Review from Evilyn T.
Ummm... it's summer, can we get some refridgeration in here? When I buy some beer or wine, I would like it to be already chilled so I can actually consume it. I would have gone to the other liquor store on Bute and Davie, but those bastards close at 6pm - it's like they don't want us to drink!
I bought some sangria anyways, and stood in line at the checkout. I got carded. No prob, I know how young and beautiful I look *cough cough* it's been a while, and I don't think I have ever been in this store before so they don't know me.... yet..... I handed the cashier my ID, and then he asked for a second piece. Now I know that the law requires two pieces, that's all fine and dandy, but this is the FIRST time in my life anyone has actually ever asked me for a second piece. Do I really look 18??? I'm 33.... there is no flattery in this, its just kind of ridiculous at this point. I gave him my second piece of ID and made a joke of it and went on my way. At least this place is open later than 6pm, so they will get to know me eventually. -

For those of you that keep track of my reviews.. you know that I am on a quest to visit every liquor store in the lower mainland......and I am still going strong..whether my liver likes it or not!
Soooo...this location is just ok...I know..shocking..no 5 stars this time around..and I'll tell you why....it's always really busy....they cashiers are super slow...and super rude...and there is always the smell of pee lingering at the entrance...not to mention the barrage of homeless people that try and hit you up for change as you leave and then they lip you off when you say no...not my idea of a good booze buying experience quite frankly...
I will still continue on my quest however..unphased by this minor hick up in a perfect booze buying experience...Listed in: Liquor? I hardly know her!

I 100% agree with what's said about this liquor store.
There's nothing wrong with the interior exactly. It has the usual liquor and beer with the usual lower prices (not one of those weird ones who jacks it up). In fact, recently they upgraded their craft beer selection to include some of the stranger ones you can get at a BCL. The staff is very nice as well. It's a busy place so I think they make up for it in niceness.
But what's horrible about this place is the outside. It's a veritable tent-city of panhandlers that greet you at the door. And not the usual liquor store panners either but some pretty belligerent ones. For someone who is from Vancouver and used to endless populations of homeless it's pretty hard to be shocked/annoyed by one place , but this is definitely it.
If you have the option, go get offsales at the pumpjack or head to the nicer location on Albernie. There the homeless outside are genial and considerate rather than an impenetrable wall of sadness.
