inside (which I hate in restaurants), one plays Italian scenery, fine, the other plays NFL football...WTF?!?!

The staff here are brutal, just a step up from red robin (grrr). Just a complete lack of interest or care. Definite potential, but a miserable failure because no effort is made, food is....meh, lacking any pizzazz.

An easy skip considering how many awesome spots are located within 2 blocks. Boo Bellagio, step it up or move the hell out so someone can take advantage of your wicked real estate.

the service has always been pretty good, but my main concern with this place is the kitchen/kitchen staff. i've been here multiple times, and the food's been pretty good for the most part, but there have been a few times where i haven't been satisfied.

once, i found huge pieces of egg shells in my eggs benny. i'm talking HUGE, could have choked on them and died if i didn't luckily see them and pick them out/stop eating. i pointed it out to our waiter, and he apologized profusely and even gave me my meal for free, which was really nice with him (hence my point from before - amazing waiters/waitresses, shitty kitchen staff).

another problem i encountered with the kitchen staff is when i was having brunch with one of my friends, and he requested that the egg yolk on his eggs benny be served soft instead of medium (because they specified on the menu that all eggs bennys are made with medium-poached eggs for some reason). the waitress said she'd ask the kitchen staff if that were possible, went to go ask them, and came back and informed us that wasn't possible. uhhh... really? do they have pre-made molds back there for their eggs, and is the kitchen staff so lazy that they can't make them individually and serve the yolks soft, like they're supposed to be?

other than the kitchen staff, the service has been pretty good for the most part, the patio is amazing (although it does get too hot at times) and great for people watching, since it's right on the sidewalk, and the meals aren't cheap, but reasonably priced. i discovered a bellagio by canada place, and personally, i like that one better, but this one isn't bad.

How does the song go? Three dressed up as a nine.

I loved the song, and its title describes this restaurant so well. Looks fancy and interesting from the outside, but there's not much substance to it.

Working at UBC in Robson Square for a week, I ventured to some new (to me) lunch spots. This was the first. The servers seemed uninterested in serving, I had to flag them down for pretty much everything. The Club sandwich was nothing to write home about, but the price certainly was not cheap. The decor was cluttered and gawdy. I considered ending my meal with a relaxed cup of coffee, but just didn't want to spend any more time there. Definitely not on my memorable lunch list.

The food is relatively good but the weekend breakfast service is so slow (maybe it's a Canadian thing), I almost missed my flight, I was waiting for a vegeterian omelette for around 45 minutes, it was slightly ridiculous, the ladies working there are nice, especially Kristina, the blond girl. It is located in a central spot, opposite the Art Gallery so does get quite busy especially if events are on. I would come back if I had nowhere to rush but if you have things planned and are not as laid-back as the locals, you better go next door to another coffee shop and grab something quick.

Bellagio is a fun little cafe nestled across from the Art Gallery.

It is owned by the same company that operates both the Glass Cafe and Cafe Artigiano. It is the more modest of the three places and provides a fun atmosphere for either after work appetizers and drinks or a full on dinner.

The times that we have gone we've opted for dinner and have always left happy with our choices.

My favorite appy here is the Calamari. It's a large portion and it's never too chewy or soggy. In other words they do it right ;)

For a main you can't go wrong with their  sandwiches. The Roasted Lamb Siciliano is to drool over. Succulent and with a freshness that wont leave you feeling like you're drowning in meat.

They also do a pretty good thin crust pizza. we opted for the Rustic (all meat!) and were happy with our choice, ie none left.

The drinks are pretty good as well. They do a pretty good dirty martini and the wine selection is not bad.

The best part as some other reviewers have noted is the people watching. It's best to get a table outside, good all year long as they have heating lamps strategically placed to keep you nice and toasty.

This restaurant has an interesting vibe when you come in: homey, classy, warm like an old cafe in Italy, but somewhat confusing; one tv is playing a video of landscapes in Italy, another is playing Jerry Springer.

Nonetheless, I had a pleasant experience here.  We were seated right away by our smiling and pleasant hostess.  Our server was prompt and courteous and our water glasses were never empty.  My friends enjoyed brunch while my boyfriend and I shared a Margherita Calzone.  All the menu items tried this visit were much enjoyed.

There's nothing that really stood out with this restaurant, however, I enjoyed the relaxed ambiance (holiday Monday) and the food was tasty.  If I was in the area, I'd probably come again.

    Dates of Visits: October 2nd & 4th, 2009

As visitors in a foreign city, we trusted our hotel concierge for breakfast recommendation besides the hotel's restaurant or room service. We were recommended 2 places just a few blocks from our hotel. The Bellagio Café was the first place we tried.

The restaurant is charming. It has an old European ambiance to it. Books of all subjects: cities around the world, arts, photographs, food and cultures are displayed around the restaurant's dining room for the guests' enjoyment. What a great way to strike a conversation with your friends.

We love this place so much that we came here twice during our 5 days stay in Vancouver. The breakfast menu offers the familiar breakfast items such as eggs with breakfast meats; French toasts, frittatas, and eggs benedicts of all kinds. I am addicted to the hash browns that came with my breakfast. Unlike the American grated shoe strings hash browns, this is puffy, crispy oven roasted cubes of potatoes that are seasoned perfectly and oh so delicious. I convinced my travel partner to go back for the second time so that I could have one more hash brown fix before heading to the YVR airport to head home.

I like the way the restaurant dining room is setup. It has decorative items that resemble a Tuscany's backdrop with fake balconies and windows displayed on the walls. Cute! Most of all, I like the noises coming from within this restaurant: the cappuccino machines, servers speaking French to the customers, diners speaking all kinds of languages (I heard, Italians, German, Americans and British English when I was there) and the speakers streaming Italian songs by Andrea Bocelli in the background. They captured the essence of a typical European bistro although these small touches may seem a little cliché for some diners. I enjoyed my visit here as well as the great meal to help solidified my memories of my vacation in Vancouver

I haven't been to this place in over a year because every time I went I was utterly unimpressed. The food is not worth the price, the staff is rude, the service is slow and the entire experience is not worth my lunch hour. I cannot believe how expensive it is considering what you are served.

Last time I went it took forever for even our drinks to come. Once they did, they were very small and expensive. I managed to finish my drink in two or three decent sized gulps. Really not enjoyable.

For the cappuccino alone I'm upgrading my rating to 5 stars!

I've been back a few times since my first review, and I swear the caps. keep getting better!

Tried some different things on the menu and it has all been good as well, but still in the 3-4* range since some flavour balancing is needed: e.g. some dishes are too salty, others come off on the bland side -- but still tasty, mind you.  I especially liked the focaccia wraps/sandwiches.  It's presented on a wooden board, which is really unique and IMHO facilitates eating the wrap quite nicely.

I am, however, getting a little frustrated with some of the servers, some of whom seem to not get the concept of what "serving" means (i.e. it doesn't mean acting like how you would if your mother had just told you to stop being a female dog to your younger brother and go give him his sandwich or else you're not going to be going out partying with your friends tonight; nor does it mean looking like you just finished partying for the night and really can't be bothered to do anything but you need to pay off that wicked credit card bill from all of the crantinis you just chugged the night before at Loden while hoping to pick up a sugar daddy)... if they're not careful I'm going to start downgrading them... but for now, because of that cappuccino, they'll get 5 stars.

Visited Bellagio for lunch with some workmates a couple of days ago.  I think it's safe to say I won't be going back.

I ordered a margherita pizza (it's a good way to measure how good an Italian restaurant is).  I don't think I've ever eaten such a bland pizza in my life.  The size was good for the price, but I could barely distinguish any flavours in the pizza.  Bland cheese, flavourless tomatoes (less tomato slices, more fresh tomato sauce please!) and a scant smattering of basil.  The base was dense and chewy, not light and thin like a good margherita should be.

I took half the pizza away with me and the packaged it up in a styrofoam container.  Seriously?  In a paper bag would have been infintely better.  It seemed totally unecessary to use this big styrofoam container (I hate styrofoam at the best of times; unnecessary use of it really grates me).

Some of the pastas looked OK (the carbonara in particular) and the service was fine - but nothing was enough to redeem the terrible pizza.

I really wanted to try Caffe Artigiano that's just a couple doors down but fiance wanted a full breakfast to last him through all the shopping that was about to take place so he won.

This place has a really casual yet sophisticated feel to it, with food that matched. Fiance ordered the full breakfast that included two sausages, ham, bacon, three eggs, toast, mushrooms, and potatoes. Yes, he polished it all off and started picking off my plate. I ordered the white egg omelet stuffed with spinach and mushroom that was accompanied by toast and hash as well. I finished my breakfast with a macchiato that was pure deliciousness. I should have ordered mimosa's as well, because as I looked around many tables had cute little carafes of OJ with their own individual sized champagne bottles to mix on your own.

Our waitress was friendly but the service was lacking somewhat as it got busier, but we will definitely be coming back on our next trip to Vancouver, BC.

Great little place just opposite the Vancouver Art Gallery. A friend and I were en route to Marcello (see previous review) when we decided we couldn't wait another hour to eat. Thankfully, Bellagio was on the way.

Despite the large storefront, there is a very intimate air about Bellagio. The tables each have a decent amount of space between, making for a more intimate atmosphere. This particular evening, we just snacked on bruschetta to prevent us from feeling the effects of our pre-dinner martinis too early. The drinks were nice and strong without being too sweet. Filled to the brim, they washed down the bruschetta nicely.

The crowd this particular late summer evening was mostly of the tourist-y sort but there were some clear regulars in the midst. Will definitely try and have a full meal here soon.

We needed to get breakfast quickly on a Sunday morning.  We had to check out of our hotel and get to the airport early enough to make a flight back to L.A..  Again, we asked the guy at the desk in the hotel where to get a good, and fast breakfast.  This was his suggestion after we said no to the in hotel dining option.  Again, it was a good suggestion.

The service was very prompt and quite helpful.  The atmosphere  nice with old encyclopedias stacked everywhere.  My husband had the healthy breakfast with fruit, yogurt and more fruit and toast.  I had the unhealthy but totally delicious French toast.  The French toast was made with actual French bread sliced moderately thick.  It was great!  And my healthy husband decided that he would split it with me after all.  The coffee was also good, and the refills were quick in coming.  If we are downtown in this area, yes, I would definitely go here again.

Due to the bad weather and sloppy streets, my girlfriend & I picked this restaurant because we were in the neighborhood and the decor made it seem somewhat appealing.

Unfortunately, that was about the highlight of the visit.

I will credit our server with being polite and attentive, but frankly, she'd be better off working at a much better restauarant.

We both ordered pizzas, which were far more appealing in the menu than in reality.  Though the restaurant wasn't busy, our meals took quite some time to arrive.  There was a pretty good reason for the delay: both pizzas were somewhat burnt.  Our server offered to have them remade, but obviously waiting another thirty minutes didn't seem like the best way to spend an evening out in Vancouver.  Our server did give us a free desert, but their tiramisu was bland.

Next time, we'll just find a nearby Subway rather than blow a lot of money on subpar food and a very poor kitchen.

Came here for breakfast and there was much to be desired. Service was sketchy and barely saw our server. Although the other servers were pleasant and had a smile. Food was not great. Looked like something I would expect from a continental breakfast at the Holiday Inn. Seriously, I could of made better at home. With all being said, the location and atmosphere is great and the decor is smart.

Lunch and dinner might be a different story here.

The server was pretty good but my hot chocolate was luke-warm, and they made me the wrong fritatta. The one that came out first actually looked really good but I was set on having the one I ordered which had sounded good so I sent it back (unusual for me). I waited and waited and waited and finally the "right" one arrived, the Venezia, but I swear there was no meat in it (only apples) and that the cheese was mozzarella and not brie. It was pretty tasteless and uninteresting. And to top it off, the manage checked on me and even after hearing my complaint (also unusual for me), I didn't receive any kind of discount or apology.

In Vancouver, where everything is extremely expensive, Bellagio's is an appropriately priced restaurant. It's possible to eat a hearty meal without taking out a loan. In fact, we liked this place so much that we ate there for lunch and again for dinner. For lunch, we ordered the vegetarian Tuscan sandwich. Sandwiches are made with a soft pizza crust. Ours had just the right seasoning, though look out for a drizzle of olive oil leaking from the sandwich as you try to navigate the sizable sandwich. For dinner, we had lasagne and chicken penne. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the portions were substantial. The wait staff was pleasant and relaxed. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. This is not, however, one of Vancouver's gourmet eateries. It is just tasty traditional Italian food.
