Review from Purdy J.
Good place to drop buy for a quick coffee especially when it's not busy and there is no line up. A good selection of baked goods but unfortunately, the staff are not very knowledgeable on what ingredients are actually in them. People with allergies need to be very careful.
Lots of seating with clean bathrooms. We ordered lattes and some desserts. I was a little disappointed at the lack of latte art but I guess they are always just extras. I had a granola bar which was very sweet (good thing I had the coffee to balance out the sweetness) and had a texture more like cake than a granola bar.
Nice high ceilings that give it a nice atmosphere within a strip mall of a bunch of other not so exciting shops. -

If you are a regular, you'll want to move on. The ownership here is not interested in honouring loyal patronage. They have stupid rules, lousy Internet and after 4 years, ownership has never said hi to me, looked me in the eye, nothing. This place is soulless.
The staff is mostly pretty good with a couple that are hard asses and don't smile but all in all pretty good.
The ownership on the other hand does not deserve this franchisee. If you look close enough you realize they are absent and are only sucking the cash out of the neighbourhood. Shame on them.
Oh and their internet SUKCS! -

I've dropped into this Bean a bunch of times now to grab a soy capp, and I really want to rave about how nice the girls are that work there. They leave such a nice impression. It means a lot to me to be treated with kindness, so bonus star for their sweet customer service :) Also, news to me they carry Almond as a non dairy alternative! Totally turned me onto Silk Almond beverage.
The other thing that stands out about this Bean location, is the furniture in this cafe. It's an eclectic bunch of old wood tables which is so cool for a chain. I SO want one.
They have some cookies listed as gluten free, and I've bought them a few times but I'm not sure about the ingredients. As much as I appreciate the effort, If we gluten intolerant's can't read the ingredients we usually don't buy the product.
*I just returned yesterday (November 28. '11) and had the best hot drink I've ever had at any Bean Around the World! It was delicious! A double shot Almond latte in a 10oz cup. I've just upped them a star :) Yay!* -

I enjoy this place as it is always busy and has a nice atmosphere.
I'd rate it a 3 but those darned sausage rolls and other scrumptious tid bits they sell are so yummy they bump up the rating for me.
The line can be long, but it goes fairly fast...
Coffee is pretty darned tasty too! -

Anyone can make coffee. Only the chosen few can make the chocolate-sour cherry scone to go with it. Drizzled with chocolate, studded with cherries, it was baked ecstasy in every bite.

Sunny Sunday afternoon. I head over to grab a coffee with my husband. I place my order and as always drool over the baked goods...I am celiac so basically I can't any of this stuff. But HELLO! What's this...a sign that says gluten free!. The adrenalin is pumping...I can have a muffin. I continue to read..."made with spelt flour." My heart sinks. Spelt flour, for those of you who do not know and actually care, is not gluten free. In fact, if they hadn't said that it contained splet flour and I ate that I would have been really ill. I am getting really tired of places that want to jump on the gluten free band wagon but don't have a clue what they are doing. Read a book people...figure out the difference between gluten free and wheat free...its big difference particularly if you are in the food business. Really simple to get a list of the safe and unsafe foods for celiacs.
I hate ranting but as a small business caterer I must voice my distress.
One final note...these comments apply only to the Parkgate Mall Bean Around the World. As I mention in another post, the one in Yaletown is fab and they do indeed have a truely gluten free banana bread...although now I am beginning to wonder?!?!?!1 Previous Review: Show all »
