ICE CREAM SAMMIES
Like the transformation of Smeagol to Golem in the presence of The Ring, introducing a box of these crunchy chewy creamy sandwiches to my friends rapidly reduced us all to drooling weirdos, hunched around the box exclaiming OH MY GOD OH MY GOD and MY PRECIOUS!

My girlfriend and I were hankering for a late-night dessert on our last night in Toronto, so we checked on Yelp what might be open at 11 PM and made our way over to Bakerbots despite some trouble with our car's headlights (annoying people by only having working brights is worth it to satisfy a sugar craving). It's a small but cute little shop that has one table inside and a couple of benches that you can sit on to enjoy your dessert. Unfortunately a few of the flavors were gone, but they still did have ginger cookies and cinnamon ice cream handy - always a good pairing. The ginger cookies weren't overly ginger-y (like ginger snaps can be), and the cookie was still soft despite the late hour. Paired with pitch-perfect cinnamon ice cream, we had ourselves a perfectly done ice cream sandwich. At $5.50, it's a pretty reasonable price for the quality. We also took a slice of banana bread with chocolate chips to go. I wouldn't say it's as delicious as the ice cream sandwich, but it was nice to eat banana bread that would have pockets of chocolate appear in your mouth. I have no idea if $1.50 is the fair price for this - the guy at the register had no clue either, which probably isn't the greatest thing in the world.
All in all, this is a delightful little shop that makes some really good sweets. I'd love to try some of their cakes and macaroons next time I'm back, but the initial indication from what we had is that it's a winner for sure. -

Well, it's official. The adage "as American as apple pie" will now be changed to "as Canadian as apple pie." All thanks to Bakerbots. This place does not mess around with pie. The slices are extremely generous, the crust is so flakey and buttery it makes my mouth drop open out of surprise and anticipation. The apples are perfectly cut and seasoned. As for the pumpkin pie, that was creamy and light, too. I wanted more spice in it, though.
There's a little dude who sometimes works at this place - probably around 10-12 years old? This guy can make the meanest ice cream sandwich. My partner and I got a half of one and split that, which was really more than enough. It looked like a delicious fried taco filled to the brim with awesome. We opted for the ginger cookie (thin but chewy! perfectly spiced!) with Burnt Marshmallow ice cream (not too sweet with little kicks of caramel when you need them most). Some of the best ice cream, by the way, I've had.
( Sigh. This review will a testament of my gluttony. )
So, pie. And ice cream sandwiches. We also got (on the same visit, yup) two red velvet cupcakes and French macaroons.
The cupcakes were amazing. Great ratio of frosting (cream cheese heaven! a little tart with sweet - yes please) and cupcake (thick and airy at the same time - flavorful - no aftertaste of food dye, they use very little).
Macaroons? My favorite was by far the Lemon out of the three I tasted. The vanilla one tasted a bit too much like two sugar cookies with vanilla creme in the center. I was most excited by the earl grey but found the way it was coupled with chocolate to be questionable. All in all, not sure if these warrant the $2 each price.
Love the intimacy and charm of this place. Contemporary but welcoming. Mellow people working there (who I can only assume are also the proprietors by their general presence).
Overall. Lovely lovely. -

1 x ginger molasses cookie with cinnamon ice cream
1 x captain peanut cookie with deep dark chocolate ice cream
Total = about $8
Bakerbots is a super cute shop. I was looking for a pre-dinner dessert (as on hot days out I am wont to do), and they did not disappoint.
Those with a penchant for having eyes bigger than their stomach are well advised to go with the half ice cream sandwich, which is about 1.5 inches of rich, real cream, real egg ice cream squished between two halves of a big sugar cookie like an Arctic seal in a Medivac. Those with stretchy pants on may consider the full ice cream sandwich.
It comes in delicious DIY combinations. My ginger molasses cookie paired well with the cinnamon ice cream, albeit I would have preferred a spicier ice cream and a less sweet cookie. The ice cream did have a touch of black pepper, however, which was an inspired addition.
I just learned the ice cream isn't made at Bakerbots though (although it is from another local supplier), so I give this place 4/5 plus a strong B-bot stance. -

This place is good, the portions are massive and different from other dessert places. They have creative dessert ideas. Keep in mind during mid week they are only open until 10 pm. Prices are reasonable too

3.80 My first visit to Bakerbots was epically meh, but the second visit proved to be an incremental improvement and the service this time around seemed less monotone, and actually really nice!
Again, I was too late for any macaron action, but I got some darling cupcakes and what these cupcakes lack in size they certainly make up for in flavour!! Let's just say hubby got full frontal on his Oreo cupcake and I definitely got down and dirty on my double chocolate cupcake...damn! nice moist choclatey cakeyness with an amazingly decadent ganache frosting. It's soooo good, that I feel like Barry White music should be playing in the backround when I devour it. Mmmmmm can't get enough of this cupcake love, baby!Listed in: La Dolce Vita

Holy ice cream sandwich Batman!
For about $5 you get a gigantic slab of ice cream between two large cookies. I dare you to get your lips around this without squishing it down a little.
I went with the mint ice cream and double chocolate chip cookies at the suggestion of the staff. Good choice! The ice cream comes from Ed's so you know it's good and the cookies are baked fresh in-house.
My only complaint is that I would have liked the cookie to be a little more chewy. The cookie was a little crumbly which made it a little bit harder to eat.
I need to make a trip back here to try the delicious looking cakes and cupcakes they had on display.

An absolutely phenomenal little neighbourhood bakery. Everything looks and tastes absolutely amazing. I'm typically extremely critical of bakeries and still Bakerbots is one of the few that managed to meet and exceed my expectations.
The big draw at Bakerbots are the ice cream sandwiches. You choose from a delicious selection of chewy cookies--chocolate, blueberry, ginger, peanut butter and blueberry when I was there--and they load it up with ice cream from one of Toronto's best ice cream shops: Ed's Real Scoop. They even let you choose multiple flavours of ice cream for your sandwich. These things are huge so I recommend getting a half sandwich ($3.50).
While the ice cream sandwiches are phenomenal, the pie was the real gem here. First, let me note that I consider myself a serious pie connoisseur. Some may sing the praises of the likes of The Pie Shack or Wanda's, but these people simple don't know a thing about good pie. Until recently I just accepted the fact that Toronto pie meant mediocre pie. Thankfully this is no longer the case.
The slice of peach pie I had at Bakerbots' blew me away. Both the crust and the filling were absolutely flawless. Easily the best store made pie I've ever had and I've had a hell of a lot! -

After trying a half ice-cream sandwich (birthday party cookie and sweet cream ice cream) we've already planned out at least two more trips to Bakerbots - one to try a different flavour combo and one to get this combo again.
I don't envy their terrible real estate (a tiny storefront barely visible from Bloor and easy to walk past even for patrons of Ossington Station's unmanned back entrance). But do yourself a favour and seek them out. -

Bakerbots is like that cute, little Parisian-esque bakery that you never knew about walking by. And the best part (or worst part depending on how big your thighs are) is that they are right beside Ossington subway station. The bakery now sells its goodies to the public. This is the perfect girlfriend date or the perfect gift for your significant other as a "just because." Trust she will be tickled pink if you get her macarons out of the blue! #LoveAdvice It is tiny though, so limited seating. But if you live in the area, I must say I'm jealous.
WE ATE
Macarons! So many flavours, so little time. Honestly, they're all good. We just picked an assortment and were happy. Bakerbots specializes in macarons and cakes, but we were really happy with their ICE CREAM COOKIE SANDWICHES (not on the online menu). The ice cream was Ed's Real Scoop and nestled in between an oatmeal raisin cookie, I had a very happy moment eating it. Seriously, one of the best desserts in TO. NOM!

After supper one night, a buddy and I ran out to the convenience store on Delaware for some ice cream, when I remembered just across the street beside Sardinha and Bloorcourt Cafe was a brand new little bakery.
I'd wanted to try the ice cream for some time, but I just happened to be in my pajama bottoms and thought I'd be ridiculed as per the note below about pretentious staff. But it was one of those nights where I was doing instead of thinking.
So we crossed the street and made haste to the ice cream shoppe that will be a new destination for my neighbourhood from here on out. Bakerybots did not laugh or seem overly snooty as I walked in with blue checkered pants and a Raptors jersey. No, as a matter of fact I walked right up and asked, what would you recommend and the marshmallow ice cream was served up sandwiched between a peanut butter cookie!
Not only that, he charged us less because it was our first time there!
We went on charming little wood chairs outside the store and dove into the ice cream sandwiches - which were heaven. EFFING HEAVEN PEOPLE! Like, Angels dancing the waltz on your tongue awesome! Best ice cream I've ever had!
Needless to say I'll be heading back to Bakerybots Baking very soon!
The moral of this story, be awesome and awesome things happen in return. EFFING HEAVEN PEOPLE! -

After nearly a year's worth of eyeball teasing as I walked to and from the Delaware entrance of Ossington Station, this catering bakery is finally open to the public, but only on weekends.
I picked up a few macarons on my way to dinner with a friend. They are large, made a great dessert gift and the flavour was intense. These cookies will set you back $1.75 each which was a little shocking for me, as I'm not a macaron enthusiast* but maybe this is par for the course. They were certainly some of the best of this particular dessert item I've tasted. They had some unusual flavours too like earl grey and chocolate, orange sherbert, and caramel fleur de sel.
I was informed by the owner that they have icecream sandwiches made from their cookies and Ed's icecream in many combinations that I'm sure will be an easy hit this summer.
They also carry some Sweets from the Earth items but sadly don't make any of their own creations vegan or gluten-free.
The show stopper at this bakery is their cakes. These brightly coloured, marzipan creations look like they were drawn by a cartoon illustrator.
Next on the menu for me is a cupcake. Is it Saturday yet?
*Let's get real here. This macaron thing is a dessert fad and Toronto is your weird cousin who your parents force you to hang with and he was slow to catch on to this trend. Jump the shark already macarons! You're no canelé. -

I was killing a few minutes waiting for my roommate to pick up dinner at Sardinha and stumbled on this cute little bakery that I couldn't resist checking out.
Their sign exclaimed "Ice-Cream Sandwiches" and the decor inside begged to be observed. Cute! I only had a $5-er and dinner was on the way, so I snagged 2 chocolate cupcakes with cream-cheese icing for dessert. They were busy baking in the back, acting primarily as a catering service.
Only open Friday night and on weekends. -

Chewy, warm, delicious, freshly-baked cookies. Mmmm! The chocolate cookie with a sprinkling of sea salt on top is amazing... you'll be thinking about it days later, then trying to go get more of them and finding Bakerbots keeps 'strange', mostly evening, hours. (Whaddya mean they're not open at all hours to satisfy my cookie cravings?!) Their ice cream sandwiches are also delicious but even the half portion sandwich, made with your choice of freshly-baked cookie and ice cream flavour, is almost too-much-of-a-good-thing. Almost.

Very yummy macaroons. Not as chewy as La bamboche so depending on your preferences, you might like one over the other. I definitely like this one more, and it's closer for me! The lady said this batch came out smaller than usual, so she gave me a discount, which was nice. Wish macaroons was less expensive though cuz they're so tiny and you can't eat just one!

Bakerbots is a hidden treasure, and it's now one of my fave places in Toronto. The ice cream sandwiches are soooo awesome. Nothing better to make you feel like a kid again. Go get one before the summer is done! I've also had cookies and macaroons here, both were perfect in flavour and texture. Long live Bakerbots!

The ice cream sandwiches are AMAZING. I tried the chocolate cookie (complete with a sprinkling of fleur de sel) with french mint ice cream. A half was the perfect amount of salty, chocolatey, minty deliciousness. I'll be back to try the ginger cookie with guiness ice cream next. Or maybe the blueberry cookie with sweet cream ice cream...

This place is glorious. I have stuck primarily with the ice-cream sandwiches, and they are amazing. The macarons, cupcakes and cakes are all beautiful, and the staff are super-nice as well. We only wish they were open more--Bakerbots rules!
