Review from Jamie B.
I absolutely loved Barclay House. We stayed in the Mountain Room for 2 nights and found it be lovely, and enjoyed every aspect of the B&B. When we walked into our room there were fresh baked cookies and champagne. We took advantage of the beautiful common room and played a game of chess, and read in the chairs on the front porch.
Dennis, the owner, was so accommodating and pleasant. When we first arrived he asked about any allergies or dietary needs we might have, and took that into consideration when making our breakfast. I don't eat meat besides fish, so instead of making eggs benedict with ham, they replaced the ham with smoked salmon. The breakfast was amazing. My husband also has a mild chocolate allergy, so on the second day, instead of making chocolate chip cookies for us, they made peanut butter. I just thought that was so sweet.
This is a gorgeous B&B, with amazing service, in the perfect location. You cannot go wrong here. -
Review from Brandon M.
Was referred to the Barclay house by my wife. She wanted a B And B experience for her birthday weekend. I've done B and B's and I'm not a fan. Sometime about staying in someone's house isn't appealing to me but I understand that people love them.
The room we stayed in (the Haidaway) was very unique. A basement type room but fixed up really nice. I thought someone had smoked in the room but later realized there was a patio that doubled into a smoking section and that the smoky air trailed in behind us once we opened the door. There is a babbling brook rock featueThe layout is really nice. A Native American/Asian influence. Artwork was nice. There's a desk and a living room. Love that there's a TV, DVD player and cable. Would have loved a flat screen. Maybe an upgrade would be nice for future guests. The room also carries a CD player and Ipod docking station. There is a coffee maker and electric kettle for tea. Also, I little bottle of champagne. Great way to bring in the new year.
The jazzuci tub was very nice. Kinda sticks out because of the layout but a very nice touch. The Bathroom was nice. The clear "peekaboo" type tiles in the shower are a cool touch. You can see the person in the bathroom in the living room showering and what not. I would keep that in mind if you aren't traveling with a significant other. The bed wasn't as comfortable. More firm vs. anything but to each it's own. You can see the TV from the bed which is a cool perk.
The one big Con I have is with the windows near the bed. The other windows all are privacy windows, the two near the bed aren't. There are curtains but you can see through the cracks directly to the bed to the outside which didn't put me at ease. Had to put the vases, umbrella holders and my suitcase against the window to close that opening. Hopefully they will get that fixed in the future for the traveler's piece of mind. The common area was very nice. The house has books and DVDS for the guests use is great bonus. There is a computer for internet access and you can have access to the wireless internet as well. Make sure you ask the staff for the details.
The staff; Dennis and Arty are very courteous and friendly. They do their best to stay out of your way but are available if needed. They offered for use to stay longer past check out for no additional cost which is rare and so nice. The breakfast was great. Simple and elegant. All in all, the Barclay house is a great place. I would recommend this for a very special occasion. The price per night screams a special occasion aka pretty costly. But if you are a B and B lover and heading to the Vancouver area, this is a place you have to check out. Close to Downtown, 15 minute walking or a 5 minute cab ride. Close to Stanley Park. They do supply free parking in the back of the house. But be careful of the dumpster drivers. They are a few within the DT area.
Only thing that I wish the Barclay House would improve is the windows near the bed, Flat screen for the rooms, a fresh coat of paint inside the room and bathroom, and clearer instructions for the internet access and obtaining your room key (Would be great to know before we get there). A Great Place and a great way to ring in the new year. Wouldn't mind going back for a special occasion. -
Review from Becca C.
This is one of the best bed and breakfasts I've had the pleasure of staying in. While I usually like more traditional (read: antique) houses with respective furnishings, Barclay House has the interesting appeal of mixing old with new in a delightful way. Someone put a lot of thought and effort into restoring this bright yellow Victorian, both inside and out.
We stayed in the Haidaway Room which had its own separate entrance. Guests usually arrive by 6pm, but they were more than happy to accept us at 8pm while showing us the features of the room and ensuring we were happy with our room. Tasty chilled champagne and moist cookies waited for us in the beautiful suite. The Haidaway is the only room in the Bed and Breakfast that has a whirlpool jetted tub, so keep that in mind when selecting a room. I loved the alcove the platform bed was placed in; it made it seem so quaint and comfortable. We brought up our bikes from Seattle, staying the Haidaway was perfect since it was on the ground floor, and there was a nice hallway that opened up into our room for storage of the bikes.
Their breakfasts weren't the most delicious I've ever had, but they were hearty and had a great deal of variety. The coffee is excellent. What struck me most was the presentation of the food; I felt this was a fine dining experience with the fine silverware, china and silver creamer cups.
Speaking of household wares, I must admit I absolutely love the decor of the house. Next to a beautiful antique buffet table are ultr-mod clear plastic chairs. The colors of the main floor are neutral; calming blue walls with earthy beige floors and white crown molding. Black upholstered chairs and dramatic black chandeliers had some sexy flair, as does a leopard-print sitting chair and fresh colorful bouquets.
The hosts are wonderful because they've thought out all the details and are warm as well as professional. There is a computer with internet so guests can check their email or download a map of Stanley Park. There are Vancouver travel books and walking-tour cards you can take with you to explore the sights.
By the way, the sights are within mere blocks of the B'n'B. Located in downtown Vancouver, just walk 2 street over to Robson for amazing food, wine and bar scene. Some amazing Italian can be had at Zefferelli's, just a suggestion. If you want to go bike-riding, you are easily within biking/jogging/walking distance to the uber-famous Stanley Park. Even the aquabus stop that goes to the Granville Public Market is nearby.
When all is said and done, I would have a really hard time trying out any other accomodations in Vancouver. Thanks, Barclay House.Listed in: Hotels, Resorts, Hostel and…

Vancouver, BC
Barclay House's welcoming yellow finish beams brightly from a distance. Located just a short block from Vancouver's main drag, Robson Street, Barclay invites guests to step away from the bustle and into quiet ease
Boasting six well-appointed rooms, Barclay House is a thoughtful blend of elegance and comfort. Each room has a distinct personality: the aptly named Beach Room is bright and sunny with turquoise finishing; the Peak is in the garret and, taking into account its name, occupies the entire floor; and the Haidaway with its interesting Haida-influence furnishings.
In addition, amenities like hair dryers, irons, free wireless internet, mini fridges and coffee makers are available to all guests. Everything, in addition to the sheets (the softest ever) and the welcoming basket filled with cookies, was chosen with care and consideration.
After what must have been the best night's sleep on the softest sheets ever, breakfast was served in the main dining area. Blueberry muffins were brought out, still warm, to be shortly followed by eggs benedict (served with homemade Hollandaise sauce) and an unlimited supply of fresh coffee and juice. -

Fantastic B&B very conveniently situated near Stanley Park and Robson. Called at the last minute on a rainy weekend, got a great rate and a very warm welcome. The bed and breakfast is beautifully decorated in a modern chic style that blends well with the original moldings, fireplace, stained glass, etc. No doilies or teddy bears at this B&B! Breakfast was wonderful and our entire stay relaxing. Highly recommend and can't wait to return!
