Unlike the Three Dog Bakery which is mostly focused on treats, or other pet boutiques that pride themselves on products, accessories or clothes, Bark & Fitz offers a dynamic shopping experience built on interesting, fun, and unique toys, accessories, and treats. While I know what to expect in most other pet stores, I find I can't leave this one without doing a full lap usually with my own dogs in tow.

If you're downtown for a jaunt through Point Pleasant Park, this shop makes a great next stop that is sure to put a smile on everyone's faces, human or canine.

'Bark and Fitz' is an excellent stop off for the occasionally pampered or blatantly spoiled pooch in your life.

This specialty store for dogs not only carries fresh hand made doggie treats but a wealth of other useful (and decadent) canine items: bright coloured leashes and collars, harnesses, eco-fleece beds, and floatable chew toys that even come in flavours like mint!

Walking through this shop certainly made me miss my spoiled lab, Monty.

Some of you will turn up your noses in utter disgust at the sheer gall of someone creating, let alone carrying, gluten free, all natural, allergen free pet food. I personally have had a pet with dietary restrictions so I'm actually happy that places carry specialty pet food like this. Admittedly, I don't think the average healthy puppy needs to dine on the 'Fromm' varieties of: Grain free surf and turf, duck and sweet potato, whitefish and potato or pork and applesauce, all of which can be found at your friendly gourmet pet food shop: 'Bark and Fitz.'

I was impressed to see the following on the 'Bark and Fitz' chalkboard as I walked in today too: A list of plant and plant products most likely to poison animals, based on Veterinary pet insurance claims received in 2008.
    1. Raisins/grapes
    2. Mushrooms (backyard variety)
    3. Marijuana
    4. Lily
    5. Walnuts
    6. Onion
    7. Sago Palm
    8. Macadamia Nuts
    9. Azalea
    10. Hydrangea

I would consider posting this on my fridge if I were you! I was VERY surprised to see that chocolate didn't make the list... Did I have the only lab to be diagnosed with dietary indiscretion?

Oh it's pricey, that's a given. Come on, it's a specialty dog shop. What I love about this shop, though, is that it's not full of "floofey" little dog suits and diamond tiaras and such. There are bowls and leashes and toys and collars and lots of delicious-looking homemade doggie treats.

Oh, and the owner is REALLY friendly and very interested in all my dog stories, no matter how inane.

There is a groomer out back, but I've never used their grooming services.

Big points for friendliness and expertise.

These places seem to be popping up all over the place. Maybe that is because us NS people love our Dogs. Bark and & Fitz is a place to go when you would like to spoil that special hairy loved one.

Anything from the special dog food in a bag to leases and specialized jewelled dog collars that you can spell out your pets name in diamond jewels and put it on a collar, too cute. They as well have a large selection of toys and stuffed animals for your animals.

In the front counter is like Tim's but for dogs and these are healthy. Special cookies and biscuits to these little things that look like cinnamon buns that I think I would eat it they were on the table.

As well there is also available family pictures photography with you and your furry friend.

Because I am sometimes an idiot, I went into Bark & Fitz looking for a Christmas gift for a very special cat in my life.

I figured, sure, it's a store for dogs, but cats are also four legged and furry...maybe there is some cross over.

There's very little, but I found something anyway. This is mostly because the workers were able to give me a real helping hand. After we had a laugh at my idiocy we got down to checking out the store for something that could be a cat toy.

And after a few minutes we came across the holy grail. Yes, we found a string of balls attached to a stick. This was the greatest Christmas gift of all.

While I wouldn't recommend this place for fools like me who are on a last minute dash for cat presents, I would definitely recommend it for people who want to treat their pooch to the finer things, as there are a lot of great items in here.

And if you're looking for a string of balls attached to a stick for your cat, then this is your store!

I was introduced to Bark & Fitz while living in Ottawa, and recently discovered that such puppy boutiques exist here in Halifax as well- which is nice (Gizmo, my little daschund, seems to approve too!)

Let me say right off the bat that I'm not one for ruthlessly spoiling my dog, or dressing him up so he coordinates with my outfits (kinda tacky, in my humble opinion), so some of the little doggie clothes and rhinestone-embellished collars have no appeal for me.  I did however pick up a pair of booties for Giz so that he wouldn't hurt his little paws during the icy winter months, and he doesn't seem to mind them (he's had pairs in the past that were so uncomfy that he looked more like a waddling duck then a dog...).  I also splurged on a comfy carrying bag for him which I find very useful when travelling with my little guy on road trips and trips to the vet.

What I like about the store is that I can buy the necessities for my dog such as bowls leashes, and nice new collars, and for the most part they're really reasonably priced.  My dog likes exploring all of the toys and the cookies (he's like a little kid! Quite adorable).  Usually, when I make a trip to the B&F, I bring Gizmo along and I'll buy him a new toy and a treat at the baked goods counter. (The baked goods are all-natural and healthy for own furry friends, and they look like something you'd find behind the counter of a luxe café.)

Bark and Fitz offers a variety of other bulk organic dog biscuits and dry food brands, but I find that I'm more partial to regular grocery-store pet food. My dog doesn't seem to like the B&F products any more than his usual food (and in fact, he's more inclined to just eat "people food"), so I can't justify spending extra money for organic treats.  Perhaps if I had a dog that did like the food, I might splurge a little and buy more of it.

Bottom line:  This place is nice for the luxurious treats and toys, and I like how it caters exclusively to canine companions.  Some of the products could be just as readily available at a local Petsmart of other pet company, but on the whole I have no qualms about bringing my puppy here.

This is just a happy place for happy dogs. From its pet friendly ramped entrance and onwards, Bark & Fitz is all about pampering your pup from the inside out.

With specialty treats and bulk food, this shop carries elements of holistic and quality lifestyle to our furry friends. Giving an option for natural and byproduct free foods are great for owners who prefer to go the extra distance. And it doesn't stop at food. The shop houses oodles of creative toys, clothes, and accessories for pampering purposes.

The staff offer service with a smile and a helpful approach. Bring your pup right into the store and take a look around. Its very much a fun place to be with extensive product to spoil your pet senseless. Great shop!

This store makes me wag my tail...if I had one. I love Bark & Fitz! If you have a budget, this can be almost the only pet store you need to go to for pet supplies. I love their treat section. Where else in the city are you going to find Poochi Sushi!? I am a Sushi lover and so is my dog. Actually my dog is a fan of anything on the floor. But I love getting her a piece of "dog sushi." And for two dollars, I don't feel like I'm breaking the bank.

The entire store is just littered with tons of toys, food products and pet supplies! One of my favorite products is the "Halo" animal food. There are no byproducts or anything that would be harmful to your pet. I could talk about what is in the store all day long and how much I love it, but I suggest you simply check out their website or stop by the store.

When you do stop on by, you will find great, friendly customer service. The staff that work there obviously love animals. And Bark & Fitz also works with community animal groups such as the SPCA. The pricing for the products is as high as I feel it could be before making people think they are getting ripped off. Its still good though, and the fact that the store is right downtown makes it very easy.

This store is a wonderful addition to the downtown Halifax area. The staff are great, products fantastic and pricing...not too bad. If you have a dog, cat or whatever, Bark & Fitz should definitely be on your shopping list.

A little pampering paradise!  This store carries clothing for your pooch, collars, food, bowls, toys, etc.  Home made goods too!

Definitely recommend this place to anyone with a dog, even the smallest little furry monsters will benefit! They carry XXS!

For anyone out there with a little extra money in their pocket who's looking to treat their dog - I recommend shopping at Bark & Fitz.

Bark & Fitz is a high-end pet-store predominantly catering to dog-owners. They offer only the most exquisite pet treats and pampering products. They have everything from elegant doggy toys and accessories to pet gift-ware (including pet frames, pendants, gift cards and more). They even have a very extensive doggy bakery with only the most sophisticated treats.

But of course luxury must come at a price, and a steep one at that. So, if you're planning on making any purchases... be prepared to walk about with a pretty steep bill.

Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! This place is a haven for the canine-loving individual with some dough to drop.

From pup-food and treats, to delicate necklaces for the humans in order to express their dog-love, this store is serious about companions of the four-legged, hairy variety.

They also have grooming services, as well as provide info on how to keep your pup happy and healthy. Bark & Fitz has a boutique, shi-shi vibe going on - but seems like a good place to shop for quality dog-food and interesting canine products!
