Not the cheapest Cosmetic joint in the city, but they are the only big players on the block in Yaletown.  They have everything a woman could need and want whether you are in a bind or just want to treat yourself to pretty, smelly things.

I always go when they have sales here because I can find super duper deals.  I've gotten jewelry for under $10, fancy lip balm for under $5 and even a beautiful scarf for $5 as well.

So there you have it - I've now let one of my budget beauty and accessories secrets out of the bag and shared them with you, so you better go and check them out!

Beauty Mark has moved to their new location on 1268 Pacific Blvd. The new store has a better set up and feels more open.

I had a makeover last night and it turned out great. The foundation that was used had flawless and smooth coverage. The right color was used and the bronzer used gave me the right amount of glow. The only issue were the eyes, but it wasn't the girl's fault. Most places don't know how to put on eyeshadow on Asian eyes. The same technique and shading can't be used for a Caucasian person's eyes vs an Asian person's eyes. This was the only issue though as I loved every other aspect of the makeover. I had a chance to try different products that I've never used before.

I'm a huge fan of Beauty Mark and their selection of makeup as well as jewellery. However, it is on the expensive side so I need to be careful when I shop here.

I went to the new Beauty Mark location (1268 Pacific) yesterday to get my nails done by my chum Christina Culver, my first time in the new spot. Aside from a rather dour sales clerk, it was divine. It is an airy space, which is necessary as it is rammed with every attractive-inducing apothecary you could ever imagine. Not cheap, but fun to look at.

I had my nails done and unlike some of the wham, bam, thank you ma'am places in this fair city, Christina took her time with me and was gentle on my cuticles. I opted for a ladylike leopard print (yes, that is possible) which she did magnificently.

The new store also boasts adorable and reasonably priced dresses and if you are into Spanx (they terrify me), they have every kind you could ever want to squeeze yourself into. They remind me of Bridget Jones scary bicycle shorts but to each their own.

Highly recommend checking it out and if you want to get 1900 compliments on your nails per day, go see Christina. Note: she is not paying me for this, she is just amazing and was recently written up in FLARE.

    Tale of Two Amazing Services

What to do when you have to dress up for a night out on the town? Visit BeautyMark and try their new services section! I had a ball to attend one Saturday, and thought it would be the perfect time to get a blow-out from Chris Funk of Funk'd Hair and gorgeous nail art from Christina Culver. My first go at nail art!

I had my nails done first. Christina was super friendly and outgoing. She made me feel at ease right when I sat down. Christina used Spa Ritual's nail polish remover, cuticle oil, and a lotion to make my hands all nice and smooth. One great thing about BeautyMark is the products! Christina had an amazing selection of Butter London and Essie nail polish colours at her disposal.

My nail art of choice - leopard print with purple, gold, and taupe. Christina helped me choose, and the end result was gorgeous (see photos)! Everything was done by hand, and took about 1.5 hours (including nail polish removal, quick clean of cuticles, etc). Christina has steady hands and made it all look so effortless. I've had people comment on how cool my nails look, and they thought it was a stencil. I told them no and to have Christina do their nails someday. I can't wait to go back for a bow design.

Afterward, I went for a 45-minute blow-out from hair expert Chris Funk of Funk'd Hair, who was right next door (second level of BeautyMark). It included a wash too, and Chris used some Bumble and Bumble products. I have really thin and limp hair, so it's always difficult to create volume. What I wanted were loose curls/waves and lots of volume. And wow, did Chris exceed my expectations.

Not only did he give me tons of volume, my curls lasted all night and the next day as well. Just to give you some perspective, for my wedding, I had to put in clip-in extensions to achieve the same level of volume. Chris was able to do that with just a brush, curling iron, hair dryer, and some styling products. I'll definitely be back for another blow-out, and may try some sort of up-do next.

I found out about Funk'd Hair through Yelp, so I find it fitting that I let you in on the good news:  Chris Funk is a pro.

Being new to Vancouver, I needed someone to blow out my hair for engagement photos, and I found Chris Funk's work in a Beauty Mark review.  I emailed him, and he responded right away.  He was friendly and charges $45 for a blow out.

Beauty Mark has a wonderful selection of makeup, accessories, and even some clothing and shoes.  Funk'd Hair is located in Beauty Mark, all you need to do is walk in and go upstairs.  It's such fun place - even if you don't need your hair blown out, visit Beauty Mark because you're bound to find something you'll love.

Think back, way back, back in the day when pixie cuts came in again, MAC was the newest thing on the block and Kevyn Aucoin (RIP) was my idol.

Back then, BeautyMark must have been newish too. And through the years, I must admit, I had never been a fan. It was all for the lack of service... and sometimes downright rude staff. In recent years, I had rarely in set foot inside in fear of being let down in such a seemingly happy place.

But this past weekend, I was in despair, looking white as a ghost (literally, I had broken my blush) and I had a glam event to get to. The sweet sales associate helped me find the right colours and performed so well under the pressure of being the only person trying to serve 3 customers, all needing help, that I need to give her some major applause! I'm glad to see they've stepped up their service game, since they're fully representing with a "People Love Us on Yelp" sticker beautifully displayed on their door.

This is my favourite cosmetics shop...I live in Richmond and travel to Yaletown frequently to purchase my favourite products, which usually aren't available in most stores. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable of the products they carry. There are also great makeup artists there that do an amazing job if you ever want to treat yourself to a makeup application or lesson.

Be forwarned that this place does not issue refunds on anything! Once they have your money they will be takeing it to their grave!!!
You might be able to bring something back for exchange or store credit, but it's better to go shopping elsewhere that offers Customer satisfaction.

I have stopped in at Beauty Mark countless times over the years...I was a regular when I was in Makeup school as they carry a lot of brands that are unique and not found in many shops around the city.., Maria Badescu, Lola, Stila, Kevyn Aucoin, DuWop, Paula Dorf..just to name a few..I also LOVE the Philosophy line of bath products...the pumpkin pier body cleanser is awesome! I also like the Bliss line...you can get fun accessories, brushes, jewelry, and "girly gear" as they call it..think nipple concealers and clear bra straps..

While I do like their wares..I can't say that I have even been helped at Beauty Mark..I can't even think of there being an associate in the store actually..no one that left a lasting impression anyway and that's not good..be prepared to be self sufficient when you stop in.. but to stop 'cause they have great lines that NEED to be explored!

I was sold as soon as these words came out of the saleswoman's mouth:

"If you can't afford the big expensive house, or the big expensive car, you can get the big expensive lip gloss!"

Every time I go to BeautyMark, the salespeople are friendly and not pushy. THey have a lot of nice stuff (mostly I buy my Bumble and Bumble from them). It's my go-to when I want a pick-me-up or if I just want to treat myself.

Went here today as I was in the neighborhood. The staff was pleasantly nice and helpful without being overbearing. She even gave me a sample to take home despite only purchasing $11 total.
Love that they carry hard to find brands like Foot Petals, Ojon, and Oribe among others. They might be not as big as other big name retailer but they carry a decent inventory.
Have not tried their make up lesson or eyebrow grooming (they have 3 weeks waiting list), but will definitely give it a try.

This is both the worst and best place to go for beauty addicts. Located in Yatetown, this tiny little boutique is stocked full with beauty products, lingerie, jewelry and little knick knacks. It prides itself on providing professional service and expertise in the realm of beauty so it should come as no surprise that it is usually the first (and often the sole) retailer of countless high end marketed brands: Prada, Philosophy, Mario Badescu, Paula Dorf , Terax and Fresh, to name a few.

Other services available are makeover, beauty consultations, et al. They also often host special in-store promos.

This is the place to go for anything beauty related. And let me warn you now: you will leave this place begging for more!

You can find all those hard to locate brands in Canada at this little place in Yaletown  - like Stila and Cargo. Heart heart heart. And Bumble and Bumble and Fresh. OMG. It's like I've died and gone to Beauty Heaven (if only...).

Ok, yes, it's a little pricey. But if you're a beauty fanatic, you know there is no price on love.

BeautyMark is well known among Vancouverites as the ultra-chic place to shop for cosmetics. And, apparently, some celebs know it, too! (I hear Bridget Fonda, Avril Lavigne, Jessica Alba, and Selma Blair have all been spotted perusing the goods.) The profesh makeup artist staff members are totally helpful and, in my experience, happy to provide services for weddings, photo shoots, and other occasions.

BeautyMark specializes in brands that aren't mass marketed and has been one of the first boutiques to launch lines like Cake, Principessa, Deserving Time, and Safety Girl.

I ran out of moisturizer and wanted to invest in something special.  I am getting a wee bit older and need something that can do many duties: anti-wrinkle, non-clogging, great scent, erases and moisturizes and doesn't leave my face feeling oily, even adds radiance and shine. So I headed straight for Beautymark.

The store carries non-department store type of cremes, shampoos and make-up, like Stila, Linacare, Fresh and Ojon. It also carries accessories, clothing and little knick-knacks like candles, room spray and jewellery.  The girl behind the counter was super nice and gave me free samples of two cremes to try after I told her my dilemma.  It was a posh place with class, but not full of attitude.

    Yes, please!

One of the only places in the city that carries my beloved Sara Happ lip scrub.  I was blown away the first time I walked in this store - it may not look like much from a street view perspective, but once inside, it was like finding leprechaun gold.  Not only do they carry the best selection of Philosophy and Stila I've seen in Vancouver, they've even got a concise and well edited men's grooming section (which the boyfriend appreciated).  While I wonder how they'll do once Sephora arrives this summer (and shoppers have another option for some of those hard-to-find lines), I think they're always worth a visit.  Trying to find someone to help out was a bit of an ordeal, but the rest was worth it!

Akin to an uber-mini Sephora, I had no idea this stocked-full shop was even here and now that I do, I'm stoked!  I was truly surprised to see some of the brands I thought I could only get online, amongst them, Ojon hair products, Bliss, Fresh, Maria Badescu, Cargo, Lola, Stila and the beloved Kevyn Aucoin's make-up line.  They also carry cute women's clothing, jewellery, unique hats and even BC and Seychelles shoes.  It's a shame they don't have more space, but I'll still go back!

I've had my make up done twice by Jackie at BeautyMark as did my wife. Once was for our wedding day. Jackie did a great job and I was really happy with her work. The only glitch in the experience was that my wife's appointment on the day of the wedding was double booked. Jackie handled it though and everything ended up fine. Would I recommend her? Heck, yeah.

I love stores that feel a bit like a treasure hunt. It is way more fun to have to search for the perfect item rather that have it linearly displayed. BeautyMark has a wonderful selection of cosmetics and if you don't posses good willpower you might end up splurging quite a bit! It is also fun how they have jewelry and accessories along with makeup and cosmetics...to only make the temptation that much stronger!!

I love this place. I don't mind spending a bit extra on skin care because I have oily, acne prone, skin and I'm in my 30's now so starting to think about fine lines. I've found the staff to be really friendly and knowledgeable, and it's packed full of so many different lines of stuff. I have to resist overspending when I go in there. It's also the first place I go for gifts for girlfriends.
