Review from Dustin H.
Normally I'm wary of stores that look like this one or offer custom printed T-shirts because they tend to be frequented by a sort of hipster, "too cool to shop at normal stores" type of clientelle that make it MUCH too tempting to just up and punch them in the face, and it's just not worth it... however, I took the chance and popped into Bang-On while I was in Vancouver, cause I was on the lookout for cool little shops in the downtown area to grab some interesting "souvenir but not really" items to remember my trip by.
What I saw inside was a combination of awesomeness that was almost too much to handle! It was late October, so naturally one wall was taken up by costume items - though even those were mostly the cooler, more niche and unexpected end of the spectrum, but the more "regular stock" part of the store was filled with leather jackets, cool t-shirts (and a wide variety of plain ones to print custom designs on), and interesting accessories like sunglasses and the like... but there was one little rack in the back corner that just made my day and kept me busy for a good 20 minutes, just going through every variety, trying every one on and looking for just the right one. Three words...
MEXICAN LUCHADOR MASKS!
Oh... hell... yes! This was the moment I fell in love with this store. I know it's a niche that wouldn't appeal to a lot of people, but it instantly drove this place way up to near the top of my "favorite places in Vancouver" list.
The pricing seemed a bit steep, but that's always the case for these kind of stores, especially in Van... so I wasn't surprised, and the sheer variety of really cool stuff more than made up for it.

Bang-On is a cross Canada chain that we can proudly say started in Vancouver. While Robson isn't the flagship store per se it definitely is one of the more interesting ones.
Bang-On generally offers the ability to iron-on premade or custom designs to their varied selection of t-shirts. It used to be kind of just band stuff but lately they do actually have some interesting shirts you can make and it's worth perusing the books.
The Robson location though is kind of unique for the amount of other stuff they offer. There's tons of accessories and weird 80s kitsch items that make a great quick gift or cheaply complete an outfit or costume. I've gotten some good belt deals here on the sly and while I'd never admit I bought it here, it's good to know I have the option. -

On the cusp of kitsch-trendiness, this clothing store / mod shop is located right on the intersection of Robson and Burrard, selling expensive retro gear and a slew of post-modern metro sexual accessories.
With complete sections of the store dedicated to sunglasses, belt buckles, and trucker hats, it has a complete do-it-yourself guide to becoming a scenester. The best part of this store though would be the huge variety of t-shirts and tank tops in every color, and the store gets its name from the huge catalogue of options for ironing on while you wait. It's fun just to look through all the options, from Kids in the Hall characters to Betty Boop, and wondering who the hell would ever get a t-shirt with astrological symbols next to silhouettes having sex in whatever position "corresponded" to their sign.
The staff resemble the type of kids from Empire Records, only with Mohawks, more piercings, and studded armbands. They're nice and friendly, even to people who don't usually dress for attention, and will compliment you if you pick something particularly cool and unique from their database of iron-ons. Oh, and sometimes during the busy hours a Michael Jackson impersonator will dance in front of the store for spare change. -

I like that I can get a shirt that I know will fit me, in the colour I want, with the image I want on it. A lot of times when I am out shopping I may see a rad graphic on a shirt, but the colour is all wrong, or the cut of the shirt is just heinous. I have actually had to cut images off of shirts and sew them onto other shirts to get the ultimate shirt, which is total balls. But I guess that's the price of fashion?
Bang-On has a lot of shades, necklaces, and random 80's shit all over the place, which makes it look pretty cool, and they are usually playing retro tunes and rock videos. The staff will take time out from cutting up custom letters for "stagette" party tshirts to help you put together a shirt to your liking. Beware though, once the shirt is printed it is a final sale, so chose wisely young grasshopper. I find that the staff used to up-sell me on graphic tees a lot in the past, (2 shirts and your second graphic is free), and you used to be able to barter with them on prices for stuff, but the last few times I have gone in, they have been pretty solid on their stance regarding prices, so I don't shop there as much as I used to.
If you still wear slouch socks, side-ponytails, or have grown an "ironic" moustache, this is probably the store for you. -

After a useless experience at the new Davie store (see my other review), we proceeded to the Robson store. The service was prompt, the results (print on the butt of my boxer briefs, for the Underwear Affair) were great, and I got what I wanted.
The only reason I don't give 5 stars is the price - I didn't expect this to cost over $20. But maybe I'm stuck in the '80s. So, it's a good 4 stars. -

Love it! You get to be your own tshirt designer without have to deal with the huge overhead costs that are associated with being a designer. Maybe this is where you test out your skills to see if you actually want to be a designer!
Other than being a breeding ground for aspiring tshirt designers, Bang On sells lets of crazy things - from belts to purses to different styles of tops that are customizable.
warning: may not be a good store to bring children into. my little cousin came here with me once, and then proceeded to ask me was a MILF was!!! Uh oh. -

Bang On is a great spot to grab that weird accessory. From bizarre glasses and hats to buttons and gloves, if it's unusual, chances are they'll have it. Most the time I find everything here to be clichéd, however it's worth a pop in to see what you can discover.
Their main role is imprinting t shirts, the price is modest and it tends to last. If you need something said on a shirt, Bang On is your place. This is essentially the same store as Cherry Bomb. The difference is here you will get decent service.
Cherry Bomb: bad. Bang on: better. -

Getting a t-shirt made is never a bad time, particularly if it's for something totally obscene or ridiculous. You can walk around with 'Deep Throat' or 'Canadian Beavers Are Hot' on your chest if you so desire...or something a little more tame, it's totally up to you! I love the accessories here; belts in every colour and pattern imaginable for 20 bones, as well as a million sunglasses for every taste. The staff is always friendly and the prices won't knock your socks off.

I went there and bought a pair of shorts. I decided to return them 30 minutes later with the tag attached and the guy refused to take them back even though I had a receipt. He told me that I couldn't return it as they don't allow any returns at that store. Stay away. They're a rip off.

Pandering styles that are at least 6 months out of date. if you think ironic and fake retro shirts are cool then you'll probably feel at home here. why not go to a real spot like "cherry bomb" or "vintage clothing" on Davie if you want to get hip, authentic retro gear that won;t be out of style by the time you take it out of the bag and put it on.
