We had a very nice dinner for 10 of us this  evening. The service was excellent and the dining room was reasonably quiet. Since most tables were full, we appreciated the ability to talk.

The fondue and other food was very well prepared and was much better than some of the reviews would have indicated.

The value was a bit of a concern given the total cost. I would have given an even better rating if it weren't so expensive.

All in all the experience was very positive and our party would recommend Bavaria restaurant again.

I saw some of the poor reviews but thought, "how bad could it be?"  Honestly, it was the most expensive terrible meal I have ever had.
We had the Christmas set menu (fondue) and it was not only terrible, but I am sure that people will get sick from the meat portion of the meal. The vegetables looked old, and the "chinois" portion had raw chicken on a plate resting next to the prawns. All the dipping sauces were mayonnaise based which is a bit gross.
So basically, we paid $75 per person for a small pot of cheese, stale bread, old vegetables and raw meat of dubious quality.
For those prices you expect a certain level of quality, and this honestly felt like a scam as most people are tourists.
My husband and I were not only disappointed, but left feeling sick both from the price we paid and the terrible food.
The entire meal, including the cheapest bottle if white wine on the menu ( $49)the total before tip was $250!! You can get a Christmas dinner at the Fairmont Hotel and it is absolutely delicious with a thoughtful wine pairing for the same price.

I had a great time here with my friends. I thought the food was ok. I feel like I have had better at a place closer to home.
Lady fingers and fruit for dessert was the best :)

Used to be our favorite place in Whistler but quality has gone downhill, so bad that we will never go back.

Restaurant was 25% full yet we waited for 45 minutes before anything came out. We just paid for our wine and left.

Their excuse was that it was a new menu or computer order system or new kitchen staff. At the end of the way, it was simple fondue which normally should not have taken so long!

There were flies and faint cigarette smell at our table too.

    1/6/2011 2 Check-ins Here

We were in Whistler the week following Christmas and booked an 8 PM reservation here on our third night.  Our whole group, despite being starving from an active day spent on the mountain, was very happy that we waited for the late seating!

Our server was wonderful - very knowledgeable about the food and the restaurant's extensive wine list.  He helped us select a lovely red that they had been cellaring and were offering specially for the holidays and he encouraged the rest of our table to help finish the Swiss fondue that my brother's fiancee and I just couldn't seem to find anymore room for.  He also managed to convince us to order chocolate fondue for dessert (for which the bowl was literally licked clean) when we all thought we couldn't possibly consume another bite.

While this place isn't cheap, the servings are quite sizeable and the experience is so lovely that it is well worth the expense.  I will definitely be returning the next time I find myself on the mountain!

If your feeling like fondue after skiing come here. the food's not that remarkable as i sit here and try to remember what we even had...

i think the servers were pretty tired by the time we got there at 8pm because they weren't that interested in us and there were only 3 other tables that had people in the whole huge place

also you just can't order one fondue- you have to get two! which may work for big groups but not for 2-4 for dinner.

Yay!  YELP is in The Great White North -- CANADA!!!

My first Canadian review must be dedicated to my favorite restaurant.
I celebrated my birthday here in March 2008 after a wonderful and tiring day of skiing on the Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains.

    Excellent food
    Excellent house wine - merlot
    Decent albeit pretensious service
Prices: Expensive (but oh so worth it!!!)

    Excellent FONDUE.

I would definitely come back here again...

    pictures later!

We've been here 3 times over the past 5 years and I must say, everytime is consistently good food and service. I do not understand where all the negative reviews are coming from. We have only been up here during ski season, however, so maybe that has something to do with it??

Try the "fondue experience" if your pocketbook allows it. The salad is tasty. The cheese is awesome, no after taste and the bread, fresh. My only complaint is I do not eat beef or prawns and prefer not to eat pork. There is no chicken option for the fondue so I end up eating some pork and as many vegetables as they will bring out to me. The chocolate fondue is excellent as well.

The staff this last visit (tonight) was extremely competent. They were literally all over the place. We never had an empty glass or a need for anything that wasn't promptly taken care of. The management was very present and involved in making sure everyone had a good experience.

We look forward to our Bavaria everytime we book a trip to Whistler and it will remain that way. I must say, we were a little worried after reading some of the negative reviews here and other places and I'm sorry, but they must have had an off night for them unfortunately. Consistent since 2004 (at least)!

Be sure to take your fat blocking pills beforehand though, yikes!

    Love Whistler and love Bavaria!

Yuuuum-ok-gasm! I loves me some Bavaria. After reading several recent reviews we were afraid that they went downhill somehow in the two years since we've been in Whistler.

No way. I ate so much I nearly split my pants. The food here is amazing. The service was quick by American standards, but compared to typical European restaurants, the service is lightning fast and hyper-attentive. The manager was everywhere, checking on tables and talking to people. The staff were constantly coming by, refilling drinks and even asked if we needed them to call a taxi or shuttle when we got up to leave.

The wine list is impressive and even the house Gewürztraminer was very good (an unfiltered Alsace) and paired perfectly with the fondue. To the other reviewer: it's not traditional to serve bread just out of the oven with fondue. It won't stay on your fork, let alone stand up to the cheese. The baguette was chewy and perfect with the cheese. Go back to the Melting Pot if you like low-brow interpretations.

This place is pricy, no doubt. With drinks and tip, you can easily see $100 per person, if you do the three course fondue dinner. But it is oh so worth it as James says.

This is staying on my list of Whistler top favorites. YUM!

Since when does serving fondue make it ok to use stale bread?! Seriously no excuse for this. The cheese fondue is very uninspired, using a gruyere/emmentaler combination, nor are potatoes offered.

The fondue chinoise is decent but the saving grace is the chocolate fondue, supposedly using belgian milk chocolate which is utterly delectable.

Still, if you are looking to try cheese fondue, this is NOT the place to go. It would likely be your last time.

Nothing to write home about.  If you have a Melting Pot near you, then this place will be a disappointment.  The cheese was good but the other 2 fondues (fried and boiled) was mediocre.

This place was quintessential to a ski village.  It was cozy, great German beer and the food was perfect for a snowy night.  It was nice without being overly expensive.

Yummy food. Worth the prices as the cheese fondue is spectacular.

What a great way to get into the holiday spirit. Upscale enough where you can have a romantic evening. Wine list had great prices and variety.

Service was attentive without being overbearing. A very nice meal overall.

Looking forward to eating here again soon.

Ah Bavaria! I must admit the staff had patience as we changed our reservations 3 times. Very kind!
Personally, I found this meal quite expensive but apparently I'm alone in this out of the group of 4. No one seemed to mind.
Three of us opted for the 3 course fondue which did not disappoint. The cheese fondue was very yummy followed by the meat and veggie fondue served with a variety of dipping sauces. I found this portion of our meal "okay" whereas the belgian chocolate fondue was decadent. One word about the fondue forks: Metal = HOT!!! The little plastic piece on the forks melted  on two forks which caused the handle to separate from the fork part. I burned my fingers a number of times as did the others in my party.
The fourth person of our party had the Schnitzel which looked quite good.
Overall, other than the belgian chocolate fondue, I can do a fondue just as well at home. Myself, I'd choose something else but as I mentioned, the others enjoyed their meals.

At the risk of piling on...

We had a wonderful experience at Bavaria and chose to go there based on the reviews here on Yelp.  I concur with all of the positive reviews.  Fantastic service.  It's a bit more upscale and, correspondingly, the price is higher.  It's great for a dressed-up, sit-down fancy romantic dinner with your love.  The decor is splendid and the fondue was wonderful.

I need to spend a moment talking about the chocolate fondue.  It's Belgian chocolate served with bananas, strawberries, pineapple and 1 each small pastries with slivered almonds.  It was only because I was so sated from the meal that I didn't pick up the bowl with both hands and start licking it when we were done.  I was getting all emotional.

If you're looking for a quick bite to eat and aren't too picky about having a dining experience, go somewhere else.  Dining at the Bavarian Restaurant is an epicurean event and should rightfully be relished as such.

Our whole family decided to go there for my birthday.  Everyone thought the fondue was the best they ever tasted.  The service was attentive but not rushed.  I would highly recommend Bavaria to anyone that wants a fondue night.
