Love, love, LOVE this little market. Why, you ask?
Because they have so many Gluten Free things ! This market is nicely organized with a great layout. There are two cash outs for busy times and a separate section of vitamins to food items.
I was so impressed with the selection, I wish I lived near by.
Yes items can be pricey, but these specialty foods like Buckwheat breads, Vegetable and Tofu (non wheat) burgers and the likes are seldom a bargain. Also available, GF and Non Dairy cookies that actually taste good ! So many things to choose from here.
This is a primo neighbourhood with a wonderful little coffee roaster a few doors down as well. Yum. GF cookie from Wholesome and a great Cappuccino too. What more could we ask for?

I tried Wholesome for the first time yesterday because I had a coupon for $10 off if I spent $30. I spent almost exactly $30 and got it all for $20. But I don't think I'd go back if I didn't have a coupon.

They're very expensive. And selection is limited. Big Carrot is definitely more reasonable and not that far away. Plus you can get most organic veggies at Loblaws for much cheaper.

I'm scratching my head wondering how this place stays in business.

While it is well organized, very clean and spacious for such a small space, the prices are ludicrous. Between two and THREE times as expensive as any other health food store I've been to - that includes Big Carrot, Noah's, Whole Foods, Qi, Evergreen, Peach Tree, etc. To wit:
    * Avalon Organics hand soap - $8.99 ($4.99 at Essence Of Life, $6.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart)
    * Earth balance margarine - $5.99 ($3.99 at Noah's)
    * Bob's Red Mill 7 Grain Hot Cereal - $7.99 ($3.99 at EoL, Tutti Frutti and Whole Foods)
    * Spirutein pwder - $29.99 ($15.99 or $16.99 at Essence Of Life or Noah's) I actually gasped when I saw this price tag.

I question how this place stays in business.

Also, I wasn't very impressed by the selection. There were only two types of honey (man I sound like a brat - but seriously, there was no normal honey to be found - just a $40 jar of gold honey and some other organic brand) and they didn't carry the bread I normally buy. The vitamins section was a disaster (no shelf labels) and there was no one around to help me out. I tried not to touch too many things as I struggled to locate an easy-to-swallow B vitamin, and there wasn't a Dr. Weil's product in sight.

All the people working there seem to be competent and really nice. The food selection is pretty good, everything's organic or gluten-free or vegan. It's a bit pricey, but that's because it IS health food. Also, theres a BMO ATM on the outside of the building, so good bonus

I like to buy food, and I like to support my local businesses, but how could I fathom spending the type of markup they put on their products?!
I would rather drive the extra 10 minutes to a real grocery store that gives value to it's consumers.
There isn't that much selection either. The frozen section, and meats/fish selection is almost non existent!
I have shopped there on occasions only because the location to my house is convenient.

This is a small, clean, health food store with a decent but limited selection.  If you've got the time and inclination, I'd make the trip to the Big Carrot, but this is good for picking up a few items if you're close by.

My main complaint is the staffing.  For a compact place, it's surprisingly hard to get help, and if you've hit the jackpot and there is someone on cash, he/she is likely to be in training.

Tip:  Try the organic dried apricots.  Best I've had.  (Think you don't like dried apricots, and you've only ever tried those orange ones?  Do yourself a favour and try the organic version.  I'll never eat an orange one again.  It's like a pink eraser in comparison.)

Beef:  No outgoing message on phone line.  Something with business hours would be nice.

This place is decent, they have an interesting selection of stuff and support local farmers.  The frozen food selection isn't impressive, and overall I find it to be pricy.  I go here for my health food needs because it's close, but if given the chance I can find everything I need up at Ambrosia in Thornhill, or Whole foods.
