I have only ever read about this place until just the other day. If you aren't aware I am planning my wedding and since I want to give local businesses all that I can I meandered over there this past week.
I am having cupcakes instead of cakes. This way there won't be a lot of leftover cake that no one eats. The whole ordering process took very little time and Fabio was great. What I love is that they have no problem making a 100+ cupcakes!
Of course, since we were there I had to sample other baked goods and if the cupcakes are half as good I will have died and gone to heaven on my wedding day!
UPDATE:
The cupcakes were so GOOD!!!! They were able to match the icing to my colours. Not only am I a fan of their other baked goods they made my wedding fantastic! -

A good, honest bakery operated by decent, hard working folks who care about the quality of their products.
My wife got a cake a Bella for my birthday. We ordered a chocolate cake, but they got the order wrong and made a vanilla cake. These things can happen at ANY business, but it's how they deal with it when it happens that shows whether or not they are real professionals.
Fabio, the owner/baker made a point of replacing the wrong cake with the right one, as soon as he realized what had happened. A lot of people would have just shrugged their shoulders and said "Oops, sorry about that", or even just made an excuse.
That aside, the quality of their goods is, as far as I can tell, second to none. It doesn't matter what you buy there, it will be top notch, because the products reflect not only on Fabio's attitide, but on his great skill as a baker.
One other thing I've noticed is that from time to time I see Bella's cakes around the neighborhood at other businesses, as Fabio makes a point of being involved in his corner of town. He actually gives his fabulous cakes to other folks working in the 'hood (not just business owners) for free; I've never personally known of anyone else doing that.
Buy anything you want here - you simply can't go wrong. -

Awesome bakery!! So far I have tried their, St. Honore Cake, Cream Puff Tower, Blueberry Scone and sourdough bread and I must say, THEY ALL TASTED AMAZING!
The St. Honore cake was made to perfection. It wasn't overly sweet. The cake was moist, the Bavarian cream was delicious.
The Cream Puff Tower is by far my favourite. It is a tower of approx 10 Bavarian cream filled, chocolate dipped eclairs towered together by delicious thick whipped cream. When you're in the mood for a St. Honore cake, but don't want a whole cake to work through, the tower is a perfect sized treat for 1-2 people!
The blueberry scone was moist and biscuit like, not too dry or too crumbly....just perfect. It wasn't too sweet either. You can really taste the quality ingredients in all of the baked goods.
I'm always in search of the perfect sourdough bread and this would be ranked in way up there in my list of the best. It had a nice crust and was dense yet light texture with a distinct sourdough smell and taste.
There service there is also A++. Friendly and helpful. -

Is it fair to write a review as sweet-cream induced happiness is setting in with each bite of this very milk-chocolatey Milk Chocolate Cake? Or how about the rhapsodic feeling of pineapple and carrot bits melding with cream cheese frosting in your mouth? I suppose all's fair in love and cakery. After the five-star hype on Yelp, I decided to navigate the maze that is New Westminster downtown, only to get lost, find E. Columbia and get lost again. Yeah so uh, apparent to everyone but me, Columbia forks into Brunette Ave. and E. Columbia. I finally got it right on the second go around by staying on the left lane that leads to East Columbia St. I swear all the joints on E. Columbia St. would be perfect hidden retreats for secret lovers because of how crazy isolate it is.
Service was cheery enough for a miserably cloudy Wednesday in July. Parking was easy with plenty of paid street parking in front of Bella. The two mini square cakes I got + two tangy lemon cranberry scones + one hazelnut eclair tasted great enough to satisfy. (I justified my purchases as part of business research for my events planning website...this means I can write this off right?!) I even got a good view of the most talked about Saint Honore Cake (pronounced as Saint Oh-no-rey, if you're like me who stood in front of the cake display for 2 minutes debating whether I should exhibit my French language butchery skills).
So why three stars you ask? I snooped and asked the counter girl if they baked everything fresh daily. A reasonable yes to "some products" and every other day baking to others. Fair enough. But they only make certain cakes in-house and unfortunately the ones I sampled are produced by a separate supplier, partitioned into squares and sold in their shop. Hmm...that was food for thought. I couldn't possibly give an honest rating when the actual cakes I bought were not even their products. I got the impression everyone was raving about a patisserie in New West, and I understand cake shop to be a place where they make and sell their own products. That said, based on the plumpy cranberry lemon scone and the eclair which they DO make in-house, I'm pretty sure their cakes will live up to event expectations. My tip is, do made-to-order cakes! Those are the ones Bella will make for you. Until I've sampled their in-house cakes, it's a 3-star place for me. -

I just keep finding more things to love every time I go to Bella... Tuscan garlic bread studded with big cloves of garlic, mini key lime tarts with a little drizzle of chocolate, big frosted chocolate brownies, and lovely flaky danishes with either fruit filling or almonds (and I used to not even like almond danish).
Everything is baked on-site, every day. Plus, they're really nice people running the place, and they support the community. This is definitely the best bakery in the area, and certainly my favourite.Listed in: Bright Lights, Royal City, Shopping for food
