The muffins are delicious! The sandwiches used to be superb, but it now seems like the bread-to-filling ratio is a bit... off. There's more bread than turkey and pesto!
I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but their steamed milk and chai tea lattes are quite palatable.
The service is alright. Sometimes it's pretty slow, and sometimes the people at the till are cocky. I feel as though some of the servers are judging me, while I walk in wearing a fleece zip-up. Sorry, hipsters. -

I've gotta say that if there's nowhere to sit then I'm definitely NOT going to give your establishment my business. Unfortunately today was the case. Luckily it's not raining or snowing as I came by today while waiting for the establishment across the street to open for me as they change ownership (They closed their doors March 1/12 - just over two weeks ago)

The coffee here is really good. Yum.
Unfortunately they are so busy that the service is slow and there is often not seating, but the coffee makes it worth it.Listed in: drink

I love this Bean Around the World. It's not associated with any of the other franchises in the city - they're all different. This one offers free internet, great wood decor with windows, and an array of baked goods including vegan options. They also offer both soy and almond milk for your non-dairy coffee needs. I find this cafe comfortable and have never had a bad service experience.

Power to the people!! I may be beating a dead horse but THANKYOU BATW for listening to your customers and turning the granola bars and other baked goods back to their former portions. I spoke to one of the hipsters tonight (quite friendly, as the evening staff usually are) about the change in portions and price. She said there have been some complaints about the changes. They chose to do this because many of the customers were leaving behind wasted food. Come on people!! They are actually listening to our suggestions (rare). If you can't finish your giant muffin or granola bar, please portion it and bring it home to the family or your co-workers; instead of leaving waste behind! Thank-you.

Review from Rich B.
The baked goods at Bean are fantastic - most of them are baked on the premises and all huge and great value for money. The quickstart muffin is the perfect breakfast, loaded with nuts, fruit, carrots and hot from the oven first thing in the morning. The chocolate banana bread is fantastic and the pies are delicious.
The coffee, on the other hand, is pretty ordinary. Perfectly adequate but it never really tastes like it's been made with much care or enthusiasm. Don't get me wrong - it beats Starbucks hands down, but with a bit more care it could be awesome.
And that brings me on to the main problem with this place - many of the staff just don't seem to care. Too many times I've been in here and felt like I'm intruding. A number of moody, too-cool-for-school hipsters let down what is otherwise a great neighbourhood coffee shop. -

As neighbourhood joints go, this is a winner. Don't expect service to be especially fast. It moves as fast as the young servers, who probably only slept a few short hours after seeing their favourite band play the night before, see fit. They brew good coffee and pour a decent latte too. The baked goods are mostly made on premises. The Quickstart muffin is a staple. A good mix of people, not overrun by hipsters with ironic moustaches texting each other from across the table. They keep to the JJ or Gene down the road. Seating can be hard to find at times.

Yes, their coffee is good. Service, not so much. Would not recommend popping in if you're in a hurry. Service has a tendency to be slow, unless you are only ordering a tea or a simple cup of coffee.
On weekends the place is pretty busy so its pure luck if you get a table.
They do baking on the premises. The double chocolate cookie and the lemon loaf is pretty tasty. Those are the only 2 baked goods I've tried there.
Also note, they enforce a $5.00 interac minimum purchase and do have a cash machine in the shop that charges a higher than usual service fee. -

The coffee cake here is absolutely delicious! Ok, I know, I'm supposed to be reviewing the coffee, but trust me, the cake is soo good! They also have lots of other baked goods-cookies, pies (lemon pie!), muffins (quickstart muffin!), and sandwiches.
I like this location because it has glass surrounding the whole place, allowing lots of light to come in. Lots of seating available, with large tables, so I can actually have my laptop running, with all my other papers and books. Fresh flowers are always displayed on the counter, which gives us a homey feeling.
I usually order a Chai Latte or for certain random days, I would get a London Fog. Their Chai Latte is creamy and delicious, and then I also add honey...mmmm, I could have so many of these! London Fog is made with Numi teas, an organic tea. Also very good, and their drinks are always piping hot, just the way I like it.
They are very environmentally friendly by using metal spoons and forks, as well as recylce bins to recycle your cups and lid. They also have brown sugar here!
I've always had good service here, and this is a perfect sanctuary when I just want to get away, bring my laptop here, and just hang out. -

Not my favorite coffee grounds but good for a rainy day charge up. I had a nice hot latté and chicken roll here on my last visit. The service was okay, but the two baristas clearly preferred to talk to each other rather than customers waiting with orders.
There is a little outdoor seating area that I would anticipate gets some nice afternoon sunshine. With plenty of bike stands nearby it's the perfect afternoon destination if you feel so inclined to savor a few hours with a book and a coffee. That's luxurious. -

Ah, Bean. Had it not been for you and your blended mochas, I don't know if I would have survived living with at my parents'.
Right at the corner of Main and 20th, it draws techie nerds, moms and their entourage, and hipsters en route to neighbouring shops like Front and Company. It's the perfect sanctuary for those rainy Sundays when stomping around in puddles has left you cold, wet and in need of a hot fair trade coffee and one of those double love chocolate fudge cookies that always come so wonderfully large. (The sandwich and salad selection is always very tempting but, honestly, nothing can keep me away from their cookies, which are meals in and of themselves.)
Wireless internet is always available, as are copies of various local papers. Bring a book, take your laptop with you or just sit and people watch. -

This place has all the makings of a really great coffee shop except for the staff! The baked goods, which are baked fresh on the premises, are phenomenal! My favourites are the Quickstart Muffin, Raspberry Cinnamon Buns, Cheese Scones, Peanut Butter & Chocolate Chip and Double Chocolate Cookies, Granola Bars, Coffee Cake, and the Carrot Cake. The coffee is really good, but I'm not that picky when it comes to coffee. A bonus for me is that they offer brown sugar! There's also a coffee stamp card, so your 9th coffee is free! From the weekday morning rush to any given weekend, this place is packed with people from the 'hood. Minus *1 star* for the hipster service, but judging by the amount of patrons that come here, service isn't what they come for. They come for the good coffee and amazing baked goods!

Just about the best coffee I've ever tasted. It must be the beans they use or the freshness of the roast that makes the difference. We buy our beans for home here as well, our favorites being the Komodo and Cuban blends. The staff pour a consistent, full flavoured drink, the service fast and friendly, bake goods ample and delicious and the ambiance just right.

Best Mocha I have tried in the city (and i have tried a lot). The trick is to add vanilla powder to your drink. If they don't have any on stock than it will be ordinary only! An assortment of folks work/frequent this place. Everyone has some sort of edge. ...Is it just me or is being normal soon to be the trend? Your hair isn't dreaded and your pants aren't from 1972, you don't ride a cruiser bike, and your political views are few......YOU're ORIGINAL!
