My wife had a craving for biryani so we searched. Found this colorful little take out place and ordered. Food came fast and in the end was delicious. Tasted like it was made at home and worth the search. Best Indian food I have had and I live near Brampton!!
Did not expect it to be so good but when it happens its great. First glance will fool you because it looks dated and fast food but the Naan was done old style with the big round heater and the food was prepared on the stove in front of us. Really enjoyed it. -

I ordered delivery from this place so I can only comment on food and delivery service.
Even though they don't have a delivery charge, they chose an arbitrary minimum value of $80 to deliver to Kanata. I think that's acceptable considering the distance. I just wish they would make it standard by distance rather than arbitrary. The food is nothing to write home about. Generic Indian food with mediocre quality. If you are low on choices and really craving Indian food that this will suffice. -

Just awful. I was looking forward to Indian delivery one night and ordered butter chicken and samosas. Butter chicken was way too sweet and there wasn`t a lot of it for what I paid, the samosa was clearly microwaved.
I do like to try things twice however, and one time I had a huge craving for some Indian food as I was at Hartmans across the street. I went in and got a little combination place, again the samosa was microwaved, the soup was okay (daal I think it was), but the curried chicken was disgusting, all fatty pieces of chicken and I believe tandoori was the other thing in the combination plate I got, really dry. Do yourself a favor and walk up to the New Nupur instead of this place. -

Ugh. My first takeout experience in Ottawa and it did not impress me one bit. The place is pretty outside with the mosaic sign and the promise of delicious Indian fare, but on the inside it looked more like an 80s cafeteria, complete with fluorescent signage with pictures of the menu. I really should have known the food would be terrible when I saw the promise of "Indian Pizza."
We placed our order, said we'd be back in 10 minutes (when they claimed it would be ready) and went across the street to Hartman's. When we came back, the woman who took our order had completely forgotten who we were and asked what we wanted to order. Someone else told her that we were the ones picking up the food that was just made, so she packs it up while her cohort is taking delivery orders on the phone.
While this guy is on the phone, he overcharges us (which I notice, and correct him for -- twice). Then he takes my debit card and wanders around on the phone for another 5 minutes. Finally I pay for the food and take it home.
Butter chicken -- Three pieces of what I could swear were those pre-cooked chicken strips you can get at the grocery store to put in your chicken caesar salad. Literally SWIMMING in butter sauce. Pure butter.
Chana Masala -- Chickpeas in tomato sauce with zero flavour or spice (you'd think the "Masala" part would explain what kind of spice you need to put into the pot).
Naan -- decent. But I had to use it to mop up the Butter sauce and that made it terrible by association.
Total cost $20. So yeah, it's cheap. But it's crap. Bank is covered in construction anyway so just avoid the area completely. You'd be better off with frozen President's Choice Indian meals. -

I waited far too long to go to Basmati. My experience here was exceptional in the cost and quality of service and food. It's a very casual establishment, but the owner makes you feel like he's catering just to you. He went out of his way to suggest meals he could put together for me and apparently they'll also tailor the spiciness of their food to an individual's taste. I decided to take him up on his number one suggestion, which was to give me a serving of three different veggie curries with rice and salad. The curries were delicious and heavy on cilantro, which is just what a chef needs to do to win my heart. In the end, I paid little more than $7 for all that food and a beverage.
They also offer free delivery on their curries with rice. -

My wife and I were taking a walk along the Promenade district of Bank Street when we noticed the most stunning doorway we had seen in Ottawa. It was for Basmati, a sort of fast food Indian place. Basmati is just as colourful inside as the doorway. And the food is a new twist on an old favourite. They have wrap versions of your favourite Indian dishes, like Chicken Tikka and even offer a Tikka pizza. What I appreciated most about Basmati was that you could order any Indian dish, but you can customize the heat. This is great because many Indian dishes are fearsome in their spiciness - and Indian hot is not as nice as other ethnic hot foods. The prices are VERY reasonable (butter chicken for $6???) and it is pretty authentic. It is in a pretty dense area, so parking is not available. But, park on a side street and walk over (or, there is a bus stop RIGHT outside the restaurant!).
