I'm getting the impression this is just a bar masquerading as a BBQ restaurant.

I still have never had any food here.  But the booze is cheap - $14 pitchers and Goose is now $6 and $4.50 for Jager.  We decided on beer since my buddy and I were planning to rape the old $4.50 Goose special they had.

But this is a damned decent bar - pretty quiet, lots of regulars and it's set up for the boozehounds.  The staff here is a bit surly - but hey, I can't knock the fact the bartender kept coming back to give us freshly re-iced glasses before we dipped back into our pitchers (Big Rock Ale, GI Winter Ale and Lager).  And also shared a few stories about last weekend: "... so, this regular comes in... completely hammered..."  All the best stories begin with booze.

I still hate Yaletown - but this joint is making me think it's not all yuppies, douchebags and tourists.  There is a decent spot for cheap boozehounds.

Excellent option for late night great quality food - at an exceptionally low price!
We all know there are many many options in Yaletown. You can go spend $500 for a party of 4 including wine at any one of the restaurants nearby.   This place is not one of those!
Open late night, very simple, comfort food, and extremely delicious.  They have this new chicken rotisserie machine that apparantly cost $200,000 - and yes, well worth the price.  Many of the meals come with your choice of two sides.. my favorite being the Macaroni & Cheese, and Corn Bread!
Atmosphere is quaint, they have a stage where they bring in a DJ occasionally.. i think this place is great for those people perhaps at a cocktail party or something downtown, and wish to "continue the night", and go get some dinner & drinks.
I have also been here for lunch a couple times - great lunchtime drink specials!!

I work just above this restaurant, and when it first opened we thought; "hey, this may be a great place to grab lunch etc".

Well things started off bad and got worse:

1- First time I ever ate there the bun on my hamburger was moldy. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and said to ourselves "they are just working out the kinks".

2- Ordered lunch from there one day...food is actually not bad and the garden burger is yummy. At any rate, I found a staple in my salad. Took the food back and they told me I need to be more careful with my food to not let things fall in.....wait a sec....I NEED to be more careful? I guess I should watch where I put my staples.

3- Friend was turning 30 and because of the convenience of the place, I thought it might be nice to throw him a party there. A TON of people came and spent a lot of money and yet.....I was still OVERCHARGED on the final bill.

4- Final straw: called my order in with specific instructions. 30 mins later received my order missing two of the items. Order had to be redone. Instead of redoing the order they just took it apart, warmed it up and put it back together with the same old, incorrect ingredients.

Extremely bad service, overpriced drinks, overcharged bills, and under trained staff left unsupervised. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one? I think they have a tasty Veggie Burger....that's really about it.

I've been here for a couple of private parties, and overall my feelings towards this place are pretty "meh."

    Let's start with the good:
-the drink specials are an amazingly good value
-when hosting a private party, they will make a custom menu and drink specials for your group
-the huge bar is in the centre of the restaurant, meaning you're never more than a few steps away from your next beverage
    -the staff are friendly

    Now for the not-so-good:
-the food is average at best, and I found their cornbread to be oily and disappointing
-the service is slow. I once spent an extraordinarily LONG time at the bar waiting to grab someone's attention (I'm talkin' at least 20 minutes here)

BBQues isn't a terrible place, but I wouldn't come back unless I was attending another private event. Compared with other venues in Yaletown, it just seems to fall short.

    Unfortunately, I
have to change my original review of this place due to my most recent experience.

Made a reservation three days in advance, arrived 10 minutes before the reservation only to find that there was no record of it. Was then handed what was supposedly the reservation list (and it's no wonder I could not find my name or phone number on it as it was more of a random notepad) so that I could see that my name was not there.

I was then told that calls would be placed at their contacts in the area in order to find a table for myself and party, and that I would be texted once a table was secured. Did they actually do that? No, of course not. Never heard from them.

*Side note, this was not the hostess's problem, but instead what appeared to be management.

When a screw up like that occurs, and it's too late to fix it, all that is really needed is an apology. But instead we got the run around.

To be honest, I was a bit edgy after reading so many 2-star reviews, but decided to try this anyways.

Parking is pretty much nonexistent, much like the rest of Yaletown.  Yay for carpools!

They had a few screens showing the Canucks game.  The ambience is typical, with the black decor and wooden pillars.

I had the Miami rotisserie chicken with ribs combo ($18).  They let you pick the sauce, so I tried "spicy BBQ".  For sides, I picked macaroni + cheese, and coleslaw.

The coleslaw was quite bland.  Almost as if they had completely forgotten the dressing.  Tasted quite bitter.

The mac + cheese was surprisingly quite tasty.  They use real cheese and real macaroni (not the tiny KD variety).  Yay!

The ribs were a bit on the fatty side.  But the sauce was delicious, and there were probably 8 pieces or so.  The BBQ sauce was spicy, but not extremely salty like many places, with just the right kick.  The chicken was just a bit burned on the skin, but the inside meat was tender and juicy.

One thing I will agree with though is that the service is a bit slow for some reason.  I'm not just talking about the lag between ordering and receiving the food, but even for the staff to set up and give you a menu. (hence 3 stars instead of 4)  But the pricing was reasonable.  To be honest, I was expecting to spend at least $30.

Walked by here, and was looking for a quick sandwich-esque lunch with my neighbor.  They had a promoter TJ outside, and he was so friendly and charming we decided to give the place a try.

Quarter roast chicken, and two sides (I had fries and caesar salad) for $10?!  Sign me up!  Can't remember the last time I had a filling hot lunch for that little that wasn't fast food.  The food was good, not exactly award winning, and the service prompt.

A good place for a quick lunch I felt and decent value for the money.

If comfort food is what u are looking for then BB Ques is the place to go.  The smells emanating from the kitchen made my mouth water.  I had a half chicken dinner with baked beans and Mac and cheese as my sides. I enjoyed every bit of it.   Was it gourmet....No, but it hit the spot.
The atmosphere has more of a harder edge than your typical Yaletown restaurant.  From the rock music being played to the waitresses serving up your fare.  It"s a refreshing change from the poser establishments located in the area.

At BB Que's comfort is key!

Went for lunch in Yaletown today and wanted to check out this barbeque restaurant that I think is somewhat new (in the last 6-10 months or so). Unfortunately, I should have probably stayed with one of the tried and true places in the area.

First of all there were lunch time "specials" advertised for $10 - well, turns out the regular price for the items available there (veggie burger, chicken burger, or pulled chicken sandwich) are all $11 anyways, so doesn't sound that special to me.

Instead we opted to try something a bit more meaty at this BBQ place. I had the Miami BBQ Beef Short Ribs and my friend had the Baby Back BBQ sandwich. Both of us were pretty disappointed. I've had much better ribs at places like Cactus Club! The Beef Short ribs were a bit on the dry-side. There was decent amounts of meet on the ribs, but nothing too special. And the taste was mild at best. No real kick to it at all. The Baby Back Sandwich didn't have much to it either - just a bun with the ribs and some lettuce and tomato.

The meals also come with two sides. These are pretty decent portions but again nothing really special. I had an overly saucy Caesar salad and a very starchy Mac and Cheese. My friend also had the Roasted Corn on the Cob which was really not all too tasty and a bit on the dry side too.

The best part of the meal was that they had Grolsch (Dutch Beer) on tap, which is a bit rare to find. One pint was $7 though.

All in all, it was a disappointment. Mediocre tasting food a bit on the pricey side. Not planning on going back to this place.

I went there on Monday night for dinner with a friend
i ordered their BBQ Beef short ribs dinner and it was overcooked and very oily.
After i went home,i felt sick and it turned out that i have food poisoning from this place. Stomach has been feeling weird since. The server was very helpful but do beware of what you order from this place. The freshness of the beef short ribs were questionable.

Waited an hour and a half for dry chicken on a Saturday night. No apology or actions to make up for it. I do NOT recommend this place.

Watched game 1 vs Nashville here. Service was slow, but still okay. Beer selection - meh. Really good specials though - $4 grey goose and $12 pitchers. I had a salad with chicken - it was super good. But everyone else was like I wish I got what you got which makes me think they weren't so impressed with their food. Will I go back? Yah sure if other people are going there, but it won't be by my prerogative.
