Funny how I've been there a million times but I never done a review on it!

The portions of food there used to be really filling. It still is, but they try to cut back on cost by providing smaller pieces of beef and more noodles, for example. My mom and I ordered two beef noodles and a beef roll, the total came to about $23. Went there during noon hour today and seats fill up really quickly!!

They do have wifi available now, but you have to ask them for password each time. (I find it a little annoying) If they could do something like blenz where customers are provided with a temporary password that they can take when ordering. That would be fantastic!

Taiwanese food here is solid! My partner and I needed a quick bite after an evening event and this was where he took me.

We arrived at around 11:20pm. I was surprised there were quite a number of people in here having full-size dinners. The minimal charge here is $3.50, which I find very reasonable and the menu is very extensive. We got a deep fried Taiwanese tofu with pickled cabbage and a bowl of their "regular" beef noodle soup. There is a "deluxe or house" but I didn't feel like having any additional beef tendons.

The deep fried tofu was a knock out! The skin was crispy and the tofu was soft. It was piping hot too! The minced garlic soy sauce tasted exactly like what I had in Taiwan. The pickled cabbage was equally authentic, even though it was a tad on the spicy side.

The beef noodle soup was surprisingly good. The noodles were freshly cooked (not the half cooked ones and are 're-heated' when you order). The meat was a tad too chewy and 'stiff" but the cut of meat was correct. My only real complain about this order is that the soup was not hot. The flavor of the soup was bang on though.

The total bill came to $16 ish. I have to say this place does make some really good Taiwanese food. I'd come back here again.

An odd name, but original, yeah sure, cause when someone says it, you know where the heck you are going. Needed something around the neighborhood of the mid Main street area, and something that is open late at night. My partner was having a hunger attack, and need something Asian on this night, so off we went, and the choice, this place. I remember coming here when it first opened, and nothing really has changed of this place, except the menu has grown, and there is quite a selection of items, if not in the menu, on the chalkboard stating the "Top 10".

Here's the disclaimer, Cash Only, like most highly established cheap Asian joints in this city that serve bubble tea, if you just got plastic, your outta luck, but don't fret, you can still get your Beefy Beef on, as the bank is right next door! Parking isn't too bad either, as this is located in a plaza, good luck parking here in the daylight hours though, but the street parking is all free as well! The place is quite big, they can accomodate your party of 6 - 8, and they do have a limited selection of alcohol for your liver drinkiing needs.

It's not cramped in here, as there is a handful of tables, the noise level can get up there, but we were here late at night, and in the background they are playing old favorites of Jay Chou, and all the Mandarin hits you'd here at a Karoake being screamed by musically inclined drunk (Chinese idol) singers (as I said, normal staple to anywhere Chinese that serves bubble tea - have Chinese Music playing!).

On this night, the order of the day was a bowl of their Beef noodle, and a dish of their fried tofu. The two dishes came out, magically, fast, unless I was tired, and I dozed off, but it was there not too long after ordering. I will start with the noodles first, very generous on the beef in this dish, as there was a good portion, so the equation of meat to noodle ratio was pretty good. The noodles themselves didn't have enough bite, as they seemed over cooked. The soup was flavourful, and not too powerful on the msg, hence no headache from this late night eater. Throw in some shreadded pickled cabbage, some baby bok choy to make things pretty, and give an excuse to say that this dish has your serving of greens. Pletiful and a big dish, a good order, and pretty solid. The next dish was the tofu, to me the star of the night, a good 8 cube blocks with a good handful of picked vegetables. The tofu was nicely deep fried, but very soft, and hot in the middle, not overly battered, but just right. That was the first dish to be devoured fully by the both of us.

Around this area, this is the only one your going to find without going too much outta the way for the competitor. It's been around for a few years, and is still alive and kicking, so the food is not bad, and you can piss your time here using the free wifi which is stated, and have your friends come along and drink the bubble tea if food is not there thing.

Wow, they are still cash only after all these years... but now they have free wi-fi

Standard Taiwanese beef noodles / bubble tea.  I like how their chalkboard as their "Top 10 dishes" and "Top 7 drinks"  - helps to simplify the ordering process I guess!

If you order 4 Tsingtao's, they'll give you a free appetizer!

Overall, you can find better food elsewhere - the deep fried squid tentacles were oddly bland, not enough batter.  The chicken nuggets are still pretty good.  Best thing about this place is their location, don't need to head into Richmond or Burnaby.

"What's Beefy Beef? Beefy Beef is when you need noodle soup to go to sleep
Beefy Beef is when your brisket ain't safe up in the streets
Beefy Beef is when I see you
    Guaranteed to be in ICU"

Not bad - not bad at all.  Quiet little Taiwanese snack and bubble tea joint.  The salty peppery chicken is a must - and it's salty... and peppery... and 'good-ery'?  I've had their beef brisket and their house special noodle soup - I gotta say that the generous tomato and onion and the house special is a bit weird - the dumplings are good though.  But be warned - they don't actually use brisket - they use beef shank, which is chewier and more gelatinous.  But the classic 'beef brisket' is pretty solid all around and with huge cuts of tripe.  Delicious, delicious tripe.

Staff and service aren't bad - it's definitely not good, but it's better than the usual surly and lazy servers you typically find in a bubble tea joint.  Open til around 12 on the weekend and 2AM on the weekends.  Cash only.

Your standard bubble tea-taiwanese snack place.
The atmosphere is clean enough. Food selection is decent (but I warn that their beef noodle soup has HUGE hunks of beef and is therefore not as appealing to me...). I've also had their peppery salty chicken which is solid, and their Ma Po Tofu and Hotpots are pretty solid too.
I mostly appreciate that there's bubble tea in the area, that it's solid dependable food, and it's not completely overrun by rowdy, loud youngsters.
I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something convenient in the area, but for everything I'd eat here, I could probably find it better elsewhere.... if I felt like going all that way.

It's more of a 3.5 stars, I'm a fan of the place that's for sure.
The one that that's great about the place is that the food is consistent. After going to Beefy Beef every few months for a few years I've found that their food is reliable and you can be assured it's not going to be much different each time you go.

The one thing is great is they have an extensive menu, and they do have seasonal specials that are listed on the black chalkboard which is what I suggest people to take a look at.

But most of all, try out their deep fried chicken nuggets. They are really good, and they have a nice soft crunchy texture on the outside that isn't drenched with oil, and when you sink your teeth into it you get a nice piece of moist chicken that has a great subtle sweetness to it. It's my favourite dish.

The bubble tea is pretty standard from anywhere in Vancouver.

The one weakness the restaurant has is service. I find that it's a little too casual at times and that they looked like they're bored there.

I like the location. The food is decent, nothing really SPECIAL but I bought a voucher from Red http://Pocket.com and the lunch was basically half price.
I go to their sister restaurant in Burnaby and find the food there is a little better. But this location wins due to the more extensive menu.
Nice comfort food on a cold winter day for sure.

To the gentleman a few comment boxes from me (T.Y).  This is NOT the place to remotely judge Vancouver's 'Chinese' food..you definitely need to come back to Vancouver and try somewhere else.

I ordered the salted-peppery chicken with noodles..it wasn't peppery, just quite a bit salty, noodles were bland, thank god I asked for hot sauce to attempt to salvage what I had in front of me.  There was a few pieces of chicken that were pink inside..*sigh*

I knew ETEA on Renfrew would have even done better.

They ran out of pearls ( I swear, it happens every time I am at a bubble tea shop), so I ordered a green apple green tea.  Lord it was sweet, it was the first time, in a LONG time, that I didn't finish my drink.

I'm being generous with 2 stars, but with a tummy ache after, they will be glad to settle with 2 stars instead of with me.

I'm sorry, my Vancouver friends, but Los Angeles has much better Chinese food.

The half beef, half tendon noodle soup was disappointing. I can name half a dozen restaurants in Southern California that have much more flavorful beef stew noodles.

The Wonton in Chili sauce (hóng yóu cho shu, AKA "crossed hands" dumplings in chilli oil)... was in soy sauce? The dish was not red at all... that should've given it away as not authentic at all.

And the wonton soup was nothing special.

I think we would've enjoyed it a little more if the person introduced the restaurant to us didn't boast that this is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Vancouver. We didn't find it delectable at all, considering we were all starving as well. =/

A friend from out of town was visiting, and she wanted to try Beefy Beef. I gladly obliged, as I've been here many times before and their food is not bad.

A few people ordered their beef brisket noodle soup - a staple - and they seemed to quite enjoy it. The noodles were good, and the pieces of beef brisket were quite large and numerous.

I had the preserved vegetable and shredded pork noodle soup. I don't know why, but I was feeling like this dish. I wasn't disappointed either. It was quite tasty, except the preserved vegetables weren't exactly what I was expecting. Overall was a good dish, and would still order it again.

If you're in the Main St. area and you're feeling like Taiwanese food, this is a pretty safe place to go. Their food never disappoints, regardless of which dish is ordered.

3 star rating only because, although good, it's not someplace that I would find myself absolutely craving...Lao Shang Dong has better beef noodle soup, Corner 23 has better meat sauce on rice, and Tea Work has better shredded pork noodle soup. Beefy beef is still good though, and I would still recommend it to someone wanting Taiwanese food if they were in the area.

Hungover on 1/1/11 we meandered around Main St trying to find a place. As most places were closed, we spotted this place. With so much beef in its name and full interior, it was a no brainer.

Started with the salty peppery chicken nugget things. Pretty tasty, but no sauce available for dipping? What the heck?

I had the beef brisket noodle soup. Huge portion for $7.50. Noodles were all right, beef was somewhat tender. It filled me up. I didn't puke it up, so it was not bad.

Relatively clean decor. Cash only. A-OK for Beefy Beef.

    Beefy Beef!

Introduced there by a friend, it's one of my personal favourites for Taiwanese-style goodness.

Parking out front is generally ample, though sometimes you have to park out front.

The best dish is their salt and pepper chicken.  They get it just right.  You get all the flavours, but not too much batter.  Some good crack in there.  My friends and I get it every time we show up here.

The Hot and Sour soup is a little different from the Hong Kong style (something you'd find at Hon's for example).  It's not as chunky, and definitely not as hot and sour.  Not necessarily a bad thing, as it also means you can have more of it without getting overwhelmed.

The service is average, but friendly.

The location is one of the best things about this joint.  It's literally in the middle of the city, which makes it a really great meeting place for anyone in the City of Vancouver.

    * Closest decent Taiwanese to downtown *

Ok, when I can't schlep all the way out to Burnaby to visit Accord Food House (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) for Taiwanese beef noodle soup, this spot is the most decent Taiwanese beef noodle soup not too far from downtown.

Had the half brisket/half beef "tender" (clearly a typo of tendon) noodle soup.  There was a generous portion of tendons that had the perfect consistency.  The beef was two very large and thick slices - which seem like they were rolled before slicing.  They were nicely marbled and tender.  The noodles had the right chew and the veggies were cooked right.  The broth had a bit too much MSG for my taste, and was a bit too oily.  But overall this was a pretty decent dish - and I'm happy to have it in close striking range of downtown.

Also got to try the wontons in chili oil.  The wontons had a nice thin skin, and generous amount of meat.  The sauce didn't have any noticeable sesame paste in it, which I normally like to have in this dish.

Overall I would give this 3.5 stars, but since it is closer to downtown I'll adjust it up to 4 to give them bonus points for location.

We always come here for their beef brisket noodle soup!

I usually order the half beef, half tendon noodle soup, which comes in spicy/not spicy. They give a generous amount of meat and the soup itself is super is very tasty if you love Taiwanese beef noodles.

But today, I decided to be adventurous and ordered the lamb in spicy sauce hot pot. I have tried Pearl Castle's hot pot meals and I love them, so after seeing it on the menu, I decided to go with it.

The hot pot was okay, they could've added a bit more meat. There were too much spouts, Korean yam noodles, and cabbage. The soup itself was way too spicy to the point where you can't even take a sip without dying!

So next time, I'm just going to stick with their beef noodle soup.  =)

Easy parking, they have a small plaza parking lot.
    Inexpensive
Great for snacking or a quick yummy meal.

Background: I'm Chinese, raised in Vancouver, and I've eaten a crapload in Taiwan.

Food: Salty peppery chicken with beef noodle here is the standard fare.  It's exactly as described and delicious.  The red-cooked beef noodle here really is hard to beat as it seems the TW chefs really know what it's supposed to taste like.  The bubble tea is meh.

    Service: Just ok, nothing special.

Ambiance: It's average for a bubble tea place.  Nice furniture and comfortable square-table seating.  Usually full late nights.

Pricepoint: Cheap on par with other bubble tea places serving decent food.

Overall: I really like this place as it's quite consistent and they serve above-average food with standard bubble tea.  Perfect for a post workout late night meal.

This is a typical Taiwanese Beef Noodles Soup place.  Their foods are ok and bubble teas are good.

We had beef brisket with tomato in soup - 3 pcs of beef brisket which tenders, thick and tasty. Pork, cabbage, dry tofu in garlic sauce with rice - just a bit oily, the pork quite fatty and not spicy at all. The snack - marinated chicken gizzard chopped in very small portion and taste good.

    The service are good.

Craving for some beef noodles, we were headed back to Richmond when we drove by this Beefy Beef Noodle House. It closes at 2am so we decided to try it out. Decor is simple, it looks like they kept some of the old flooring from the previous tenant, and then added new tables and chairs. A nice open space, this is one of the larger bubble tea/ Taiwanese cafes around.

Menu has a large selection of noodles and rice, as well as many Taiwanese snacks. Their drinks consists of the green and milk teas, as well as slushes. They also have shaved iced desserts!

We ordered the Taiwanese chicken nuggets with noodles, the wontons in chili oil, and the Taiwanese beef noodles.

The noodles were a large portion, and were a good chewiness. They both came with bok choy. The Taiwanese chicken nuggets were good, not too much batter, and juicy pieces of chicken within. Beef noodles were also tasty, the broth flavourful and a good flavour, not too salty, and it even had a hint of sweetness which made it even better.

Good service, good location, large selection of food and drinks, I like this place!

Came here for an afternoon snack.  Tried their Taiwanese Beef Noodles and it was decent.  There was a good ratio of noodle to beef.  I found their broth to be stronger than other places I've tried.  I ordered their mango bubble tea but it wasn't that great.  The pearls were not soft.  Also got their popcorn chicken and that was good.  Not super crispy or super salty either, but enough of a crunch.

Service was good though.  Everything came quickly.  Parking is horrible though.  The lot is small and difficult to navigate.

From the same owners of "No. 1 Beef Noodle House". Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to try their food, but I did walk in to order a bubble tea.

I ordered the milk tea with pearls (cold) and it was very good. The pearls were not the best but it would be a good alternative that if DragonBall is closed.

The restaurant is new and looks very clean and nice inside. No where to really wait if you are just taking it to go but they do have a bowl full of wrapped candy that I really liked so I was happy to be standing in front of that.

I wouldn't mind trying it again soon for the food and writing another review.

I crisply cane here for my bday party. I definitely recommend getting the spicy beef noodles as opposed to the normal beef noodles cause it gives it more flavor and really isn't that spicy. Love that they have that garlic soy sauce. The garlic sauce maybe too empowering for some people. The bbt is average. No really wow factor.

I used to come here when it was Rekkados so the decor is exactly the same. I am a bbtea addict so I was glad to come to Beefy Beef. The food is not bad - my faves are the hot pot, salty peppery chicken, beef wraps, and the korean beef. I personally didn't really like the beef noodles - I've had better (try Aberdeen's noodle restaurant). The bbtea to be honest is hit or miss. Oftentimes the bbtea is very watery which i HATE. I have been here lots because it is close by and it is 50/50 with the drinks! So, I have started going elsewhere. But it is still a very decent place to go for bbtea food. Oh and the parking lot is horrendous. People double park and it is a tight enough lot! The service is good.

yet another reason why Main/20s is food mecca.  beefy beef is a taiwanese restaurant that joins zakkushi, hawkers, zipang, and liberty bakery on my go-to list.  kind of reminds me of a more casual Asian Legend in terms of menu and decor.
