I have been to better Barnes & Nobles bookstore, but we were in the area and I had gift cards to spend!
Browsed through a ton of International cooking books and finally settled on 3 books. 2 were for Gourment Indian Cooking and another for vegetarian cooking. I look forward to creating some simple yet yummy culinary delights from these books.
They have a Starbucks inside.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Karen T.Riverside, United States819538Aug 11, 2012
Let me start off by saying that I hate this location. Every time I go in there, the employees are pompous and rude. The only reason I went there yesterday was because I teach in Tracy and my husband asked them to hold a book so I could pick it up.
I am a regular B & N customer. I love my educator discount and try to shop when I can in Modesto because of the friendlier staff. I have been using my educator card for several years and never have a problem.
The next part I'm going to bring up I believe had something to do with the way I was treated. I have a septum ring that I hide when I'm teaching and I also have tattoos on my shoulders. I looked kind of ragged yesterday because I'd been setting up my classroom for about ten hours.
After I picked up some books for my kids, I went to the back register to pay for them and pick up the book on hold. The girl had never rung up a hold before, so the manager was helping her. When I presented her my educator card, The manager told the girl to "make sure to check my ID because I might not really be a teacher and they needed to be sure." The manager was a complete (fill in the blank) about it, was rude in her demeanor, and was generally unpleasant. When I questioned her about checking my ID she balked. Obviously if my bank card and discount card don't match they should check ID but what the hell? I think that entire store from management down needs a lesson in customer service. I will not be going back any time soon.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Abby S.Brookings, United States123206701Jun 10, 2008
They don't always have the books I am looking for, but neither does Borders so perhaps I'm just picking popular books? They'll order almost anything so it's not a problem (not that I let them, I just hit Amazon.com if they don' t have it). Hey they had Gothic Beauty Magazine in stock! So I can't complain :-) I've been looking for it at Borders Pleasanton forever with no luck.
I like that they have a great selection of books, a Starbucks inside, AND they sell Godiva chocolates. This place is a little slice of heaven in my opinion!
They only get 4 stars instead of 5 because I regularly can't find a book if I'm looking for something specific. Usually I'm just browsing for something that looks entertaining so they're fine.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Michele C.Tracy, United States865May 30, 2007First to Review
The ultimate bookstore. It has a relaxing and laid-back atmosphere. Part bookstore, part cafe, part music store, what can you not like? I usually come with people to either study, buy music, order something from the cafe, or read through magazines.
Plus it's no big deal if you don't buy anything. Just as long as you be nice and put whatever you read back to where it belongs. I'm sure it sucks for the employees to find where to place everything again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kat P.Tracy, United States32018052Jan 4, 2009
Not that much study room, Or seats beside the Starbucks area. Help Where can I got to study besides Starbucks and the Library, (it stinks) in Tracy. Any suggestions. Not that big selection.

My little bookworms love this store! Always a great place for my munchkins. The kids' section is so inviting and well organized. My family can spend the afternoon here perusing the aisles. For me, it's nice having a Starbucks in the store, coffee and a good book...always a great combination. Staff is nice and friendly.

I remember coming here all the time to do some homework with my friends in high school and cause they had Starbucks too. I love how they have a lot of seating than most Barnes and Nobles. I came here recently with my sister and she needed some help at the customer service to find a book but no employees were there. Luckily there was a section under summer reading where she found all the books she needed to buy near the entrance to the mall. Other than that, I love coming here and sit down to read while my parents/friends are at the mall shopping.

Been kinda disappointed lately. Not been carrying certain books and magazines I've been hunting for. Borders has though. What's up with that?

Although i'd rather buy books from their website counterpart, nothing beats the feeling of actually touching and seeing what you are buying. not to mention services from real humans. the staff here are very well trained and knowledgeable of their products. great place but tends to be teenagy crowded after school hours because of the fact it is connected to the mall.

I love the internet, and as such, it is my primary resource for research and enjoyable reading. I'm not a "book-worm" and generally don't enjoy novels. But the magazine section is great here! There is a huge selection no matter what you're in to. The staff is helpful but there are few (A FEW) places to sit to review some material before a purchase. I don't know what it is, but the people who use the seats end up bogarting them for hours! When they're done, they pass the chair off like they're handing off a baton in a foot race, usually to someone they know. I'm not even sure they're patrons of the store (and probably not my business) but it seems like its more of a library to some folks.
