Well , everyone seems to be writing up their favorite BCLs lately so I thought I'd throw my hat in to say the best BCL (outside of the signature store of course) can be found right downtown.
It seems like half of the world doesn't know about this little store nestled among Wendy's and Construction on Alberni but it's just great. Perhaps due to the 'chic' downtown crowd It offers a slightly larger selection of wines, spirits and especially beers compared to some of the other BCLs. It definitely tends to trump most Cold Beer and Wine stores around when it comes to selection, and of course with BCL, price.
But the magic that gives this little store five stars to me is simple: It's open Sundays. That's right, Alberni is the only BCL anywhere near the heart of the city that is open on The Lord's day. Christianity be damned lets all get drunk! Granted it is for incredibly shortened hours but there's been many a Sunday dinner party, Pride Parade and hot day at the beach saved by this little Alberni store and that's why I love it so. -

Yes, this is the best liquor store in town. It's open til 11 Monday-Saturday and it's open on Sundays for a bit as well. The store has a huge wine selection and even a cooler in the back for cold beer choices. The staff are friendly and there is one in particular that we look forward to seeing when we stop in to grab our affordable booze choices for the night. It's located across from a grocery store as well, so you can quickly grab your mix. Very convenient if you are downtown, thirsty, on a budget, or want to get a sunday buzz/hangover fix.
