Everything about the Barberella experience is wonderful. Sandy and her staff are hilarious and put you to ease as soon as you step in the door. The shop itself is adorable, and the products she uses are great. I have unruly curly hair, and the curl serum I purchased here has been the best I've found so far.

I have received more compliments from the haircuts I received at Barberella than any others in my entire life, so I have to say I wholeheartedly recommend it.

What a terrible experience. I went in to check it out a few days ago after hearing good reviews about it. Yes, the place is nicely decorated and sure, it gave off a chic image when I walked in. Too bad it was the worst hair experience I've had in my life. What a rip off.

The assistant sylist shampooed my hair and used a green towel that smelled like it had never been washed. I sat in the waiting area telling myself to shut up and stop complaining, but seriously? It's a hair salon and should have clean, freshly washed towels ready.

I asked Sandy, the main hairstylist, to trim my hair, which is (was!) almost waist length. I even specified how many inches (ONE!) I wanted off. Next thing I knew, my hair was shoulder length and she was humming along like nothing had happened. Are you serious?!

Judging from the good reviews, I think it's fair to say that she does a good job most of the time. She is a nice lady and seems to take pleasure in what she does. However, I was EXTREMELY disappointed and dissatisfied that she didn't listen to me or even respect my request. I didn't go in there for a totally new hairstyle. I went in there for a trim, paid over $50 for exactly what I did not want, and now am seriously considering spending hundreds of dollars on extensions because it is such a drastic change.

Thanks for nothing. Never to return. ***Ladies who take pride in their long hair, STAY AWAY!***

Sandy Kramer is my favorite stylist ever. I constantly get compliments on my color, and it's all because of Sandy. One day I brought her a wig and I said "I want to match this," and for the last five years she's been matching it to a tee.

I joke with her on this, but if you want an inch off, tell her you want 1/2 an inch. Sandy loves to cut!

Besides her winning personality and talent for hair, Sandy's salon is also absolutely beautiful. Forget trendy and snobby Birmingham spots. Sandy can do just as good as them, but with a much, much more friendly and relaxing atmosphere.

This was my first time going to Barbarella. I moved to RO a few months ago and didn't feel like driving to Saline to see my old hair stylist. I found Barbarella thanks to you guys! :)
The salon is located in a quaint old neighborhood and I almost drove by it. The inside is very clean and charming with hip music.

Sandy, the owner and the only stylist, is sweet, patient, and full of energy. I brought a picture with me and told her that's what I would like but I'm open to suggestions if she thinks that's not appropriate for my face/hair. I am a grad student with two jobs so I was looking for a cute haircut that doesn't need too much maintenance.  That's exactly what Sandy gave me!
Oh, plus... she makes sure that the length of the hair matches on both sides before you get off that chair!!! Big pet peeve of mine.

I spent quite a few bucks but it's well worth it. I will certainly go back to see her.

Oh, yeah... don't forget: cash or checks!

Sandy Kramer is the craziest, funniest, coolest hairdresser in town. Her cute little laugh, cat-eye glasses and squeaky voice make you just want to hug her and not let go.

If you read my review of Gina Agosta salon in Novi, you'll see that one free color job from Sara Jayne and I was hooked, but before that, I was all Barberella. And truth be told, now that I have to pay full price at Gina Agosta, the lure of Hamtramck prices will probably put me on an every-other schedule.

Not only is Sandy hilarious, her shop is the cutest thing EVER. She kept some of the original stuff from when she bought it and then added her quirky punk rock meets 50s style. She has a collection of vintage hair dryers placed up on a shelf that goes around the salon, and a few of those beauty school disembodied heads that are really creepy but interesting.

I don't know who Sandy's assistant is currently, but she always has cool hipster girls who she pushes around a little bit (it's kind of cute; she doesn't do it in a mean way).

Sandy does ridiculously awesome color -- her own red 'do is always spot on. And her cuts are never cookie cutter. If you just want a trim, she'll do it, of course. But Sandy is best at the quirky, slightly funky haircuts that people notice.

Sorry for using that word again, but Sandy is DEFINTITELY quirky; my old boss even calls her "Crazy Kramer." And unless you are more L.L. Bean than L.L. Cool J, you will fall in love with her when you meet her.

Now I'm feeling bad for abandoning her for the Novi glam squad. : (

What can I say...I absolutely love Sandy! I have been going to Sandy for probably 5 years now...I think! I went to her based on a recommendation from someone at Metro Times. I needed help w/ my hair color after being unhappy with my stylist at the time. She has done an amazing job on my cut & especially my color since day 1! I get tons of compliments on my hair color.
Sandy has a great personality, lots of fun, creative and a funky little salon that's always fun to visit.

    I LOVE SANDY!!!!!!

she put a blond streak in my hair today (when she called it a "fun patch" i did not want to punch my teeth out because Sandy can get away with things that no other human can) and cut it.

i didn't know how to describe what i wanted. i was mildly worried that i would look like an aging raver or club girl from 2001, but i don't!!! i gave a vague idea and an hour later it was exactly what i didn't know i wanted. i always love my hair when i leave barberella.

I love going to Barbarella. It feels like a lil vacation with the ladies. Good magazines, good music, good haircut. I'm going to get something done that I HAVE to get done (I wait way too long between haircuts) and it sort of feels like I'm going to a party. Plus Sandy totally gets my hair and how if it goes too short it sort of triangulates. Who knew beauty maintenance could be so fun?

I love Barberella because the owner is so lovable and excellent hairdresser.  Priced reasonable- for the neighborhood.  Sandy does all the cuts herself and works with one assistant.  All I can say is she is Divine and going to her salon is like going to a colorful Spa and she keeps you smiling.

Sandy is a stich and has been cutting my hair for years.  She always makes it fun and does a great job every time.  The building she's in is really interesting and full of great old stuff and lots of good products.  There's always cool music playing and I always walk out smiling and happy.
