This really is a great place to take a family outing. You start out with a ride on a full-sized steam engine through forests and over a lake trestle. Then you arrive at a rebuilt historic train station that opens into a wide field good for picnics, and surrounded by numerous steam trains and logging displays.
They used to also have a hand-cart ride that kids (or their parents) could work, but I understand that has been stopped for liability reasons. Too bad - it was one of the most fun activities there.
Add in a small snack shop, and a better-than-average gift shop and you have a good place to waste a day. I just wish the admittance fee wasn't so high, although it is used to restore the trains so it is probably worth it.

When you are looking for a fun place in Cowichan lake, this is it.

This is a great place, especially with kids.

There's a train ride, walking trails, play ground, and tons and tons of information about logging. A movie, pictures, displays, LOTS of antique logging equipment and you can actually climb around on some of it.

Overall, I was very pleasantly surprised. I expected ho-hum another museum. Instead, I had a great time with my kids for the better part of a day.

    I'll actually go back!
