Review from Chris P.
Friday night marked the second event for Bedlam, held at Lee's Palace. While the posters and online information is a little vague, really the only thing you need to take away from it is "ALL GIRL PILLOW FIGHT REVUE". All women pillow fighting, sounds like an interesting night to me.
My friend and I came in in with eyes wide open not sure what to expect, but with the assumption that we would at least leave entertained. We were correct. The night opened with a comedian. Now sure it was a tough crowed and she had a hard time on stage, only getting a few laughs, but I think the ball that was dropped here was that there was no intro for the comedian. She came on stage and introduced herself and got right into her bit. My friend and I were confused as to what was going on and it seems a lot of the crowd was too. I believe if one of the MC's had come on stage first and said "Hey, we're going to start you off with a comedian", things would have gone much better for her.
The fights began with an explanation of the rules al overview of how it all works. Basically this is like WWE but with pillows. As long as the fighter has a pillow in play, they can execute any moves; leg drops, punches, strangle holds, etc. The fight is over when there is a 3-count pin or a submission. The ladies all have their own characters and costumes. With names like "Cookie Crumbles" and costumes from vampires to drunken sailors to hillbillies, it's an interesting spectacle.
Halfway through the event they had a couple of burlesque dancers and a little illusion bit from the host. Pior to the headline fight they brought out one more burlesque dancer. This was a great and unexpected addition to the evening.
The crowed seemed to get into it for the most part. Iwould estimate that about half of the crowd had been to the previous event and the other half was all newcomers. We all chanted various fighters names and individuals addd their own colourful commentary. While most shouts consisted of things like "take her down" or "pin her" the most bizarre/funny one of the evenng was "rip her tits off".
All-in this was fun night and for $15 I really can't complain. This is defintely an event worth checking out.
