Review from Melissa C.

I went to my first barre class today and I'm already an addict. That's saying a lot because I am not the fitness class or gym type of girl. I find the atmosphere of gyms and classes usually impersonal, big, and foreign.
Upon entering the studio, I already felt at home and welcomed with a beautiful bright, airy space, clean bathrooms, safe storage, friendly staff and instructors and free wifi!
The hour went by in no time with the smooth transitions, awesome music and holistic body workout that merged yoga, ballet and Pilates perfectly! Arms, legs, core and butt - I felt every muscle wake up and shake.. literally! It's great how there's huge mirrors too because you can watch your body and pay attention to it's movement and position - very mind-body awareness.
I really loved my first barre class. Seriously, if you knew me and how reluctant I am to try out classes and gym routines, especially if I'm alone, this is a BIG deal that I'm investing myself in this!
Also, if you're new, they have an awesome deal: $30 for 3 classes to use within a month! Can't go wrong with that!
I can't wait for my next barre class! *and pulse*Listed in: To Keep Tiny and Eat Big

Barre, oh barre, I have so many things to say about you!
First off, I am not a fan of the gym. I've just never seen results from it so I look to other things such as swimming, yoga, pilates and barre to stay active and healthy. I first heard of barre from a friend in LA and found out there was a studio in Vancouver so I had to try it out.
There are a variety of classes offered and the ones I've tried are barre fitness, barre bootcamp, barre flow, classic barre and raise the barre. You can read the descriptions on their website but they are ALL a GREAT workout! Here are all the things I love about barre:
1. Super convenient location, super accessible from the Yaletown Roundhouse Canada Line. All the staff are SUPER friendly, always smiling and making you feel welcome. The studio is clean, simple and gorgeous. You walk in feeling happy!
2. They provide socks for you to wear (don't worry, they are very very clean) and towels. For those of you who are new to barre, you don't wear runners during the workout, you wear socks with extra grippies at the bottom to help you not slip! You have a choice or whether or not to wear them, although I find that most people do. There is also an ice cold water filter for you to fill up your water bottle :)
3. Onto the workout... the workout is FABULOUS. You work EVERY single part of your body and you leave feeling better about yourself, better about your body and your body is thanking you for it. Honestly, after my few couple classes, my legs felt like JELLO. I literally wobbled down the Canada Line stairs to collapse on a seat to go home... hahaha. It's an intense workout that is open to ALL levels.
4. The music - they play hip pop music that almost makes me want to belt out in the middle of class ... yep, I've had to restrain myself a couple times (EVEN in the middle of my plie....yes).
5. It is for EVERYONE. Whether you are new to barre and have no clue what it is or an experienced dancer, this workout will do you good and you will LOVE it. Contrary to what many people think, you do NOT need to have any dance experience to do this! It was inspired by ballet but if you've never worn a tutu before... no worries! Apparently you're supposed to be able to see results after only 10 classes (is what I read somewhere online....) and I honestly believe it.
6. You are able to reserve your spot in class online! The studio is small and classes fill up quickly so booking online is a great option! And plus after you've committed, you pretty much HAVE to go... which leads me to the "cons"
The two reasons I'm giving this place 4 stars (I'd give it 4.5 if I could) is
1. Be careful not to reserve your spot in a class and either don't end up going or don't cancel at least 2 hrs in advance... because they charge a cancellation fee of $15. Although it does go to charity, $15 is kind of a lot.
2. Their fees are quite pricey... It is true that if you go at least 3 - 4 times a week you will get your money's worth but I wish their fees were a little bit more affordable :) Being in Yaletown with a gorgeous studio, the high prices don't surprise me... but I can still hope :)
Go try barre! You won't regret it :) -

Motivating, friendly staff in a great studio environment. Instructors are very knowledgeable and experienced with strong fitness backgrounds. Workouts are always varied and go by so fast you don't even feel like you have been there for an hour. Definitely a place to check out if you are looking for a new workout routine and don't want to go to the gym or do weights. Also, great for anyone who wants to get a workout in and then head right to the office. You barely break a sweat but don't let that fool you as you will for sure feel the burn!

Great Location, Beautiful Studio, Friendly, Professional Staff and a great workout!!! I enjoyed the class and definitely felt the burn in my arms the next day. They're doing a great thing also having the Sunday session where proceeds go to a selected charity each month! Awesome work team!
