I give this place a 3 but there are some caveats....I don't have a huge sweet tooth but when it comes to birthday cakes and the odd sweet craving, this is my go-to place. They have the best cheesecakes here...ultra creamy and just plain ol' yummy I love their oreo cheesecake and the strawberry cheesecake. If you like chocolate, the "crazy chocolate cake" is delicious without being overly decadent as some chocolate cakes can be - it's covered in a dark chocolate ganache, and has 3 layers - chocolate cake, chocolate cheesecake in the middle and then another layer of chocolate cake. I also like the tia maria which is just layers of chocolate chip cookies soaked in tia maria layered with whipped cream.

It's either cash or debit only, this place has never accepted credit card so beware! It's ridiculously busy on the weekends as crowds pack into this place for take out and dine in. I wish they had more than one poor girl working behind the glass case.

Service can be a bit slow and inefficient due to lack of staffing coinciding with a rush. It kind of annoyed me when I was waiting for take out the other night and was waiting there patiently to order a slice to-go when 4 servers were gossiping on the side (in view) while one girl was working feverishly as the take out line grew. And I was not pleased when I opened up my take out box to see the smallest slice of crazy chocolate cake ever! They are usually pretty good about given a fair size especially since the slice came to $8.41 tax included. But I was very disappointed with the puny slice I got! The upside is that I saved on the calories...LOL.

Savoury foods are decent here as it leans towards diner style food like burgers and chili fries. I like their chili fries and they serve some good mochas and hot chocolates here as well.

Nice place to gather with a bunch of friends and pack on the fat and sugar as it provides for a lively atmosphere. But the chairs are really uncomfortable and the service is hit and miss due to insufficient resources.

I have been coming here since I was a young girl living in Winnipeg.  Now it is on my "must do" list when I visit.  My family eats in, takes out and has even had Baked Ex cater desserts at a wedding.

My favourite cakes are the Cinnamon Torte (I am tempted to have my friends fed ex me one right now!!!) and the Apple Bavarian cheesecake.  The drinks are excellent as well.  I also really enjoy the veggie sandwich.  The prices seem reasonable to me for the portions that one receives.

The funky, cheerful decor is always a treat to walk into and the people watching is usually fun as well.  I have had a great time with groups or just reading a magazine and taking a refreshment break by myself.  If I had Baked Expectations in my city, I would visit regularly!

One caveat is that the only bathroom is located downstairs so it is not convenient for disabled or elderly who find stairs difficult.

This used to be my hangout place for Friday nights, as sort of an end of night excursion. It's great that they're open so late I think that's perfect for people who want to go do something and then need a decent place to go for food or dessert after (someplace that isn't MacDonalds)

The food is great, i love their burger and fries and you get so much! but their dessert is so expensive. I mean... 8-9$ for one piece of cake is extreme no matter how good it is and yet people (myself included) still pay when they're there, so I guess if you can... why not. I don't like that there's a customer minimum price because if I come with a table of people who are ordering eight dollar pieces of cake and I only get a $3.00 iced coffee I think that should be acceptable and really who is going to go to a place like this to not eat and or drink anything? Does it happen so much that they had to enforce a minimum?

Since you seat yourself it can be hard to get the attention of the staff because half the time it's so busy they probably don't even notice a new table of people, or realise that they haven't greeted them yet. I'm not super uptight about it so it doesn't bother me since I'm there to relax and talk anyway I'm never in any sort of rush.

Over all I would say it's good. Good eats and drinks but way overpriced and the service isn't great.

I had the most amazing cheesecake I've ever tried here. It kicked the ass of the cheesecake in Vancouver at Trees Organic Cafe where it's voted best in the city.

I just went with the Strawberry, and holy freaking crap. HOW IS THE CRUST SO GOOD? The filling was great too! Perfect, actually. The strawberries were nice and sweet with a drizzle.

I also tried a big bite of the Pumpkin cheesecake. It was delicious, like an ultra creamy pumpkin pie with the perfect amount of spice and topped with pumpkin seeds.

The only downside for me was the price. A little much just for a slice of cheesecake... but it was so good I'd keep paying for it anyways.

I give it two stars mainly the prices are jacked up. I mean 8 bucks for a dinky slice of cheesecake? Delicious but too expensive.

Service wasn't too bad although its pretty loud and it's hard to hear at times.

When plans fall through, what do you do? Have a dessert and wine night at home.

We picked up a few bottles of wine and then headed over to Baked to pick up some cake. The selection that night was pretty good, though there were a few items missing from their display. Still, there was more than enough options that appealed to me.

We decided on the Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake, Crazy Chocolate Cake, Tia Maria Torte and Deadly Chocolate Mousse. Probably more than two people really needed but if you're going to indulge, you might as well really indulge.

Counter service was about average - not slow but they seemed a little disorganized, and four slices of cake came out to about $30, which seems pretty standard. The portions were quite large (at $7 per slice I would expect them to be).

All four cakes were great - the textures & flavours were all lovely and all that chocolate went great with the red wine we had. (Yes, we finished all four slices that night, with a wee bit of help from a third person.)

For take out, Baked worked out perfectly.

Location really does seem to be what keeps this place going. The desserts are pretty solid, but not all that creative or inspired.

Big, though. The carrot cake I ordered ended up being about half the size of a typical serving, which turned out to be more than enough for me. It was one of the better carrot cakes I've had, and the server offered to reduce the charge due to the size. So that was nice. But there was little else available that appealed to me, so I might have just gotten lucky with my choice. The quality of the food itself might not be consistent with my choice, if you look at he other reviews here. Despite the carrot cake, this really seems like the type of place to go if you want quantity.

There are a lot of choices, which is usually a major point of awesome for me, but there were surprisingly few options for fresh, fruity things. It seemed like more of a four-kinds-of-chocolate-cake kind of place. Fruity stuff was either paired with the richest-looking cheesecake I've ever seen, or buried under really unnecessary amounts of whipped cream or other rich sauces. I was hoping for at least one straight-up tart, but this place is all about the most decadent indulgences... whether you like it or not. I kind of resent that I *have* to listen to my arteries clog at full volume to eat here. Does it all have to be turned up to 11?

Also speaking of things forced upon you, the music was really obnoxious and overbearing. I guess that's supposed to make it seem hip, but it didn't really jive with the overall ambiance. Maybe the XM Radio Mega Diva Hits station isn't their usual...?

All in all, the taste of the food seems like the high point, and everything goes mostly downhill from there. And the price makes the experience feel even more disappointing than it really is. Particularly important to keep in mind in light of the other reviews posted so far.

Coming from San Diego, this place deserves one star. I heard rave reviews about the desserts here only to be sorely disappointed.

Let's start with the service. The patrons next to us had been seated long before us and they didn't even have a menu! They complained that they had been waiting for ten minutes. As for my group, we had been waiting for five minutes. Our waitress (when she finally arrived) had to come back three times to repeat our orders because she didn't even write it down.  It took FOOOOREEEEVEEERRRR until we finally got our orders.

The atmosphere was like being in a sardines can; jam packed full of noisy people. If you like that kind of environment, then this place is the place for you. I felt like I was in a bar! I couldn't hear the person that was sitting two feet away from me and that REALLY annoyed me.

The food, surprisingly, tasted delicious. But it doesn't get any points for that because for a tiny portion of spaghetti and meatballs, cost an arm and a leg; $13 for a small plate! That doesn't even include the tax. The food here appears to be comfort food. I have no idea why this place is packed because the gist of this review is that the service sucked, prices are over-the-top, too crowded, noisy and I honestly don't think the wait time was worth the food. Sure, it may have tasted good, but meh...I wouldn't want to come back here ever again.

I am not a fan of this place. It get's 1 star because if I'm going to spend  $10 after tax and tip on a piece of cheesecake it should be amazing and not a tiny, mangled slice thrown onto a plate falling over and tasting like it came from a pre-packaged mix.(Although I'm sure it is homeade).
I have no clue why this place is so busy, I suppose people are just stoked on variety even if it's not good, or maybe it used to be good but they've gotten lazy and they're still relying on an old reputation?
Anyway, if another, better dessert spot opens up in Osbourne I'm sure Baked Expectations would have to step up it's game to stay open.

One of my favorite places for dessert in the city. Sure it's noisy but that's because it's a diner style restaurant not a high end restaurant. As to other reviewers saying that the piece of dessert they receive is too small...I say "what... ? " The pieces are huge...only a glutton would wonder that. This place is still the tops for me.

A popular place for deserts in and around the area. The place itself feels old and needs some updating. It has a prime location but it is far from being a great place to visit. There is a wide selection of deserts and food. Obviously the deserts are recommended. The idea is to go find a table, pick a desert at the counter for it to be served to you. Most of the deserts are good. The service is iffy though. I'd rather pick a place which is smaller and feels a bit cozier...especially if its for desert.

I've been to a TON of cafés in many different cities, and the only thing this place has going for it is its location. Other than that, expect surly staff, bad food presentation, and an overpriced menu.

If you want to make a total pig of yourself, get an order of one of their huge slabs of dessert. They have about 25 different varieties to choose from. Oink...
