Review from Barry M.
This is a newly renovated Coffe Shop that is now a coffee/tea house/restaurant. This place has somewhat of an identiy crisis, I'm not sure what to think of it.
The food is selections were all over, but the dinner appetizers were mostly deep fried foods. There was a large menu of drink/tea selections, a lot of what you might find in a bubble tea or other asian themed cafe. There is a bunch of anime videos in the back that are available to rent, but it's not a world that I'm that familiar with, but there did seem to be a lot of them. Playing there was a good selection of dinner lounge music that you might find playing softly in a romantic lounge (I enjoyed it, it let me relax and read my book) but felt odd for a bright open cafe space.
The menu, a single sheet of printed paper, reminded me when I was a kid renting nintendo games they'd give with it a photocopied manual which had always seen better days. Why spend all the money opening a new restaurant, but print the menu out on a printer and hand it to the customer? To me the menu should get me excited about the food I'm about to order. I hoped they had more passion in creating a good dish than making a menu.
I tried:
Malt Royal Milk Tea - I don't really drink tea or milk-based drinks, but I wanted to experience it. It wasn't really my thing, the malt flakes were interesting, not something I'd try again though.
Yam Fries - probably frozen and deep fried, they were ok. The sauce was ok. It was presented very nicely.
Deep fried pork cutlet sandwitch with salad. The menu selections weren't wowing me, so I went with what they had on special. It was actually well done, again it was presented very nicely and arrived promptly.
Mano and Peach Rum Couli with Strawberries - a great deal for $3, this was very tasty and presented well. Wasn't too sweet and wasn't too custardy.
In total everything came to ~$22.50 plus tip.
The service was very friendly and helpful when I asked about the dessert.
The biggest things they might want to work on are what's available on the menu for food - the food I did have was well done. Or maybe there were excellent things on there, but I was just underwhelmed by what was shown to me. Call me tacky - I am fine with pictures on my menu ;) With a few small improvements they could easily be a 4/5.
