    Haiku Review!

    My kind of antiques -
    Curios, ephemera,
    so much history.

    Not much furniture
    but thousands of small pieces
    Each has a story

    The lady working
    Could win big on Jeopardy.
    What doesn't she know?

    Like a museum,
But you can buy the pieces!
    What a collection!

Great shop, great selection and great people working there!

Firstly, thanks to my fellow Yelpers for turning me onto to this place. As with every town I go to, I put in my favorite key search word "oddities" and this store popped right up!

We headed over to be pleasantly greeted by wonderful window displays complete with a taxidermied rabbit driving a vintage push car! Yes, please - may I purchase??

There were so many things to look at and marvel over. If I had more time plus more room in my luggage, I would've bought the whole damn shop! There is also a room with the cream of the crop vintage pieces that if you are nice, they will let you go into.

Some items are display only, much to my dismay, but no worries as there are still thousands of items to choose from such as Freemason & Oddfellows collectibles, vintage medical ephemera, statuaries, vintage animal collectibles, original victorian era photos, a Mr Peanut costume, sideshow memorabilia - oh my list could go on and on....

Very nice owner and the employee with the rad mustachio was friendly and informative. I will definitely go back and ship my purchases back to LA!!!!!

Although the OCD neat freak in me SOOO wants to start organizing this place..I know I know..it the whole eclectic... antique...search for the hidden gem concept..but it really makes me anxious...

Bakers Dozen sells a mix of antique pieces as well as new fun home decor items..trinkets...gadgets..and whatzits...

I love the tin robots..so cool..fun gifts for that person in your life that loves interesting stuff for there home..I started a collection for my partner...

My favorite find was vintage Christmas ornaments still in the original box..that my Grandma used to have..it reminded me of being 5 years old and helping her decorate the tree with too much tinsel...it was a warm fuzzy Christmas moment...

But seriously...they need to do something about the back part of the second room...just go and you'll understand..you may find me there organizing and cleaning...

Freaking incredible collection of old sh*t, and it only gets better as you move through the three store fronts.  Name it: paintings, trinkets, watches, old photos, gadgets, furniture, apothecaries, memorabilia, glass, bags, signs, lots of taxidermied animals, so much more.  It's true that I can't afford much of any of it, but it is astounding to look at.

Just when my partner was dragging me out, an employee (a fantastic gentleman with a fantastic moustache), pulled us to the back to browse their collection of nineteenth and early twentieth century paper items and image prints.  The back room is the best: ask to be let in if it's locked.  It's part museum, part store, with random pieces and vignettes made of their less saleable items.

I've been into curiosities stores around the world that wanted to be this cool, but Bakers Dozen has outdone them all.

What a cool little place this is! Bakers Dozen Antiques on Main Street is chock full of old-school goodness -- you may want to leave your huge Louis Vuitton at home, in fear you may knock some priceless knick knack over!

Besides tons of antique treasures, I found a selection of cool contemporary giftware at Bakers Dozen, too, as well as a pack of vintage Vancouver City postcards for just $10.

Noel note: Be sure to check the vintage Christmas ornaments out. They'll have you singing Joy to the World!

ahh memories.. perhaps absence does make the heart grow fonder.

after a lengthy stay away from 'Bright Lights, Big City', my first stop ashore was at my perenial favorite "A Baker's Dozen"  Antiques on the Main St row.
More a center of curios and whimsy then antiquities, there is always something to smile about, comment upon or give pause. In the Vancouver scene, this was the place to find a most unique piece for home decor or an uber cool house warming gift .

Most items are carefully arranged under glass as propinquity allows, and therein lies the first caveat: under glass means the offerings are pretty dear in price.

The store over time seems to have devolved into zones of astethic: curio cabinet display to toy museam, then disheveled junk room for project items to a semi-private atilier where afore mentioned 'junk' becomes interesting but optimistically prices 'art'.
Zones in care and quality but NOT priced accordingly.. I moved through the store from being charmed to annoyed, then outright indignant. I'll credit the purveyors with a good eye and esthetic but demerit for a very poor sense of value. This store isn t 'San Francisco chic' so why the SF pricing.

and so in closing what once was the penultimate 'antiquing' in Vancouver has now faded as the shop has also faded to some level of desuetude.

advice: go to 'Stepback' on Broadway.. retro cool with retro pricing.

Stepping into this antique shop is like finding yourself at a carnival of curiousities.  Not only do they carry a range of antique furniture and furnishings, this store also has an eclectic array of items ranging from antique toys to antique leather pilot hats (you know, the kind Amelia Earhart wore).  What you'll find here is almost certainly unpredictable, and much of it is pricey, but you are also likely to stumble upon a whacky something for a special someone who has been needing an old fashioned doll or an antique yo-yo for example.  If you are a fan of the quirky and the eccentric, this is a great place to make a stop.
